Brittney Griner Releasing Doc On Russia Drug Case ... Scripted Series On Life

Published

Brittney Griner's story is getting the Mickey Mouse treatment -- the WNBA superstar just inked a deal with Disney, ESPN and ABC for multiple upcoming projects ... including a documentary about her Russian drug case.

"The last two years have been the most harrowing, transformative and illuminating period of my life, and I am grateful to be in a place now to share my story with the world," Griner said in a statement on Thursday.

"I’m proud to partner with ESPN and Disney to share this very personal story because of its incredible potential to inspire hope around the world and their proven ability to do just that."

The partnership also includes the development of a scripted limited series on Griner's life, which is said to already be "in the works."

Griner was arrested at a Russian airport in February 2022 for cannabis possession. She was sentenced to nine years in prison ... before the U.S. government made a deal to get her back in Dec. 2022 that involved Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Since Griner's release, the center signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix Mercury -- averaging 17.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season -- and has become an advocate for Americans who have been detained in another country.

"Brittney is an exceptional athlete whose hardship and resilience are nothing short of extraordinary," ESPN president Burke Magnus said. "We are thrilled to be working with her to tell the nuances of her story and feel confident that this documentary will captivate audiences everywhere."

The documentary will feature previously unreleased footage, records and letters from Griner's time in prison.

The release date is to be determined.

Vivek Ramaswamy Sinks to Fat-Shaming Chris Christie ... 'Meal' Crack in GOP Debate

CHEWING OUT CHRISTIE

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy took a low blow at former NJ Gov. Chris Christie in the latest Republican debate, essentially telling him to get out of the race and go stuff his face.

Ramaswamy fired off the remark Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa, Alabama ... claiming Christie's only experience on the topic of foreign policy was shutting down the George Washington Bridge -- an infamous moment during his time as Governor.

That woulda been politics as usual, but then Ramaswamy took it to fat-shaming -- he added, "Just walk yourself off that stage, enjoy a nice meal, and get the hell out of this race."

The crack garnered some applause, but mostly a whole lotta booing.

His harsh words came after Christie jumped to fellow candidate Nikki Haley's defense -- Ramaswamy accused her of not knowing where specific provinces in Ukraine were if she was given a map.

Christie called her a "smart, accomplished woman," and blasted Ramaswamy for being, in his eyes, "the most obnoxious blowhard in America."

Frontrunner Donald Trump again wasn't in attendance for the 4th debate, but he grabbed plenty of headlines leading up to it.

As we reported, he told Fox News' Sean Hannity, if elected again, he'd only be a dictator on the first day of his presidency.

Donald Trump I Promise I'll Be a Dictator ... But Only on Day 1

Published | Updated

Donald Trump made an ominous promise Tuesday night ... he promises if he's elected President again he will be a dictator ... but only for a short time.

Trump was front and center at a Fox News town hall when Sean Hannity asked him if he had plans to abuse power if elected. Sounds like a crazy question, but you may recall Trump has been talking about retribution against his enemies if he gets back in The White House.

Trump was clear ... yes, he would be a dictator on Day 1, but not thereafter. And, he said, on Day 1, he would unilaterally close the border and create a clear path for oil drilling.

Here's the thing ... if you look at the history of dictators in the world, they generally don't give up power once they attain it.

The other thing ... when Trump says he'd be a dictator for a day, it's not clear what that means in reference to the border and drilling. If he's talking about executive orders -- something presidents have in their toolbox of power -- that's not dictatorial. So it's interesting he embraced the word "dictator."

One more thing ... during the grievance-filled show, Trump said, "I often say Al Capone, he was one of the greatest of all time if you like criminals. He was a mob boss the likes of which -- Scarface they called him -- and he got indicted once. I got indicted 4 times."

Sorry, Donald, Al's got you beat. Capone was indicted 6 times.

Charlie Ward On FSU Snub ... CFP Committee Meetings Should Be Open!!!

EVERY GAME COUNTS

Seminoles legend Charlie Ward is asking for full access to College Football Playoff committee meetings going forward ... after he believes Florida State got screwed over during Sunday's selection process.

The former Heisman Trophy winner told TMZ Sports he believes full transparency following the committee's controversial pick of 12-1 Alabama over 13-0 FSU would help assuage a lot of the salty opinions that were created by the org.'s decision.

Ward -- who ended up having a successful career in the NBA after college football -- says when he was on the Florida High School Athletic Association, open-door meetings helped squelch outrage ... and now he's asking for similar from the CFP.

"A lot of our meetings are online to where people can weigh in and see what the conversations are," Ward said.

"I would like to see us open up that process so that we can hear these conversations and weigh in on the process."

Ward is not the only one who wants something done ... Florida Senator Rick Scott wrote the committee a letter, demanding the CFP provide answers following its "unprecedented exclusion" of FSU from this year's national championship race.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also pledged $1 million to sue the CFP after the FSU snub.

GEORGE SANTOS TAKING LEGAL ACTION OVER HBO FILM 'F*** 'Em & Their Chicken S***!!!'

Published | Updated

George Santos is saying a big "f*** you" to everyone at HBO ... vowing to go after the channel/streaming platform for developing a new movie about his controversial political career.

The recently-booted congressman sounded off to TMZ after HBO optioned the rights to Mark Chiusano's new book "The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos" ... blasting it as defamatory and misappropriating his name and likeness.

