Mel Gibson is apologizing after catching heat for making hand gestures behind an ASL interpreter at a Canadian fan expo ... telling TMZ it was a dumb, spur-of-the-moment move with no ill intent.

Mel tells TMZ ... "Sometimes when you get pushed out on a stage in a spotlight your mind is all over the place, and sometimes spontaneous thoughtless idiocy is displayed."

He adds ... "There was no intended maliciousness attached, and I certainly apologize to anyone who was upset by it."

10:42 AM PT -- Mel Gibson has apologized, telling TMZ ... "Sometimes when you get pushed out on a stage in a spotlight your mind is all over the place, and sometimes spontaneous thoughtless idiocy is displayed."

Mel Gibson is catching heat for allegedly mocking an American Sign Language interpreter -- and it was all caught on video.

Check it out ... Mel is first introduced by moderator Liam Crowley at Saturday's Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, and then the actor walks out onstage behind an interpreter doing sign language for deaf people in the crowd.

As you can see, Mel turns to the audience and does a little sign language himself before he heads over to Crowley to shake hands and sit down opposite the moderator.

Randy Quaid is putting the brakes on Anne Hathaway joining Tom Cruise in "Days of Thunder 2" ... calling her a "horrible choice" and saying Cruise should reunite with Nicole Kidman instead.

The actor -- who starred alongside Cruise in the original 1990 NASCAR flick -- went off on X after Hathaway was announced as Cruise's new costar ... blasting her as "leftist" and "woke."

Randy's argument is pretty simple ... he says the "Days of Thunder" audience is heavily MAGA and claims Hathaway is a bad fit for that crowd.

Tom Cruise is slamming his foot on the gas pedal again with a sequel to his ultra-popular 1990 NASCAR flick, "Days of Thunder," but this time around Anne Hathaway is coming along for the ride.

That's right ... Cruise will be driving the film, aptly titled, "Days of Thunder 2," with Hathway in the passenger seat and it's set to be released June 2, 2028. Cruise will reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and Hathaway will play a team owner and engineer.

The costars cut a promo for the sequel, which was posted on Instagram, and it begins with Cruise checking to see if the camera is on as a pregnant Hathaway stands nearby.

Cameron Diaz doesn't need to wear a "Mask," 'cuz her genes over the years have been ... "SMOKIN'!"

Here is 21-year-old version of the blonde bombshell at the 47th Annual Cannes Film Festival back in 1994 (left). This was just a couple months before "The Mask" premiered where she played the sexy Tina Carlyle.

And, more than two decades later this birthday girl is still flashing her pearly whites and stunning looks, recently hitting a red carpet (right).

No doubt, she's a force to be reckoned with here in Hollywood, but the question here is: Good Genes or Good Docs?!

How many cast and crew members can you name in this photo?

From left to right ...

That's endgame for Chris Evans' Hollywood Hills home ... because he just sold it for over $5 mil, TMZ has learned.

He had listed it for $6.3 mil back in June and closed the sale today, but seemingly slashed the price at the 11th hour to make the perfect score.

And honestly, feels like a steal ... because check out this gorgeous kitchen! It's equipped with an impressive 60-inch Wolf range.

Michael Douglas' dad, Kirk Douglas, made sure the actor's wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, was taken care of in his will before he died ... TMZ has learned.

TMZ obtained the trust documents executed by Kirk, who died in 2020 at 103, and his widow, Anne Douglas, who died in 2021 at 102 ... and they lay out which family members inherited the various parts of their massive estate.

Kirk had four kids: Michael, Eric, Joel, and Peter Douglas ... and his grandkids are also beneficiaries of the estate.

Viola Davis says Target could win people over again after releasing a racist Halloween costume ... if they play their cards right.

While leaving LAX Friday, the acclaimed actress explained forgiveness is possible for the retailer, but she's got some pointers.

Viola says restoring DEI, supporting more Black business owners, and ensuring they don't release any more offensive costumes are all solid steps on the road to regaining consumers' trust.

Heather Locklear and Lorenzo Lamas are loving life together ... even if they jokingly tell us otherwise.

We caught the couple at LAX on Friday and asked how things were going ... prompting Heather to crack, "Oh, it's horrible" ... while Lorenzo piled on, calling their relationship "a nightmare."

Yeah ... safe to say they were being sarcastic.

The two were all smiles as they told us their families are getting along great -- something we previously reported after Heather met Lorenzo's kids and grandkids earlier this year.

Just when you think Gabrielle Union couldn't get any hotter, she says ... bring it on! The actress is blessing our feeds as she's livin' it up on a yacht.

Gab was lookin' fab in her teeny bikinis ... flaunting her killer curves as she soaked up the summer sun.

You know Dwyane Wade was enjoying the view ... and we're obviously not talking about the crystal-clear water and the sunny skies.

Rumer Willis' ex Derek Richard Thomas is firing back in their custody war ... accusing her of trying to interfere with his time with their daughter.

In new court docs, obtained by TMZ, Derek says Rumer's claims about his alleged drug use, endangering their 3-year-old daughter, Louetta, and refusing to cooperate are "materially false and misleading."

Derek claims it's actually Rumer who has been making things difficult ... saying she repeatedly frustrates his visitation time and fails to follow custody orders.

Ben Affleck and Aflac might have something brewing ... at least that's the theory behind a string of mysterious ads popping up across Los Angeles that make it look like there's a collab.

The bright blue Aflac postings feature "BEN AFFLECK" in black spray paint-style lettering across the company's logo ... and the same graffiti-style design has appeared at several locations, making it seem more like a marketing stunt than random vandalism.

Fans have spotted the ads near Jefferson and Centinela, Robertson and 3rd, La Cienega and Jefferson, Sunset and Argyle, and Melrose and Mansfield ... busy intersections that attract a lot of eyeballs.

Did you have the release of Bane's debut rap album on your 2026 bingo card? Well, buckle up ... because Tom Hardy's dropping bars.

The actor just dropped an album with Czarface -- a group formed by Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck and 7L & Esoteric -- under the pseudonym Frankie Pulitzer.

If you can believe it ... the songs are actually pretty good, and one is even a collab with rap legends Busta Rhymes and Method Man.

TBH, the stage name works for TH, because his pen is lethal -- even venomous, some would say. But don't just take our word for it ... check out the songs for yourself.
