8:00 PM PT: A hospital spokesperson tells TMZ, Heather was awake and responsive when she arrived today -- and she is currently responding well to treatment. According to the spokesperson, Heather is doing much better now and doctors are hopeful she will be released tomorrow.

We're also told Heather's parents are currently with the actress inside the hospital.

Heather Locklear was taken to the hospital by ambulance Thursday afternoon after taking a dangerous mix of prescription drugs and alcohol ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We've learned ... Locklear's sister called 911 at 2:05 PM PT fearing Heather was in danger.

The fire department, along with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department responded. Paramedics examined Heather and determined she needed to be hospitalized.

This is not the first time Locklear has had a medical emergency where 911 responded. In 2008, her doctor was concerned she may have overdosed on prescription meds. He called 911 and the operator described the situation as a "suicide attempt." It turned out to be a false alarm.

Locklear recently called off her engagement to Jack Wagner.

Toni Braxton was transported to an L.A. hospital this week after experiencing some painful "flare ups" stemming from her Lupus condition ... but the singer tells us she'll be "totally fine."

Braxton tells TMZ, "I wanted to say thanks to all my fans for their support, as I have been experiencing some flare ups with my Lupus which has me in the hospital for a few days."

She adds, "I wanted to clear the record before rumors started, and will totally be fine as I'm blessed to having an amazing family for support."

Braxton first opened up about her struggle with the disease last year -- and has been very active in raising awareness about the condition.

George Clooney is still a broken man ... but TMZ has learned he'll be heading back to the hospital for ANOTHER elbow operation ... so he can return to banging Stacy Kiebler at full strength.

It was only two months ago that Clooney posed for a photo at the Ravens game in November -- sporting some kind of space-age elbow brace. His rep had told us, he had recently undergone a procedure to fix something in his arm joint.

It's unclear exactly what's wrong -- but it's not better yet ... because last night in NYC, George left the Carlyle Hotel, claiming he still had "a little more surgery" left.

Sounds like fun.

5:20 PM PT: George's rep now tells us the actor was kidding when he said he needed more surgery. Let's hope so. Surgery sucks.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have postponed their upcoming U.S. tour ... over a CRUSHED BONE in Anthony Kiedis's right foot ... the band has announced.

The band released a statement saying, "Anthony recently underwent surgery to remove a crushed sesamoid bone and correct a detached flexor tendon in his foot."

For all you junior medical doctors out there -- the sesamoid bone is connected to Anthony's big toe.

Anthony is expected to make a full recovery -- and the band has posted the new tour dates on their website.

Kiedis has been dealing with foot problems since the famous Stadium Arcadium tour back in 2007 -- recently explaining, "I stayed out on tour with broken bones in my feet from jumping off the bass drum, which is kind of agonising, and it led to me being in a bad state of mind."

Earlier this week, Anthony went to the L.A. Lakers game ... with the help of some crutches ... but seemed to be in good spirits.

Nick Cannon was released from the hospital over the weekend after suffering mild kidney failure just a few days earlier ... this according to his rep.

Cannon's spokesperson says Nick is home resting now and will return to his radio show, "Rollin' with Nick Cannon," on January 17.

He says he's leaning more toward metoidioplasty, which he describes as "a procedure that uses what you already have down there ... which has grown larger from the testosterone. You end up with a smaller phallus than with the phalloplasty, but it's fully functional, it gets erect, and the sensation is all there."

The procedure will cost, he says, somewhere between $25,000-$45,000.

Kiptyn Locke -- a contestant on "The Bachelorette" who jumped to the show "Bachelor Pad" -- just underwent 4 1/2 hours of emergency surgery to repair severely ruptured discs in his neck ... that were perilously compressing against his spine.

Neck injuries are no joke ... but we're told Locke -- who is currently dating former "Bachelor" contestant Tenley Molzahn (left) -- is expected to make a full recovery. It's unclear how Kiptyn injured himself.

