Billy Bob's Daughter Charged in Death of Baby

Published | Updated

We've learned the oldest daughter of Billy Bob Thornton has been charged with child neglect in the death of a 1-year-old she was babysitting.

Amanda Brumfield told cops the child died in October after falling from her playpen, but a spokesman for the Ocoee Police Department said Amanda Brumfield's story didn't add up.

An autopsy determined the child suffered a fractured skull and a subdural hematoma due to blunt trauma.

Brumfield told police that after the baby had fallen, she discovered her tongue bleeding, so Brumfield cleaned it with a paper towel. She then says she began playing with the child, feeding her bananas and fruit snacks, and said she was "happy" and playful.

Brumfield then said she laid the child on the couch next to her and fell asleep. She says was awoken sometime later by the phone and decided to take the child back to the playpen. When she lifted her, Brumfield told cops she discovered her body was limp.

According to police, the call for help didn't come until two and a half hours after the original fall.

Brumfield is Thornton's child with his first wife, Melissa Gatlin.

UPDATE -- A rep for Thornton sent TMZ this statement: "Mr. Thornton is estranged from Amanda and has had no contact with her for quite some time, however when informed about this situation he commented that, 'Anytime a baby's life is lost is an unimaginable tragedy and my heart goes out to the baby's family and loved ones.'"

'Gossip Girl' Star I Spied for My Son

Published | Updated

In a move straight out of the Bart Bass playbook, "Gossip Girl" star Kelly Rutherford hired a detective to videotape her ex -- but today outside court, she insisted it was only to check in on "my son's safety."

Rutherford hired the private eye to prove her ex, Daniel Giersch, didn't properly secure the pool and play areas at his home -- which she said endangered the couple's 2-year-old son Hermes. She also wanted Daniel to stop potty training the kid.

The judge ordered Giersch to properly cover the pool -- and today in court Daniel proved that had been done. As for the toilet talk, Hermes will continue to use pull-ups and can use a toilet if he so chooses.

'Gossip Girl' Custody Battle Showdown

"Gossip Girl" matriarch Kelly Rutherford just arrived at the L.A. County Courthouse to square off with soon-to-be-ex hubby Daniel Giersch in what has become a legal hate-fest.

Giersch didn't want their two-year-old son, Hermes Gustaf, to travel with Kelly to NYC to film "Gossip Girl." The judge allowed the travel temporarily, and today Giersch's lawyer says everyone will probably agree to some permanent custody deal.

Rutherford, who plays Lily van der Woodsen on the show, is pregnant with their second child ... always awkward.

UPDATE -- So much for optimism. Not much went down and nothing was decided. Both sides will back in court to do it all again soon.

OctoMom Probed by Child Services

Published | Updated

Before she had the octuplets, Nadya Suleman was investigated by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) ... and that's just the beginning -- cops have been called to her homestead a slew of times.

We've learned on July 7, 2008, DCFS received a complaint from a neighbor who felt Nadya's six kids "were not clean or being fed properly." An investigation was opened, and DCFS took a Suspected Child Abuse Report. Investigators went to Nadya's home, interviewed some of the kids and filed a report. Officials concluded the allegation was "unfounded."

Fair enough -- but then there's this. Our search shows that cops were called to Nadya's last two homes a total of eight times.

(1) On January 9, 2008, someone called 911 after one of Nadya's kids accidentally locked himself/herself in a room. The cops came and a patrol officer picked the lock.

(2) On October 27, 2008, Nadya called 911 in a panic because one of her kids was missing. Five patrol units responded to the house -- turns out the five-year-old had followed grandma around the block.

(3) On January 23, 2009, three days before the OctoBabies were born and Nadya was in the hospital, one of the kids called 911 from the house. We don't know why.

(4 & 5) Cops were called by neighbors twice (May 12, 2008 and August 10, 2008) because the front door was left open and they feared a break in.

(6) Cops went along with DCFS after getting the complaint on July 7, 2008.

(7 & 8)
We all know about the two post-OctoBirth calls -- when cops were called to control reporters and when a neighbor brandished a shotgun.

But surely things will get calmer once the additional eight kids come home ...

So you wonder who's gonna pay for Octomom's bushel of kiddies? Well this pic may foretell the future.

Nadya Suleman got the Denver boot two years ago for not paying parking tickets. The pic was taken in the parking lot of the Cal State Fullerton Children's Center. The future Octomom was attending school there when she came out to her Toyota Sienna to find she got the boot. Two of her kids -- #2 and #3 -- were in the front seat.

We did some digging and at the time the minivan was booted she had 3 delinquent parking tickets -- all issued on campus at Cal State Fullerton.

We're told the silhouette in the back seat is Nadya feeding another member of the soon-to-be-ever-growing brood.

Fitty Won't Have to Pony Up 50% to Babymama

Published | Updated

50 Cent's baby mama won't be able to take half his loot, a judge just ruled in New York.

A Supreme Court judge just dismissed Shaniqua Tompkins' claim to half the rapper's assets, which she had estimated at $50 million. Tompkins is the mama of Fitty's 11-year-old son.

The judge said in her judgment the relationship was "an unfortunate tale of a love relationship gone sour." Both sides had filed memorable affidavits detailing their pillow talk -- she claimed 50 promised to take care of her "for life."

Didn't work for Babymama, but her lawyer says he could file an appeal.

Brett Kimmel, 50 Cent's attorney, tells TMZ, "Ms. Tompkins's claims pertaining to a $50 million verbal contract were entirely frivolous. In dismissing the case before trial, the court is sending a clear message. This is a complete and total victory for 50." 50 himself added, "I'm very thankful for this decision. I knew that once the facts were heard that justice would prevail. I hope now that we can put this behind us and move forward with our lives."
