Roy Hibbert

I'm Becoming a Gaming Legend

... Thanks to Indiana

12/18/2014 8:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

121714_roy_hibbert_launchNBA star Roy Hibbert possesses a specific set of skills -- beyond hooping, that is -- and pretty soon he might be unbeatable ... as long as he keeps playing in Indiana.

The Pacers stud was outside Craig's in West Hollywood when we asked ... what's a city kid like himself do for fun in the heartland? Roy doesn't hesitate -- telling us there's not much to do except get super sharp at a particular video game. As he puts it ... his game is "pretty nice!"

Roy also gets a little nostalgic in this clip about his ex-teammate Lance Stephenson -- who bolted for the Hornets.

But this clip is really just a heads-up to all you gamers ... look out for Roy on the battlefield!

I'm Down to Rap with Kevin Durant

... But He Better Be Good

12/16/2014 11:45 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Fabolous Kevin Durant Rapping
Fabolous has his eyes (and ears) on NBA superstar Kevin Durant -- not for courtside seats -- but to record a song because he thinks KD could be the Crockett to his Hip Hop Tubbs.

F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S was out in NYC when our photog asked him to pick a rhyming partner from the crop of athletes trying to spit lyrics right now.

Watch the video -- Fab doesn't hesitate to shout out Kevin, but he does seem to have some doubts about his pedigree on the mic.

Here you go Fab ... we did the research for you.

Donald Sterling

It's Scary Being Santa in Tha Hood

Backs Out of Toy Drive

12/15/2014 2:45 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Donald Sterling pulled out of a charity toy drive in Watts Saturday night ... because his security team feared for his safety in the hood with racial tensions running so high across the country.

TMZ Sports broke the story -- Sterling was scheduled to show up for something called the Chrismukkah Soiree "Party in the Projects." But a rep for the ex-owner of the Clippers tells us he abruptly canceled after we posted the story.

Apparently, Sterling wanted his appearance to be a surprise. We're told his security team was worried too many people knew where he was going to be -- and considering his track record with the black community ... things could go south quickly.

Donald's rep says he still donated a sedan-full of toys during a Friday night event held in a much more ... Sterling-safe environment -- Beverly Hills.

L.A. City Councilman Joe Buscaino -- who reps Watts -- probably didn't help matters by coming on TMZ Live, and demanding Sterling stay away ... unless he's ready to donate much more than toys.

Matt Barnes

NBA Is the Grinch ...

That Stole My Kids' Christmas!

12/15/2014 7:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

121514_matt_barnes_launchMatt Barnes' kids are getting socks and underwear for Christmas this year ... and the Los Angeles Clippers baller says they can blame the NBA for it.

Barnes was still fuming Sunday night over his fine from the league this week ... $25,000 for kicking a water bottle (the league says it's also for cursing at a fan).

The swingman explained why he thinks the league came down so hard on him -- and told us how he was planning to spend that dough.

We hope he's exaggerating -- Barnes is making more than $3 mil this year ... so he better not cheap out on his kids!

Doc Rivers

It's Time To Clean House ...

And Grab A Cool Million

12/13/2014 12:15 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Doc Rivers Home
Clippers' skipper Doc Rivers would prefer a NBA Championship but he'll settle for a boatload of cash ... he just scored an easy million after unloading his L.A. condo a year after buying.

Rivers picked up the swanky Beverly West pad for just over $5.5M last year and 15 months later ... he passed it off for $6.5M.

He could go coast to coast in these sprawling digs -- it's 3,813 sq ft. with access to a salt water pool, and fitness center, and throw in 2 parking spots ... for the 3-point play!

Rivers opted out for an upgrade ... he put the cash toward his new $8.2M perch, up in the bird streets of the Hollywood Hills.

Coach just keeps on winning.

Charmin Toilet Paper

For T.P. Rant At Lakers Practice

12/12/2014 6:21 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The people at Charmin toilet paper are SOAKING UP all the publicity from the Kobe Bryant meltdown yesterday --THANKING the Lakers star for saying the Lakers are "as soft as Charmin."

As we previously reported, Bryant blasted his teammates during practice Thursday -- calling them out for sucking it up this season ... saying, "Now I see why we've lost so many games. We're soft like Charmin!"

Well, Charmin heard the comments loud and clear -- and responded on Twitter ... saying, "You know, in terms of toilet paper, saying you're as soft as Charmin is a good thing. In basketball? Not so much."

The T.P. titans went on to thank Kobe for the publicity and explained why yesterday was a great day for the brand.

Charmin -- they're on a roll.

Lakers Player

'He's Just Trying to Motivate Us'

12/11/2014 3:21 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

1211-kobe-bryant-getty-01There will be no Kobe Bryant mutiny on the L.A. Lakers -- so says a Lakers player who tells TMZ Sports the squad is NOT MAD at The Mamba for tearing 'em a new butthole at practice today.

In case you haven't heard, Bryant went NUCLEAR -- cussing out several players and even talking trash to G.M. Mitch Kupchak

At one point, Bryant said, "Now I see why we've lost so many games. We're soft like Charmin!"

