Famed Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio has died ... TMZ has learned.

Her death was announced on her official Instagram page Monday. Paquita la del Barrio, which translates to "Paquita from the hood," was long known as a powerful figure against the machismo culture in Latin America.

The Grammy-nominated singer became infamous for songs that stood up to and defied men, such as "Rata de dos patas," which translates to "Walking rat with two feet."

Shakira says the show can't go on in Lima, Peru tonight ... 'cause she's laid up in a hospital bed with abdominal pain.

The singer-songwriter announced the shocking news moments ago ... taking to her Instagram Story to apologize to her fans in the city because she's not going to be able to perform.

Shakira says doctors shut down the notion of her performing tonight ... orders that she says she's especially upset about because she's been looking forward to reconnecting with her Peruvian fans.

Gadd passed away this week in Las Vegas, says Feldman who announced the overdose death on Instagram along with a short clip of Duke sitting behind his drums onstage.

Corey says that Gadd was the son of legendary percussionist Steve Gadd -- and, like his father, Duke was super talented with a big heart.
