Beyonce has given birth to a boy and a girl, but an issue surfaced that has kept them in the hospital for nearly a week ... TMZ has confirmed.

Sources connected with the family tell us the twins were born Tuesday in a Los Angeles hospital. We're told a "minor issue" surfaced, and as a result ... doctors do not feel comfortable releasing them.

We do not know the nature of the issue.

One source told us Beyonce also remains at the hospital, but as far as we know she's okay. The babies are expected to be okay as well.

It's unclear when everyone will be released.

12:14 PM PT -- Beyonce's mom, Tina Knowles, just liked Mathew's post on IG, making her the 2nd family member to publicly acknowledge the birth.

Beyonce's dad weighed in on the birth of his twin grandkids five days after the infants weighed in.

Mathew Knowles took to social media Sunday with a digital birthday card to Beyonce's new baby boy and girl with a tag that said ... "They're here!" The card read ..."Happy Birthday to the twins! Love, Granddad." He also threw in hashtags like #beyonce #jayz #twins #birthday and #happybirthday.

TMZ broke the story ... the twins were born Tuesday but have remained in the hospital because of a "minor issue." Beyonce has also remained in the hospital with her newborns.

Mathew is the first family member to publicly shout-out the birth.

There have been rumblings all week Beyonce gave birth in a Los Angeles hospital. There were signs she might have given birth to a boy and a girl based on balloons that were delivered to a hospital, but no hard evidence so far.

President Obama intimated a few days ago the twins might be girls, but again ... nothing concrete.

The evidence seems to be mounting ... 5-year-old Blue Ivy could earn some serious babysitting cash.

Serena Williams is such an insane athlete, she's playing tennis while 7 months pregnant -- and will still destroy all comers!!

SW is roughly 28 weeks with child (that's the 3rd trimester btw) -- but despite her growing baby bump, the tennis superstar busted out her racket and smashed some baseline forehands this morning.

To put it in perspective, Parents.com says her baby should be the size of an eggplant right now!

We already know she won the Australian Open while that human being was cooking inside her. Question is ... how many people could she take down now?

Dustin Johnson's having a busy week -- his fiancee, Paulina Gretzky, gave birth on Monday ... and then he flew out to Wisconsin for the U.S. open on Tuesday -- and it's all part of the family plan.

With Paulina ready to pop, the couple planned for a C-section delivery at an L.A. hospital on Monday -- giving Johnson enough time to attend the birth and still make it to the golf tourney, which starts Thursday.

Everything went according to plan, according to ESPN's Ian O'Connor, who says Paulina delivered a bouncing baby boy on Monday. The couple picked the name River Jones Johnson.

Sources tell TMZ Sports Dustin and Wayne Gretzky were both at the hospital for the special moment.

The very next day, DJ hopped on a flight to Erin, Wisconsin to gear up for the U.S. Open with a clear head -- knowing Paulina and baby are happy and healthy back home.

Our Erin, Wisconsin sources (yeah, we got those) tell us Dustin appeared focused on golf and confident when he got to Wisconsin -- but he's clearly pumped about having his 2nd kid.

Jay Z is jamming all the way down in Jamaica, and ya gotta wonder if pregnant Beyonce is waiting in vain ... back in L.A.

If ya missed the references -- Jay was spotted Friday in Kingston, where he was recording new music with Damian Marley ... in Bob Marley's legendary Tuff Gong Studio.

By most calendars, Bey should be within days of having the twins. Remember, Mathew Knowles recently told us she was "more than 2 weeks" away from popping -- and that was 3 weeks ago! So ... tick, tick, tick.

But Jay being a solid 6 hours away by private jet must mean the coast is clear ... for today, anyway.

Bottom line? Don't worry about a thing ...

Halle Berry couldn't stomach rumors she was pregnant, so she let her stomach do the talking to prove she's not.

The 50-year-old actress was leaving Cecconi's restaurant in WeHo Thursday night ... baring just enough to throw shade on everyone who jumped to conclusions based on photos taken a few days ago.

As we reported, we confirmed Halle's not having another kid, but hey ... this is hard evidence.

George and Amal Clooney are officially parents after she popped out twins ... a girl and a boy!

Their rep says the birth went down Tuesday morning ... and the lil Clooneys are named Ella and Alexander.

The high-profile couple had actually been keeping a low-profile lately in England. The last time Amal was out in public was at "The Promise" premiere on April 6 in London. You'll recall, George showed up to an event 20 days later in London ... with no Amal in sight.

Amal did throw George a surprise birthday party last month in London.

Their reps says mom and the kids are "healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days."

More like 18 years. Congrats!

Halle Berry is not pregnant ... repeat, not pregnant ... this according to reliable sources very close to the actress.

This pic raised some eyebrows over the weekend, but Halle shot the rumors down, saying, "Can a girl have some steak and fries??"

Now, she could be lying, but we know she's telling people super close to her it's not true, and she's not really dating anyone anyway.

The 50-year-old has 2 kids.

Terricka is 7 months pregnant. This is her 6th kid. Antonio has 8 other kids from previous relationships.

The craziest part of the whole story ... Antonio says he underwent a vasectomy BEFORE she got pregnant with twins last year. Might wanna call that doctor back.

Funny moment with Irish superstar Colin Farrell ... who apparently hasn't done his Irish duty of checking in on Conor McGregor's baby yet.

Farrell jokes that he "should" check up on Ireland's most famous baby -- and then cracks on our photog for not keeping up with Irish politics.

The best part's when Colin tries to zing our Australian camera guy, Charlie, for being an uneducated American.

J.R. Smith had a helluva day Tuesday ... taking his baby, Dakota, home and winning a playoff game ... and now we have the first photo of daddy and daughter at home.

As we previously reported, Smith and his wife, Shirley, took Kota home yesterday after a miracle 4 month stay in the hospital.

Kota was born in January at only 21 gestational weeks ... and many "experts" thought survival was virtually impossible.

They were wrong.

Beyonce is just about ready to pop -- and it REALLY showed at her 2nd baby shower this weekend ... mostly 'cause of her belly tattoos.

It seems like any day now, but Bey's dad Mathew Knowles said on "TMZ Live" Friday she was more than 2 weeks away.

Mathew Knowles has some insider info that should get the Beyhive buzzin' ... about how much longer we have to wait 'til Beyonce has her twins.

Bey's father came on "TMZ Live" and we asked him to give us a ballpark figure on when the twins will be delivered. Like, should we order a bouquet now ... or hold off a few days, maybe weeks?

Mathew answered ... and seemed pretty confident.

You may recall ... Beyonce and Mathew went through a rough patch before reconciling last year. As for recent reports he's NOT in the know about her pregnancy ... he denies that, and certainly SEEMS to be in the loop.

Russell Westbrook had a pretty exciting Tuesday -- his wife, Nina, gave birth to their son!!!

The NBA star also revealed his kid's name -- Noah Russell Westbrook.

Interesting choice considering Russell is technically Russell Westbrook III -- and while he chose not to make his son Russell Westbrook IV ... he went with a very similar choice.

It's Russell and Nina's first kid. They were married in 2015 after being college sweethearts at UCLA, where they both played basketball.

Bad news for every other female tennis player on the planet -- Serena Williams says she will be BACK to destroy all of you ... right after she gives birth!

Some have speculated the 35-year-old will hang it up after the baby is born -- since there's only 1 other player who's older than her in the Top 75 (it happens to be her sister, Venus).

But when we saw Serena in NYC, she shot down the retirement talk.
