Switzer was super candid about his conversation with JJ when he spoke with TMZ Sports -- and praised Jones for putting together a 2016 squad that's the most exciting team he's seen in 20 years.

He also weighs in on the Ezekiel Elliott vs. Emmitt Smith comparison.

I'M NOT A FAN

Dallas Cowboys receiver Cole Beasley wants to make two things clear -- he is NOT a LeBron James fan and was NOT imitating the Cavs superstar with his TD celebration this weekend against the Browns.

Beasley caused a stir with Cleveland fans after his 2nd quarter TD grab on Sunday when his 'saucy feet' dance got confused with LBJ's famous chalk toss pre-game ritual ... leaving fans to assume CB was mocking the Chosen One.

Turns out Beasley was not throwing any shade at the King ... telling 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, "I would never imitate anything LeBron James does."

"He's not my type of guy. I'm a Kobe guy," Beasley says. "He goes to the bucket like he's a running back and wants to cry when someone touches his arm. He's just not my type of guy, man."

BTW ... LBJ is a HUGE Cowboys fan ... but Beasley clearly doesn't care.

Shocking ... if ya remember the viral video from '08. T.O. -- rockin' shades, cried talking about Romo -- dropping the infamous "that's my quarterback" line after Dallas lost a playoff game.

So, when we saw T.O. in Venice Beach Tuesday ... we asked him to weigh in on the hottest debate in the NFL ... who should start as signal caller for the Boys.

T.O.'s obviously in Romo's corner, right? Nope ... he actually says keeping Romo planted on the bench is a "no-brainer" ... and he doesn't stop there.

TMZ Sports spoke with Novacek about the QB controversy ... and the 3x Super Bowl champ says it's best to stick with DP despite a shaky performance against the Eagles Sunday night.

"He hung in there and had the opportunity at the end of the game to make plays and he made plays," Novacek says.

As for the rumors circulating about possibly trading Romo ... Novacek scoffs at the idea.

"I would not get rid of him whatsoever ... I think Tony's that individual that I think he can accept what the situation is."

Just last month, the Super Bowl XII champ and Cowboys Ring of Honor member told us he was standing with Tony Romo because he's the better QB. Plain and simple.

But that was then ... before Dak Prescott led the Cowboys to the top of the NFC East with an impressive 5-1 record ... while only throwing ONE interception.

Pearson says he still respects Romo -- but Dak's the guy.

"As Dak improves and gets more acclimated to the NFL game, that offense -- the sky is the limit."

The Cowboys super fan was leaving Craig's when he raved about Dak racking up ANOTHER victory over the weekend ... leading Dallas to an impressive 4-1 record.

But when we asked about Romo's possible return, Engvall said he loves Tony -- but says it's time for him to start enjoying the $127 MILLION he's made in the NFL so far ... instead of trying to come back.

By the way, Romo reportedly stands to make more than $50 MILLION if he stays in his current contract for the next 3 seasons.

Meanwhile, Dak's making $833k this season ...

Cowboys Legend Drew Pearson I Love Dak Prescott ... But This Is Romo's Team

Published | Updated

Dak Prescott is good ... but Tony Romo is GREAT and Dallas will be even BETTER when he returns to the field ... so says Cowboys legend Drew Pearson.

TMZ Sports spoke to the Super Bowl XII champ who tells us why he doesn't think Romo should/will lose his starting job to the rookie ... despite the fact he's been playing pretty damn well.

"This organization really believes in Tony. What Dak is doing right now, Romo will do even better."

In fact, Pearson says Dak's impressive play is taking a huge weight off Romo's shoulders -- allowing him time to fully heal from his injury so he can return at 100%.

"When he gets back, he’ll get to prove he can perform at the same level or better than before his injury."

"There’s an old saying Coach Landry used ... and it’s that a starter doesn’t lose his job due to injury. When he gets back, he’ll get to prove he can perform at the same level or better than before his injury. It’s your job when you come back as long as you can perform at the same level."

Redskins Su'a Cravens' Mom I'll Make Him Wear Cowboys Gear ... For Ignoring My Calls

Washington Redskins rookie Su'a Cravens is about to find out why he should NEVER ignore his mom's phone calls ... even if she's a fan of his team's rival.

Cravens told reporters earlier this week that he was preparing for his first matchup with the Dallas Cowboys by shutting down all communication with his mom -- a DIE-HARD supporter of America's Team.

Yolanda Cravens -- who admits she's slowly transitioning into a 'Skins fan -- tells us there will be consequences for Su'a's antics if the Redskins aren't victorious.

"If the Cowboys win, he has to wear something Cowboys. I don't know, they might throw tomatoes at him if he does that."

As for the Redskins drafting Su'a ... Yolanda says there's only one team she REALLY didn't want to select him ... and her reaction is hilarious.
