The Oscars to 'Compton' Cast Your Invitation's NOT in the Mail ... But It's Not Our Fault

Published | Updated

Oscar is wiping his hands clean -- the Motion Picture Academy denies having anything to do with the "Straight Outta Compton" cast not even getting invited to the ceremony.

The nomination diss was one thing, but as TMZ first reported ... the entire cast and the vast majority of the crew were not invited, including producers Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. The 4 nominated writers of the film did make the cut.

The Academy told People it has nothing to do with the Oscars guest list, saying it only invites nominees -- and anyone else who shows up has to be invited by their studio. The studios get an allotment of tickets each year based on how many nominations it receives ... according to the Academy.

Bottom line: Universal Pictures would have to hook up the cast, but as Cube told us ... he ain't trying to go to the Oscars, anyway.

'Straight Outta Compton' Cast Not Invited to Oscars ... But Ice Cube Not Interested

Published | Updated

The cast of "Straight Outta Compton" will NOT be at the Oscars because they were NOT invited -- nor was the film's producer Ice Cube.

Our 'Compton' sources say none of the cast received an invitation -- mirroring the nomination process. We're told the only people invited are the 2 writers nominated for best original screenplay.

Not that Cube's losing a lot of sleep over it -- we're told he would've RSVP'd a 'No' ... even if he'd been invited.

It's unclear if this is really a diss. There's no public list of Academy members, so it's hard to say what the Academy's criteria are for extending an invite. We've reached out, but no word back yet.

We're told Ice Cube WILL attend the SAG Awards and NAACP Image Awards ... which both nominated 'Compton.'.

Alfonso Ribeiro Oscars Are Small Fish ... But Will Was Still Worthy

Alfonso Ribeiro
FOCUS ON THE IMPORTANT STUFF

Alfonso Ribeiro's got a message for his pal Will Smith -- don't sweat the Oscars, 'cause they're just not that big of a deal.

Alfonso told us he thinks black people "have bigger fish to fry than the Oscars." In fact, he has a different perspective -- in Hollywood, anyway -- about awards in general.

What's odd is he's still waving the flag for Will to win one of those trophies, and he's got a take on all the Oscar protests.

Check out rebel Carlton! Not often ya get to see that.

I SHOULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED

TMZ Sports pop quiz ... did you know they actually made a sequel to the 2002 fantasy basketball film "Like Mike"?

We didn't think so.

Someone who does remember? Shad "Bow Wow" Moss -- star of "Like Mike" -- who says the direct-to-video "Like Mike 2: Streetball" failed for one HUGE REASON ... he wasn't in it.

Bow Wow was out in L.A. when he threw shade ... and when you look at the box office success of the first film ... you can't really disagree with the guy.

Check out the clip.

Abe Vigoda Dies at 94 (Not a Hoax)

Published | Updated

Legendary actor Abe Vigoda -- who starred in "The Godfather" -- died under hospice care at the age of 94 ... TMZ has learned.

Abe's death had been falsely reported countless times, dating all the way back to 1982.

His most famous role on TV was as Detective Phil Fish on the '80s sitcom "Barney Miller" ... which once worked the infamous hoax reports of Abe's death into a storyline.

He was also the grandfather in "Look Who's Talking."

Abe is survived by his daughter, Carol Vigoda Fuchs. He was married to Beatrice Schy from 1968 until 1992 ... when she passed away.

Paramount Pictures Parking PAs Sue ... You Grossed Billions But We Had To Crap In Our Cars!!!

Published | Updated

A group of production assistants are going after behemoth Paramount, claiming they were forced to take dumps in their cars while working on some of the studio's highest-grossing blockbusters.

The class action lawsuit was filed by 4 NYC based P.A.s, who say they began working for the studio in 2010 and put in mega hours for films like 'TMNT,' 'Wolf of Wall Street,' "Noah," and "Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon," which grossed more than $1 billion.

The group -- assigned to keep location shoots clear of pedestrians and cars -- claims they regularly put in 60-100 hours a week but never got overtime pay.

It gets worse ... they say they weren't allowed to leave their posts to get food or use the restrooms. Some say it was so bad they had to urinate and defecate into bottles and buckets in their cars.

We reached out to Paramount, so far no word back.

Nick Cannon The Oscars Ain't Worth Our Time ... But I Will Rhyme, About It

Published | Updated

Nick Cannon is lashing out at the Oscars for giving black actors the shaft this year, but unlike other protesters, Nick struck back ... in spoken word.

Nick penned, and then recorded, the poem/rap that covers the entire Oscars controversy -- including a shout-out to Chris Rock. Nick supports him hosting the show, saying ... "Hell, yeah, I'm gonna watch that ceremony where they gonna let a black man be the Master for at least two hours."

It's not clear if Nick's saying screw the Oscars altogether, like Jada Pinkett Smith, or demanding more black involvement in the Oscars voting process ... like Nick's "Chi-Raq" director Spike Lee said.

Either way ... man's got rhymes.

Mark Ruffalo Thanks Pint-Sized Good Samaritans Now Here's Your Reward

ENTER AMENAIDE AND CATHERINE: Two little girls walking home with their mom from the Shake Shack (delicious), when one of them saw something half-buried in the snow -- Mark's missing stuff. They checked his driver's license, but didn't recognize "Mark Ruffalo."

PLOT TWIST: The phone was locked so there was no way to get the number, but someone texted and left their number on the screen. One call led to another and they got in touch with Mark's publicist.

FEEL-GOOD MOMENT: Their dad, Peter Brown, tells us Mark dropped by to pick up his wallet and cellphone, and gave the girls $100 for their good deed. He also promised them a signed Hulk pic.

The girls are going to spend the loot at a candy shop, stocking up on bubble gum and peanut butter M&M's.

The Oscars Academy Members Vote ... We'll Be Less White

Published | Updated

The Motion Picture Academy is getting some "brothas on the wall" -- to quote Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" -- after unanimously voting to increase its minority and female membership.

Thursday night's vote -- a clear reaction to outrage over a lack of black Oscar nominees recently -- will not affect this year's ceremony, but instead aims to double the Academy's diversity by 2020.

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said they will immediately begin recruiting new minority members. She also announced new rules to ensure that the only members who get to vote on Oscar nominees will be those who are still actively making films.

Bottom line: If you're an Academy member who's old and out of touch with the latest movie culture ... your days might be numbered.

What the vote doesn't address is what Spike talked about -- which is more minorities at the studio level who decide which films get made.

Baby steps.
