New legal trouble for Bryshere Gray ... the former "Empire" star is facing a criminal charge in Virginia.

According to legal docs obtained by TMZ ... Bryshere is charged with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery.

The docs show the alleged incident that led to the criminal charge happened on Friday ... Bryshere was arrested on Sunday and he's since bonded out of jail.

Judge Mathis says Diddy has some more ammo for a potential appeal if he ends up getting convicted in his federal criminal trial ... namely, a juror being dismissed by the judge.

Mathis joined us on "TMZ Live" Monday and we asked him about some shakeups with the Diddy jury.

Juror No. 6 was shown the door Monday morning after hearing arguments from the prosecution and the defense regarding where the juror lives ... but Judge Mathis says the decision came down too quickly.

The tragic shooting murders this weekend of a Minnesota politician and her husband, and the attempt on the lives of two others, who both survived -- was apparently pulled off by a police impersonator. What is the average civilian supposed to do with people impersonating police and other law enforcement officers -- like ICE agents -- in an attempt to get away with crimes ... including murder?

Ippei Mizuhara is behind bars -- Shohei Ohtani's former right-hand man and interpreter has surrendered to federal authorities to start his 57-month prison sentence.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to TMZ Sports that 40-year-old Mizuhara reported to the Federal Correctional Institution Allenwood Low facility in Pennsylvania on Monday ... hours before the Japanese superstar is slated to make his first pitching start for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mizuhara was sentenced to 57 months in prison this past February for stealing more than $16 million from Ohtani ... and was initially ordered to surrender in March, but the date was pushed back at his attorney's request.

12:50 PM PT -- Vance Boelter appeared in federal court Monday afternoon, where his bail was set at $5 million. His next hearing is scheduled for June 27.

Vance Boelter -- the suspected killer of Minnesota State Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband -- allegedly went to the homes of four different politicians with the intent to kill them ... according to the state's top prosecutor.

Joseph Thompson, the Acting United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota, says Boelter made a bunch of stops early Saturday morning ... first going to the home of Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman in Chaplin, where he shot the politician and his wife before fleeing the scene. Boelter was posing as a police officer, wearing a uniform and driving a vehicle resembling a police SUV, authorities have said.

Thompson says Boelter then went to Maple Grove and rang the doorbell at the home of an unnamed State Representative's house ... but the lawmaker was NOT home as she was on vacation with her family.
