Doug Martin's family claims excessive force by police played a "substantial" role in his death last year ... and they're taking the matter to court.

Douglas and Leslie Martin filed a lawsuit against the city of Oakland, responding officers, and an ambulance company this week ... saying they want to get to the bottom of exactly what happened to their 36-year-old son back on October 18.

"Unfortunately the litigation is a mechanism to best get that done," attorney John Burris said.

A security guard is under arrest and booked with two felonies after allegedly firing a taser dart into the face of a patron at a Southern California bar, according to police. 

The insane incident, which occurred Wednesday night at Park 101 in Carlsbad, CA, was caught on video by a witness, who then posted the shocking clip to social media, and it instantly went viral.

Check it out ... the patron is talking with a couple of security guards at the bar when things suddenly take an ugly turn. One guard pulls out a taser and, at point-blank range, fires a dart into the young man's face. The victim falls to the ground in obvious pain as a good Samaritan comes over to assist him. 

Nick Cannon is remembering his late son, Zen, on what would've been his 5th birthday.

The comedian and actor got together with his coparent Alyssa Scott, their daughter Halo Marie, and other family members to honor Zen, who would have turned 5 on June 23. Unfortunately, he passed away at just 5 months old from a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

Therefore, his Friday show in Chicago, Illinois and Saturday concert in Columbus, Ohio are being postponed -- no makeup date announced yet.

The United Center noted that Lionel and Earth, Wind & Fire are scheduled to pick things back up on Tuesday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and that Lionel is "heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans."

A disturbed passenger on a United Airlines flight caused one helluva scene, prompting the captain to divert the plane and land in Tokyo for safety reasons, according to an eyewitness.

The bizarre incident occurred on a UA commercial jet heading to San Francisco from Shanghai, China, on Wednesday afternoon, the witness wrote in a post on Reddit. 

According to the witness's account ... after takeoff, a passenger was getting unruly ... before beefing with crew members on the plane.
