Aldon Smith's loved ones are searching for answers after the former NFL star's death ... revealing they are sending his brain to Boston to determine whether he suffered from CTE.

Smith's family hired a legal team to help them investigate what may have contributed to his passing at 36 years old ... and that features several steps, including having his brain examined for damage caused by concussions and other trauma.

Smith was found unresponsive in his truck on Saturday after delivering pizzas to the homeless earlier in the day. A cause of death has not been announced.

Tragedy struck a bachelorette party hosted by Tyrese Haliburton's fiancée, Jade Jones, in St. Barts earlier this month when one of her friends died ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ Sports ... 26 year old Makenzi Kern passed away unexpectedly from health complications ... and the family does not suspect that foul play, drugs, or alcohol contributed to her death.

We're told the family is distraught by the loss.

The bungee jump operators who tossed a woman over a bridge without securing her rope have been arrested in Brazil ... and they're staring down homicide charges.

Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, were taken into police custody Saturday after Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas took her fatal plunge from the infamous Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, Brazil, NBC News reports.

The three suspects reportedly tried to flee after the deadly incident, but they didn't get far before they were captured.

As we reported ... the dog, Jameson, was shot to death when cops responded to his owner's home after a concerned neighbor heard a woman screaming after the New York Knicks won the NBA Finals.

LAPD says the dog charged at them, and that's why an officer pulled the trigger ... but his owner, Marie Marseille, claims her dog wasn't doing anything wrong.

According to court records obtained by TMZ, Jelly Roll filed for divorce from his wife in May in Tennessee. 

Sources tell TMZ ... the divorce was a mutual decision by the two and a private family matter.

Jelly Roll met Bunnie in 2015 before he hit it big ... but things didn't turn romantic until the following year.
