The singer and beau gave The Sun an update on their relationship Sunday ... and, the conversation turned to all things engagement -- including the right and wrong time to pop the question.

In the clip, Hughes says he's against getting engaged on an obvious milestone day like Christmas for example ... claiming it takes away the surprise from the proposal.

Dianne Holechek -- Chuck Norris' high school sweetheart to whom he was married for several decades -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

We spoke with Dianne and Chuck's son, Mike Norris, who tells TMZ ... Dianne passed away peacefully at her home in Texas after a long battle with dementia.

Mike says, "We are thankful she is no longer suffering. She was the best, the greatest mom. We were so lucky to have her."

Elsie Hewitt's got an instant connection with her baby girl ... singing the little one's praises in a social media post Saturday.

Zeidler passed away from cancer on Friday, the actor confirmed to People ... and, her online obituary states she passed away at a hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky surrounded by loved ones.

In a statement to People, Clooney said, "My sister, Ada, was my hero. She faced down cancer with courage and humor. I’ve never met anyone so brave. Amal and I will miss her terribly."
