Tomcat Fighter Jet -- Final Take Off

Published | Updated

The famous Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter jet took its last flight over the weekend in Virginia Beach, VA. The plane, made famous by Tom Cruise who flew them in the movie "Top Gun," made a final taxi down the runway at Oceana Naval Air Station.

The ceremonial flight was attended by 3,000 guests and given a final farewell by aviators, mechanics, and guests. The jet joined the Navy fleet in 1972 and was used to defend U.S. aircraft carriers from Soviet bombers.

Interesingly, the F-14 is now a household name because of the hugely successful movie, but the flying antics by Maverick (Tom Cruise), and his rival Iceman (Val Kilmer) is what put the Tomcat into Hollywood history. Recently, the plane has used as a pet name for Tom and his fiancée Katie Holmes -- TomKat.

A Navy spokesperson tells TMZ that after the movie came out in 1986 there was a spike in Navy recruiting, and the Navy still gets calls about becoming a pilot after the movie airs on television.

Happy Birthday Tom's Mom

Published | Updated

Say what you will about Tom Cruise, the guy takes time out for his mama.

TomKat, with Tom's kids Isabella and Connor in tow, took Tom's mom to dinner in Las Vegas for her 70th birthday. The family enjoyed a nice relaxing meal outside on the patio of exclusive restaurant SW inside the Wynn Hotel and Casino.

In fact, the dinner was so relaxing TomKat seemed to be a bit bored. Then again, who among us hasn't been bored hanging with our parents when there are millions of dollars to be won just a few feet away in the casino!

Remember Ring: Saving Your Marriage

Published

With the impending nuptials of TomKat on the horizon, we found the perfect gift for Katie to give her husband to be -- the Remember Ring.

The men's ring uses a so-called "hot spot" engraved with your anniversary date. The spot, inside the ring, warms up to 120 F for ten seconds every hour on the hour beginning 24 hours before the big day to serve as a gentle reminder.

The ring's website states that it is "Hot enough to cause discomfort but not hot enough to burn, the Remember Ring is impossible to ignore!" It's comforting to know that you won't be spending your special day with a blister, just a happy wife.

The Remember Ring is completely maintenance free and is powered by the heat of your hand (and we think that's just cool). Simply specify the date when you order the ring and you're good to go.

Alec Baldwin -- "Leave Tom Alone"

Published | Updated

Alec Baldwin graces the October issue of GQ, and gives the men's mag a fairly juicy interview, including his views on Tom Cruise and his controversial religion Scientology.

He gives Tom props, saying "No one has played by the rules better, for longer, than Tom. As for Scientology, Alec says "All I know is I don't see people who are disciples of Tom's faith driving planes into the World Trade Center. When Scientologists start crashing planes into the Pentagon, then I think we should sit Tom down and have a grand jury talk to him. In the meantime, let's just leave him alone."

The entire interview is in October's issue of GQ, on stands today.

Tom and Katie Get Their Kicks

Published | Updated

Is Katie Holmes a soccer mom? She sure looked the part, sitting with Tom Cruise on the sidelines watching Tom's daughter Isabella's match.
As the couple walked across the field, Tom gave a warm, one-arm hug to the daughter he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

Good feelings were all around as Katie and Tom withstood their usual mob of cameras. They smiled and said thank you, even while being pelted by questions such as "When's the big wedding?"

We sure wish they'd answer- that's going to be some party.

Are You Ready For Some TomKat?

Published | Updated

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' magical public-relations tour continued with a pretty unmissable appearance on the first night of Monday Night Football at the Washington Redskins - Minnesota Vikings game.

The actor, accompanied by Katie Holmes, was spotted by cameras (not infrequently) hanging out in new benefactor Daniel Snyder's box at FedEx Field (Snyder owns the Redskins), as well as backslapping it up with "Collateral" co-star Jamie Foxx before the game. (Foxx, for his part, spent some time in the booth with the shiny new ESPN broadcast team.)

The scene was oddly reminiscent of 1996's "Jerry Maguire," in which Cruise plays a sports agent and watches his client Cuba Gooding, Jr. on-the-field and from the skyboxes. Cruise, an avowed fan of many sports, appeared to be following last night's game with that look of studied attention that only Tom Cruise can muster.

Restaurant Staff Comes to TomKat's Rescue

Published | Updated

Tom Cruise's dinner date with baby mama Katie Holmes had all the elements of a big screen action film -- romance, thrills and even a dramatic escape.

After the paparazzi spotted the couple quietly dining at Il Ristorante di Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica Saturday night, chaos quickly ensued. The photogs were locked and loaded outside the restaurant waiting for the famous couple to exit, when an army of restaurant employees came to the rescue by holding up their aprons and obstructing the cameras as best they could.

Even Giorgio Baldi himself stepped in, jumping in front of the lenses of the lingering photographers.

Guess Tom left one heck of a tip!

Suri Cruise -- Internet Star

Published | Updated

The hottest pictures on the web aren't of Lindsay Lohan's firecrotch -- they're of TomKat's love child.

The long-awaited pics of Suri Cruise in Vanity Fair hit New York and Los Angeles newsstands last Wednesday. While the issue comes out nationally this Tuesday, restless fans in the rest of the country have been swarming vanityfair.com to get a glimpse of the TomKat love child.

Suri's first pics, and the mystery leading up to them, helped the site reach 4.3 million page views on Wednesday. This more than tripled the site's last record when the Hollywood issue debuted back in February. By comparison, on the average Suri-free day, vanityfair.com receives just 60,000 page views.

