Looks like WGN has some serious atoning to do today ... because for some reason, the network used infamous NAZI imagery for a news story about Yom Kippur.

Check out the graphic used during a segment about the Jewish high holiday on Tuesday night. That yellow star look familar???

Yeah, it's because it's the same yellow badge the Nazis forced the Jews to wear during the 1940s.

A Chicago lawyer took notice and called out WGN -- writing, "Holy crap, @WGNNews, this is your stock photo for a Jewish holiday?? Nobody thought that's a bad choice of photo?"

WGN responded, "We are truly sorry for inadvertently using an offensive image in our story. We apologize and deeply regret the error."

You'd think having the name Andy Samberg has its perks -- after all, the 'SNL' vet just hosted the Emmys -- but it's turned a namesake into a target of hate.

Andy Sandberg, a Tony Award-winning producer, says his Twitter account has been flooded since Sunday night by haters who went on a mission to trash Samberg for his jokes about Donald Trump and Kim Davis.

Turns out Samberg the comedian doesn't tweet from his own Twitter account ... he uses The Lonely Island account. The real problem here ... people don't know how to spell Samberg's last name.

It's been going on for years ... Sandberg says he gets Samberg's fan mail and pleas to audition for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." He's even gotten a residual check ... but he didn't open it.

Sandberg also says he barely watched the Emmys. Join the crowd.

"The League" star Steve Rannazzisi -- who copped to lying about escaping the 9/11 attack -- just got publicly ripped by Pete Davidson from 'SNL' ... whose firefighter dad was killed on 9/11.

Appropriately, Davidson was one of the first celebs to react to Rannazzisi's confession that he lied for years about being in the World Trade Center. Pete sarcastically tweeted, "It's ok @SteveRannazzisi people make mistakes ... Can't wait to meet my dad for lunch later."

Rannazzisi then stepped in a pile of s**t by replying, "thank you pete. i really appreciate it."

That's when Pete owned him with a simple, "I think you missed the point." However, he added the whole thing sucks because he thinks Steve is "actually a funny comic and I love The League. It's f**ked up."

Pete and Steve have since deleted their Twittter exchange.

James Woods can dish it out but can't take it ... is what the guy he's suing for defamation is now saying.

Woods is suing a guy who went after him on Twitter, calling the actor a cocaine addict. Woods wants $10 million.

But now the guy -- who has not been named but is only ID'd by his Twitter handle -- fired back in legal docs, Woods is "like a bully who can dish it out but can't take it."

The guy notes Woods has used Twitter to call people "clown" and "scum." He says Woods has fantasized about killing a man over an offensive shirt, portrayed immigrants as "tattooed thugs" and called Al Sharpton "a disgusting pig."

And the guy says when people disagree with Woods on Twitter, he says they must be on crack cocaine. Woods once tweeted an Obama supporter, "Well, put down your crack pipe, and re-read my timelines."

The "Twilight" star is down in Sydney and managed to "fit in a quick workout" while exploring an area called Barrenjoey Head ... high above Palm Beach.

Push-ups on the cliff, pull-ups under the cliff, and just plain posing -- all without those wimpy safety harnesses they used on "Bullseye" ... the adrenaline junkie reality competition he hosted.

Lena Dunham is eating her words ... saying she doesn't have an issue with Justin Bieber despite dissing his new single, "What Do You Mean?"

The "Girls" star put Bieb's track on blast for its refrain: "What do you mean? When you nod your head yes But you wanna say no..."

It seems Dunham interpreted the lyrics as a rape excuse ...

People jumped all over Dunham. One person scoffed, "Ha, there's literally no vice versa in Justin's song. What he sings is completely inoffensive. Don't try tie this to no means no." Another called Dunham out by dredging up the controversy with her sister: "Wow this is such a hypocritical tweet coming from you."

Dunham seems to have walked it back with a side-by-side comparison of her and Bieber, because nothing says "I'm sorry" like a similar haircut.

"Clueless" star Stacey Dash says Curt Schilling has the truth on his side, and ESPN was way outta line when it benched him for his controversial Muslim/Nazi tweet.

H/T BSO for pointing out Dash jumping to Schilling's defense. She tweeted that the worldwide leader actually owes the ex Red Sox ace an apology. As Dash put it ... "So, now we can't tweet things that are true?"

You'll recall Schilling posted a meme comparing today's radical Muslims to Nazis in the 1940s. ESPN immediately pulled him from its Little League World Series coverage.

Schilling hasn't had this kinda rotation support since Randy Johnson.

Rick Ross' gig at a Super Bowl party turned into a disaster because he's no social media guru ... in fact he sucks at Instagram and Twitter ... according to the company that paid him to headline.

Conexts is suing Rick for the Jan. 30 event that was scheduled to go down at the Scottsdale Mall Amphitheater. According to the docs, Ricky Rozay agreed to do some heavy duty social media promotion for the party and concert.

The company says he was supposed to do DAILY social postings for 2 weeks leading up to it -- but only did ONE post. Conexts says it was crucial for the event's success for Rick to reach out to his 13 million followers.

Rick got $55,000 up front, and was scheduled to get another $55k the night of party ... however, the event was canceled just a few days before, and they had to issue refunds.

Darnell Dockett's days of the five dollar foot long are over ... 'cause the San Francisco 49ers star says he's so disgusted by the Jared Fogle scandal he's never touching Subway again.

As TMZ previously reported ... Fogle -- Subway's go-to pitch man for the last 15 years -- has been charged with traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with minors and has struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

The controversy is obviously too much for Dockett's appetite ... 'cause he just announced he's changing his fast food alliance forever.

Tracy Morgan is back!!!!! He'll be hosting one of the first shows next season on "Saturday Night Live."

James Woods is suing a guy for something every celebrity has to deal with every day -- someone talking trash on Twitter ... and he's gunning for $10 million.

Woods is going after a guy who goes by the name of Abe List. Woods claims List trashed his good name several times -- with tweets calling him a "prick," "joke," "scum," "clown-boy" ... but crossed the line when he accused the star of being a "cocaine addict."

It's worth noting ... List has a paltry 2,274 followers, but Woods claims his 238,932 could have seen the tweet as well.

Kim Kardashian had a brainstorm Friday night to help Twitter, and the co-founder sucked up to her almost instantly.

Kim tweeted, "I just emailed Twitter to see if they can add an edit feature so that when you misspell something u don't have to delete & repost. Let's see ..."

A half hour later, Twitter big wig Jack Dorsey responded like it was a cure for cancer ... "great idea! We're always looking at ways to make things faster and easier."

Taylor Swift blinked first ... giving Nicki Minaj a full-on apology in an attempt to squash their Twitter war. There's hope for world peace, after all.

Taylor tried to dismiss the whole mess, saying ... "I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke."

Swift took the high road, and seemed to accept Nicki's explanation that her initial Twitter rant about a VMAs snub was not an attack on Taylor ... although she never explained who she WAS targeting.

Anyway, Nicki thanked Taylor for the apology ... and now everyone can play nice.

Katy Perry just weighed in on music's biggest bitch sesh -- calling Taylor Swift a full-on hypocrite for accusing Nicki Minaj of taking down a woman.

Perry thinks it's hysterical Swift told Nicki ... "It's so unlike you to pit women against each other." The joke, to Katy ... is that Taylor went for her neck with "Bad Blood" -- and proceeded to make a ton of cash off the song that's all about throwing shade at Katy.

Nicki took notice -- and favorited Katy's tweet.
