A family member tells TMZ ... Crofts died Wednesday from complications of a heart surgery. No plans for a memorial have been set at this time.
His death was first announced by producer Louie Shelton early Thursday morning. Shelton produced Seals & Crofts’ biggest projects, including 1971’s “Year of Sunday,” 1972’s “Summer Breeze,” 1973’s “Diamond Girl,” and 1976’s “Get Closer," per All Music.

Chip died Monday night in hospice care, according to a social media post from Grammy-winning singer Billy Vera. The official cause of death is unclear.
Chip's songwriting catalog is impressive ... he wrote "Wild Thing" for The Troggs in the 1960s, plus "Angel of the Morning" for Merrilee Rush.
New Found Glory guitarist and singer Chad Gilbert is back on the mend after doctors found three tumors in his brain.
In a post shared on Instagram ... Chad revealed he was losing control of his limbs last month, which led to him going to the ER to get a CT scan ... that's when doctors discovered the tumors.
According to Chad, he had a successful surgery to remove the tumors on February 27, and he's been recovering in the hospital ever since.

Bluegrass singer and country songwriter Ronnie Bowman -- who wrote hits for Chris Stapleton and Kenny Chesney -- has died.
According to reports, the musician was severely injured in a motorcycle crash in Ashland City, Tennessee on Saturday.
Bluegrass Today wrote Bowman suffered "a number of serious brain bleeds" and was on life support at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He succumbed to his injuries Sunday.