But one of the players on the team -- who spoke with us on the condition of anonymity -- said, "It's all in love. Kobe is trying to motivate us to become more hungry."

The player adds, "We are all good ... just gotta get better."

As for Kobe and Nick Young, who went at it on the court today as well, we're told ... "Swaggy and Kobe are good. Just two competitors competing. They always talk mess ... it's a part of the game."

Floyd Mayweather

Continues to Grieve ...

In Courtside Lakers Seats

12/10/2014 6:38 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
Exclusive Details

1210-floyd-mayweather-lakers-gettyFor the second night in a row, Floyd Mayweather decided to deal with the murder/suicide involving his friend Earl Hayes by sitting courtside at a NBA game.

Floyd -- along with model Liza Hernandez -- went to Staples Center and sat on the hardwood to watch the Lakers take on the Sacramento Kings ... laughing and smiling as if nothing was wrong.

Shocking ... considering Mayweather witnessed the horrific incident on FaceTime -- and you'd think a public place like a NBA game would be the last place he'd want to be.

As we previously reported, cops want to speak with Mayweather about the incident. We're told police have reached out to Floyd's people ... but they've been "less than willing" to cooperate.

Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant walked on to the court last night with a shirt that read "I Can't Breathe" ... as a tribute to Eric Garner.

NBA Star John Wall

Emotional Tribute to 6-Year-Old

... Who Lost Cancer Battle

12/9/2014 7:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Washington Wizards star John Wall fought back tears last night ... after dedicating his performance to his 6-year-old friend Miyah Telemaque-Nelson who died of cancer Monday morning.

"This is an emotional game for me," Wall said following the win against the Celtics ... "This is for Miyah of my close friends that I lost that I met last year."

1208-casey-phillips-twitterWall and Miyah were pretty tight -- and he helped her meet Nicki Minaj back in March.

"I can't believe this little angel is gone," Minaj wrote Tuesday morning ... "When I met her she was recovering."

"Sending love to her mother and family and John. This is heartbreaking. She was so full of life. #RIPMiyah."

Jay-Z, LeBron & KG

'I Cant Breathe' Protest

Before NBA Game

12/8/2014 5:04 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

1208-jay-z-black-out-nets-twitter-01Jay-Z, LeBron James and Kevin Garnett have followed Derrick Rose's lead ... participating in an "I Can't Breathe" protest on the court before Monday night's Cavs vs. Nets game.

KG -- along with some of his Nets teammates -- wore the "I Can't Breathe" shirt on the floor and posed for a pic with Jay Z who was dressed in black to show his support for Eric Garner.

LeBron and Cavs teammates Kyrie Irving also wore the shirt during their pre-game warmup.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has expressed reservations about player participating in the protest on the court ... saying he respects the players for voicing their personal views "but my preference would be for players to abide by our on-court attire rules."

Justin Timberlake

Grizzlies Good Luck Charm?

12/8/2014 6:59 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

1208_justin_timberlake_and_granny_instagramThe Memphis Grizzlies have a secret weapon.

It's not Marc Gasol. It's not Zach Randolph.

It's Justin Timberlake's grandmother ... the team's best good luck charm.

JT -- a minority owner of the Grizzlies -- brought his grandma to watch his hometown squad take on the Miami Heat ... and guess what? The plan worked. Memphis smashed on D-Wade and company 103-87.

Afterward, Timberlake posted the family pic and wrote, "NBD. Just flexin' real hard at this @memgrizz game with my Granny. She must be good luck... We won by 16. #GoGrizz #GoGranny."

The Grizzlies take on the red hot Mavericks tomorrow -- better get Granny a seat.

LeBron James

... And I Like My Headphones Tiny

12/5/2014 12:33 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Lebron James has a message for guys like Richard Sherman and Colin Kaepernick ... when it comes to the post-game music jam, big is out ... small is in.

James was rockin' his new Beats by Dre "Powerbeats" headphones after the Cavs beat up on the Knicks in NYC last night.

They're tiny. They're wireless ... and it's a huge fashion change from the classic Beats by Dre headphones which are intentionally bulky and have become a fashion staple for tons of athletes.

James is a trendsetter -- so if he goes small ... does it mean the reign of the bulky headphones are over?

NBA Star Kyrie Irving

... Rocks $800 Man Purse

12/5/2014 8:44 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

120514_kyre_irving_launchNBA star Kyrie Irving's getting into the designer man bag game ... rocking an $800 high-end bag on his way to the team bus in Manhattan.

All the big athletes are droppin' big money on man purses these days ... from Colin Kaepernick to DeMarcus Cousins to Floyd Mayweather ... and Anthony Davis

Irving's bag is particularly nice ... MCM's Stark Studded Large Backpack ... which usually between $800 and $900.

Irvin had a sick game last night -- dropping 37 points and hitting a clutch shot at the end of the game.

Remember what Deion Sanders said when it comes to fashion -- "If you look good, you feel good, If you feel good, you play good, If you play good, they pay good."