Sofia Vergara began 2012 by rushing to the aid of a young woman who collapsed on the floor of a Las Vegas casino ... TMZ has learned.

The "Modern Family" star was leaving Hyde nightclub at the Bellagio around 3 AM on New Year's Day ... when Sofia saw a woman hit the deck.

Sources at the scene tell us ... Sofia and a girlfriend rushed over to the woman to help. We're told Sofia's friend had medical training and was seen checking the woman's pulse.

Both Sofia and her friend tried to keep the woman calm ... and waited by her side until security personnel and paramedics arrived to the scene. We're told the woman was eventually transported to a nearby hospital.

Kobe Bryant isn't talking about his injury and how it affected his performance Sunday night against Denver -- he scored only 16 points -- however we found out he was in such agony, the team doctor gave him an injection in his wrist to numb the pain, but it hardly worked.

Kobe tore a ligament in his right wrist during the first pre-season game against the Clippers. Sources connected to the team tell TMZ ... the pain has been excruciating. Our sources say he's gotten a numbing shot before each game since the injury, and as a result the pain was tolerable during play. But we're told the shot did almost nothing Sunday night, and as one source put it, "It was a miracle that he even played."

Our Lakers sources tell us ... in addition to the numbing shots, Kobe's regimen is now to play with a cast, get physical therapy after each game and wear a flexible cast at all times off the court.

One source put it this way ... "If it was anyone else but Kobe, if they did play they'd come up goose eggs on the scoreboard. It's incredible he's playing at all."

One of the stars of VH1's "Saddle Ranch" claims he got his ass handed to him by a group of thugs Christmas weekend -- and he has a new, nasty black eye to prove it.

SR bull operator Dave Collins tells TMZ, he and a pal were minding their own business on their way out of a bar in Minneapolis Friday night ... when suddenly, out of nowhere, a gang of unidentified males jumped them, and fists started flying.

Collins says he and his buddy were eventually able to get away, but not before taking several shots to the face -- adding, "We fled the scene as quick as possible because we didn't know if the guys had knives or guns ... It was a really scary moment in my life."

So far, no arrests have been made.

Director Baz Luhrmann hit his head on a camera crane while filming "The Great Gatsby" in Sydney and the injury shut down production for the holidays earlier than expected.

Co-producer Anton Monsted told the Sydney Morning Herald, "We were on quite a cramped set and he was ducking under the crane. He struck his head on the weights on the end of the camera crane. He split open his head and we had to get the doctor."

Luhrmann required three stitches and the producers decide to send everyone home for the holidays a day early.

George Michael just showed his face for the first time since being rushed to a Vienna hospital last month with a serious case of pneumonia -- telling reporters, the illness nearly killed him.

George spoke to reporters outside his London home this morning -- claiming, doctors spent "three weeks basically keeping me alive ... It was by far, the worst month of my life."

George choked up, insinuating he had been in a coma during his time in the ICU -- "I spent the last ten days since I woke up literally thanking people for saving my life."

Sources close to the actor tell us, he's currently undergoing surgery to treat the fracture -- and fix whatever else he messed up. Needless to say, he'll be out of commission for a few months.

Joe Jonas checked into an emergency room in L.A. while doctors inspected his abs -- for severe stomach pains -- 48 hours after Joe did some late night partying in Chicago.

A rep for Joe confirms he went to the emergency room at Children's Hospital L.A. on Sunday. We're told Joe was only at the hospital briefly ... and it's not clear what was wrong with him.

One potential hint -- on Friday night (into Saturday morning) Joe was out at a Chicago hot spot Board Room Nightclub (above) partying ... and performed the next night in Chi-Town.

Etta James -- famous for her incredible rendition of "At Last" -- is "terminally ill" ... so says her live-in doctor ... who is now asking fans to pray for the 73-year-old singer.

According to the doctor, Etta's chronic leukemia was declared incurable two weeks ago.
