Gavin Newsom says the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating him, his wife, and other family members ... and he claims the effort is politically motivated.
In a video posted online Monday, the California governor said federal agents have recently contacted family members, friends, and former employees and sought records as part of what he described as an attempt to find wrongdoing.
Newsom alleged President Donald Trump is behind the effort, arguing he is being targeted because he is considering a run for president after leaving office when his term ends in January 2027.

A tarp still covers the lettering on the front of the structure, but it should read "The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts" again.
6/13 -- 4:15 AM PT -- The original deadline to remove Donald Trump's name from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. has passed ... but on early Saturday, workers officially began dismantling the highly-debated letters.
But, as you can see ... the crew hung a massive white tarp from the building, so it's unclear how much progress has been made.
The court-ordered deadline was Friday, but the Kennedy Center asked a judge to extend the deadline until noon ET Saturday, citing thunderstorms causing a delay, AP reported. The work is expected to wrap up Saturday morning.
