How Deion Sanders' Five Children Ended Up In The Sports World

Published | Updated

Deion Sanders has worn plenty of hats -- and helmets -- throughout his career, which has seen him go from playing professional football to coaching collegiate athletes on the gridiron.

The thing is, the sports figure's been able to maintain a family of his own while managing his football career, which has seen him progress from fatherhood to taking on the responsibilities of a grandfather.

We're going to take a look at the lives of the football coach's five kids and see how they've each managed to bring something special to the former cornerback's life.

Deion Shares His Eldest Children With His First Wife

Sanders' life as a father began when he was married to his first wife, Carolyn Chambers, and they welcomed a daughter named Deiondra, who works in sports management, in 1992.

The football coach's eldest child gave birth to a son named Que in August 2024, and he told People the feeling of becoming a grandfather was "wonderful."

Sanders and Chambers' second child, Deion Jr., was born in 1993 ... and although he spent time on the gridiron in his college years, he's since gone into a career in fashion, founding streetwear brand Well Off in 2016.

Deion and Carolyn -- who tied the knot in 1989 and remained together for nine years -- ended their marriage in 1998.

Sanders Shares Three Children With His Second Wife

Sanders moved on from his first marriage when he married influencer Pilar Sanders in 1999, and they started a family of their own with the birth of their first child, a son named Shilo, in 2000.

Deion and his second wife welcomed another son, Shedeur, in 2002 ... and Pilar gave birth to a daughter, Shelomi, in 2003.

Sanders and Pilar remained together for another 10 years before they decided to end their marriage, which was officially dissolved in 2013.

The coach has since fielded rumors about a potential relationship with Karrueche Tran, although neither one has made an official statement about their supposed connection.

Sanders' Youngest Children Have Embarked On Sports Careers

Sanders has been in the athletics world for much of his life, and it looks like he's gonna be sticking around for a little bit longer, because his three youngest children have all embarked on careers in sports.

Shilo and Shedeur both played college football, and they spent a few seasons being coached by their dad at the University of Colorado-Boulder -- how's that for keeping it in the family?!

Shilo was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for whom he plays as a safety, and Shedeur, who plays quarterback, was picked by the Cleveland Browns.

Shelomi's made a name for herself as a college basketball player, and she's played for several institutions over the length of her career, including Alabama A&M University and Jackson State University.

How Gideon Davidson Earned A Place On Clemson's Football Team

Clemson University is well known in the sports world for its college football history ... and their new running back, Gideon Davidson, looks like he'll be a great addition to the South Carolina institution's squad.

The athlete became a local star in Virginia for his prowess on the field during his time in high school, and now he's preparing for his first season of college ball.

Here's a look at the hard work and dedication the football star put in toward getting ready to compete in the NCAA.

Davidson Was Born in Ghana

Although he calls Lynchburg, Virginia his home, Davidson's story begins in Ghana, where he was born in 2006, according to Cardinal News.

The athlete's father passed away prior to his birth, and although his mother and her six children moved in with their uncle, the kids were eventually sent to an orphanage after his uncle was no longer able to care for them.

Davidson remained in the orphanage for roughly a year before he and two of his brothers were adopted by a family in the United States.

However, their first adoptive family eventually gave the brothers up ... and they were taken in by the Davidson family.

Gideon Established Himself as an Athlete at an Early Age

The athlete -- whose previous adoptive family had placed more of an emphasis on soccer than football -- began his career on the gridiron not long after he was adopted by the Davidsons.

He quickly made a name for himself as an athlete, and he helped Liberty Christian Academy finish out their 2021 season with a 13-1 record -- not bad for a freshman!

Davidson earned himself numerous accolades over the course of his high school career, and he made it onto the 2025 ESPN 300 list, where he was the third-highest ranking running back.

And in case his football career wasn't impressive enough, the athlete was a member of his high school's track and field team, where he competed in several events, including the 200-meter dash and shot put, according to 247 Sports.

The Athlete Received Offers From Numerous Schools

Davidson's work on the field garnered him plenty of attention from schools with prominent football programs, and he received offers from institutions like USC, Penn State and Virginia Tech, among others.

After fielding offers from various universities, the athlete decided to head to Clemson, and he committed to the university in 2023.

Davidson told ESPN he felt the school's coaching staff were "great guys" and he greatly enjoyed being around them.

He added, while the recruiting process had been "stressing at times," he felt it was the right time to "get ready" for Clemson.
