An *NSYNC vs. Backstreet Boys golf match might actually happen -- this I promise you -- 'cause Lance Bass tells TMZ Sports he's accepting the "Larger Than Life" crooners' challenge!!

Just a few days after Brian Littrell and Nick Carter told us they wanted to mix it up with *NSYNC on the links ... Bass made it clear he's down.

"Of course," he said while out in Los Angeles ... "Bring it!"

Forget Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, the man who created "The Match" tells TMZ Sports he wants the next iteration of the famed golf event to feature the Backstreet Boys vs. *NSYNC!

Bryan Zuriff -- a film and TV producer who brought "The Match" to life in 2018 -- said on Friday he's all in on the idea of the boy band battle on the links ... after he heard BSB issue Justin Timberlake and Co. the challenge on TMZ Sports this week.

Zuriff said he's got a big vision for the potential event ... explaining he wants it to go down at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas -- with the Sphere (where BSB are currently performing) in the backdrop!

A boy band battle between the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC might finally go down ... but sorry, music heads -- if BSB has it their way, it won't be with microphones.

Nick Carter and Brian Littrell told TMZ Sports this week they actually want to take on Justin Timberlake and Co. in a golf match!

The guys threw down the challenge while they were playing a round at Pebble Beach ... during a brief break from their tour at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

Golf's biggest mystery has been solved ... the culprit who ripped a loud fart during The Open Championship in Ireland has finally stepped forward -- and it was none other than Scottie Scheffler!!!

Scheffler admitted guilt on the Pardon My Take podcast, when he was asked about the fart heard not just on the course, but around the world.

"Yeah, that was me," Scottie admitted.

Adam Sandler is officially back on the green after "Happy Gilmore 2" dropped on Friday ... and, while many actors from the first flick are back, the new faces in the cast -- like Eminem -- are doing their best to capture the vibe of the 1996 classic.

Ex-NHL enforcer Nick Tarnasky's current employer tells TMZ Sports it is investigating his role in that wild Fourth of July golf fight.

Red Deer Minor Hockey -- where Tarnasky coaches a U17 squad -- said in a statement to us on Tuesday it has seen the video of the 40-year-old former Florida Panther throwing a man into a golf course's pond ... and it is looking into the siutation.

"At this time," the org. told us, "given that we understand the matter is being reviewed by local policing authorities and we are conducting our own internal investigation into the alleged incident, we will have no further comments."

Police in Canada tell TMZ Sports ... the fight took place on July 4 at around 5:47 PM at Alberta Springs Golf Course in Red Deer.

Officers did respond to the scene after they received reports of an intoxicated person who had been instigating fights -- but cops said by the time they arrived, the suspect had left.

No arrests were made, and there's no further investigation into the matter, authorities said.

A golfer was thrown into a pond and then beaten in the face by a flurry of punches during a dispute on the course ... and the wild altercation was captured on video.

The U.S. Open is going down this weekend at the Oakmont Country Club, and even though there will only be one winner, all these golfers will still go home with something special -- their stunning wives/girlfriends!!