Santos says he has zero involvement in the "fictitious story" the movie plans to sell to the American people ... and is vexed about the filmmakers and book's author not speaking to him or getting authorization to write about him.

However, he says he's not concerned about how he'll be represented in the doc ... because he's working on a project that best fits his narrative. As for HBO, Santos vented, "F*** them and their chicken s*** deal with no inside information or reality of facts."

BTW, we talked to the guy whose book this HBO film is based on ... and he tells us he tried his best to get GS to get involved in the story, to no avail though.

Author Mark Chiusano -- who published 'The Fabulist' this year -- joined us on "TMZ Live" Tuesday to discuss Santos' threats of action against the movie ... and he says he's heard it all before. The guy also stands by his work, and thinks he did a good job of representing things as they are.

Kelsey Grammer Interview Allegedly Cut Short ... After Trump Talk Began

did someone say ... trump?

Kelsey Grammer's recent BBC interview was short-lived as soon as he started talking about Donald Trump -- and it wasn't the outlet's decision ... so says one of their radio hosts.

Justin Webb was talking to KG on the air Monday for BBC Radio 4's 'Today' show ... and they were talking all about this new 'Frasier' reboot that's coming to Paramount+ -- and at one point, the host brought up Grammer's famous support of ex-President Trump.

Webb said he knows Grammer once *was* a Trumper, and asked if he still was even all these years later -- to which Grammer replied, yes indeed!

Grammer didn't really elaborate, saying he'd just let it lie there -- but in the next breath, Webb picks up the chat -- which was clearly pre-recorded -- to claim Kelsey actually had a lot more to say on the subject ... suggesting the Paramount honchos shut it all down.

Apparently, KG was excited that Webb brought Trump up ... although, it doesn't sound like Paramount's PR people were thrilled about it at all, and wanted to get back on message.

Webb says Grammer offered up some rationale on why he still backs Trump, even heading into the 2024 election -- but since he's now involved with Paramount and co. on this new show, it doesn't seem we'll get to hear the why of it all.

Barbra Streisand Migrant Boat Washes Ashore Reportedly Right By Her Malibu Home

Published | Updated

The beachy backyard of Barbra Streisand's Malibu home reportedly became the landing spot for a migrant boat that drifted ashore earlier this past week ... and it's all on video.

FOX News' Bill Melugin obtained shocking footage that appears to show a panga boat washing ashore on Tuesday afternoon off the coast of Malibu with what he describes as suspected illegal migrants ... at least a couple dozen or so from the looks of it.

120323_malibu_boat_kal NOVEMBER 2023
ARRIVING TO SHORE

According to the surveillance video, this was captured in broad daylight ... around 1 PM or so, and you can see these folks hop out and scurry along the beach as soon as they land.

No word if any of them have been captured and detained just yet ... but just a day later, reports of yet another panga boat surfaced off the coast of Malibu as well -- only that one sunk, and nobody was found ... only debris and life jackets, per local Los Angeles media.

Now, as far as what Barb has to do with any of this ... the New York Post insists this boat that drifted in from sea actually did so just below her Malibu compound -- although it's unclear where they're getting that info from ... as they don't cite any official sourcing.

Barbra owns three adjacent properties in the area, and yes -- they do all border a cliff that overlooks the ocean below. If it's true her crib was located just above where this boat landed ... it's a pretty frightening scenario, especially if the migrants are still on the loose.

Of course, there are several other stars who live in Malibu that this could possibly affect as well -- including neighbors of Barbra's like Lady Gaga, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Leo DiCaprio and countless other celebs who have properties in the area.

What's interesting about the location ... Malibu is a sanctuary city, and some speculate that may be part of the reason the boat arrived there ... as opposed to L.A., which is not yet officially a sanctuary city -- although it did pass a resolution this year to start the process.

In any case, it's just evidence that the situation at the Southern border doesn't just stop there ... looks like people are finding ways into the country through other avenues, and Hollywood's elite might just have to deal with it.

We've reached out to Streisand for comment ... so far, no word back.

Israel-Hamas War U.S. Warship Attacked in Red Sea ... Yemen Rebels to Blame

Published | Updated

An American warship was attacked in the Red Sea this weekend as the fighting between Israel and Hamas picked back up again -- and the U.S. government says Yemen did it.

The USS Carney -- a Naval destroyer of ours that patrols the region -- was bombarded with missiles and drones over the course of 5 hours Sunday, but appears to have fought off much of (if not all) of the incoming fire ... this according to Pentagon officials.

There were accompanying commercial ships that were traversing the Red Sea alongside Carney -- and reports say some of those might've been hit during the cross fire.

None of those commercial ships are American, but some are said to have British and Israeli ties ... allies of the U.S. Government officials say Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility, although the rebels didn't specifically ID Carney as a target. Still, it appears the warship was caught up in it all ... at this point, no casualties have been reported.

The Houthi militia stand in solidarity with Hamas and are warning vessels that they believe come from Israel to stay out of the area -- and claim the ships that were attacked Sunday failed to heed their commands and evacuate the space.

Obviously, this comes on the heels of the end of the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel last week -- with the IDF now continuing their campaign in Gaza to secure hostages.

It's unclear how the U.S. will respond to the Houthi aggression -- but it goes without saying ... attacking an American warship could easily result in an escalation of tensions on our end.