Another benefit of the much-anticipated pictures was that 4,000 people subscribed to Vanity Fair -- the magazine's largest one-day total.

Now that we know she really does exist, it looks like Suri is giving Cindy Margolis a run for her 'most downloaded' money!

Tom, Katie, Rosie in Attack Mode

Published | Updated

If you think that the slew of recent public appearances by Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are just a coincidence, think again: Sources tell TMZ that this week is just the beginning of a carefully crafted, all-out image-remaking offensive that the couple has launched, culminating in a long-delayed wedding. But powerful Hollywood bigwigs tell TMZ it's not going to work with them.

The TomKat PR machine has been in fullest attack mode all week, and the latest charge came when Katie and Tom did lunch with the mothers TomKat for the second time this week at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The supposedly feuding families looked notably chummy and happy for the photographers. And in just one week, the couple have managed to use the top-rated newscast and late-night show as well as the most visible hotel and restaurant in Hollywood to attempt a complete image overhaul, not to mention a 22-page spread in Vanity Fair.

But TMZ is told that Cruise has mouthed off to various Hollywood bigwigs at various venues, including dinners at restaurants, about the evils of certain drugs, knowing that family members of these bigwigs are taking them. They are outraged, and don't believe the new, softer side of Tom for a minute.

Tom's Power Lunch with the Holmes Ladies

Published | Updated

Just one day after the world finally saw Suri Cruise, Tom and Katie decided it was time to see Suri's grandmother.

Tom, Katie and Katie's mom were spotted having lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Wednesday, sans Suri of course. The lunch may help to quash rumors that Katie's parents are unhappy with her relationship with Tom.

Hopefully they discussed plans for the upcoming wedding because we all know how much moms love weddings.

Stars (Jokingly) Question Suri's Paternity

Published | Updated

With the photos of Suri Cruise hitting newsstands yesterday in the new issue of Vanity Fair, speculation over the baby's paternity continues to swirl.

TMZ has already stated the baby appears to have Asian features -- something comedian Carlos Mencia mirrored last night. "Tom is not the father. Jet Li had the baby with Katie. Katie and Jet Li had a baby. Or maybe it's really the alien baby, I don't know ... I'm just saying, if my baby came out like that my father would be like, 'Hey you better get a test.'"

Actor/comedian George Lopez also jokingly chimed in on the Suri mystery, also unsure who the baby-daddy is. "Not their child. I'll wait for the test to come in but it's a beautiful baby. Not theirs. I'm a Latino so we always struggle with which kids are ours."

Not everyone is as skeptical though, "It looks like both of its parents. Hello?? They are both gorgeous so the baby is incredibly beautiful," said "Desperate Housewives" actress Andrea Bowen.

TomKat Publicity Tour Tour Rages On

Published | Updated

Since Tom Cruise's very public firing by Viacom head Sumner Redstone (which owns Paramount Pictures), he and Katie Holmes have put the PR machine into overdrive. TomKat have made getting back in the media's good graces and shedding their bizarre personas their mission impossible.

First, Tom makes a house call to Brooke Shields and apologizes for attacking her in the press last year for her use of antidepressants. Although Cruise still feels the same about the evils of prescription pills, his "heartfelt apology" is the first step in healing his career.

Next, Tom's paramour, Katie, er, Kate Holmes, tries to prove all is well in Cruise-dom by shopping and dining at trendy LA restaurant The Ivy on Tuesday with Katie's and Tom's mothers in tow. Coincidence? Not on your life! Everyone in the business knows going to The Ivy is the Hollywood equivalent of a Sears portrait studio.

Finally, the ever-elusive Suri Cruise surfaces.

Tuesday night, the "CBS Evening News" debuted the first image of the happy family on the cover of the new issue of Vanity Fair, which put to rest months of questions, rumors and conspiracy theories regarding the TomKitten's whereabouts.

While no one can predict what Tom's next highly calculated move will be, at this rate it won't be long before Matt Lauer receives a Cruise call.

Suri Cruise Asian Baby?

Published | Updated

The first pictures of Suri appeared in Vanity Fair magazine today, and on the CBS Evening News last night, and our initial analysis of the long-awaited pictures has led us, and more than a few casual and professional observers, to the same conclusion -- that somewhere in the gene pool of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, some Asian influence has crept in. (As Jossip cheekily posits, "In six years, Vanity Fair will have the story about why Suri has Lucy Liu's eyes." And Gawker posted an Asiatic-looking parody shot of the baby that subsequently spread around the Internet and prompted a disclaimer.)

The delicate, almond-shaped eyes, the milky, pale-ish skin tone, the striking mane of dark, dark hair -- these are the characteristics that have pointed us down this line of inquiry. (It should be noted that, yes, babies tend to look fairly like one another at this early stage, but still.) As far as we can determine, there isn't any Asian blood in either Tom or Katie's family, but that doesn't mean some Far Eastern seed hasn't seeped in somewhere along the way.

Of course, if her parents were really Asian at all, they'd probably have taken into consideration that Suri means "pickpocket" in Japanese and something very close to "renovation" in Korean. That wouldn't be such an auspicious beginning.

B-List Baby Pics -- Who's Cashing In?

Published | Updated

When A-List stars have A-list babies, paparazzi and tabloids are willing to do whatever it takes to get the pics, even if it means spending millions of dollars. When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie welcomed baby Shiloh into the world, the first pics were bought by People magazine for reportedly $4.1 million. Baby Suri Cruise's pics are estimated to go for a similar price ... if she really exists.

But what about B-List babies? What price range do they fall into? According to one of TMZ's sources, "Not that much." We're talking less than $5000!!
