The shooter who targeted the NFL headquarters in New York and opened fire died by suicide by shooting himself in the chest ... an unusual move, and it appears he wanted his brain preserved to prove a point.

Investigators found a 3-page suicide note on 27-year-old Shane Tamura's body claiming he had CTE, our law enforcement sources say. CTE is a degenerative brain disease found in individuals with a history of repeated head impacts, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Police say the gunman wanted his brain studied and that's why he used the unusual means to end his life.

The New York Police Department officer slain in the NYC skyscraper attack Monday night was a married immigrant father of 2 young boys with a third child on the way.

Didarul Islam, 36, moved to America from Bangladesh and served as an NYPD officer for over 3 years, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed in a news conference. He was assigned to the Bronx and was off-duty, working a corporate security detail at the time of his murder.

Tisch praised him as a true hero, noting ... "He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice. He died as he lived. A hero."

Diddy is taking another bite at the apple ... because his legal team just filed a new motion for bail ... and they say he's the only man in America behind bars for hiring male sex workers to bang his girlfriend.

Diddy's legal team -- spearheaded by Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos --  just sent a new bail package proposal over to Judge Arun Subramanian ... rattling off a list of reasons why they believe Diddy should be released from jail before his Oct. 3 sentencing.

In the docs, obtained by TMZ, Diddy's lawyers argue most folks convicted on Mann Act charges -- Diddy was found guilty of two Mann Act counts -- are released from custody before sentencing.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... he was in Colorado on Saturday and drove through Nebraska and Iowa on Sunday before landing in New Jersey. He was in Columbia, N.J. as of 4:24 PM Monday ... and by 6:28 PM, a 911 center began receiving calls of an active shooter inside a building at 345 Park Avenue on 52nd Street.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed in a presser Tamura exited a black BMW carrying an M4 assault-style rifle in his right hand. He opened fired as soon as he entered the skyscraper’s lobby, shooting and ultimately killing NYPD officer Didarul Islam, a father of 2 with another child on the way.

5:46 PM PT -- An off-duty police officer and at least four other people are dead from the shooting, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

The gunman has been identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas according to our law enforcement sources.

Absolute mayhem in Manhattan ... there was an active shooter who injured multiple people before turning the gun on himself.

The New York Police Department tells TMZ ... officers got a call for shots fired Monday at 345 Park Avenue.

There are reports that one of the gunshot victims is a police officer and that the suspect was found dead from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound.

Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross' home is the latest celeb residence to get a visit from the cops over a burglary alarm at their house … TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … police officers responded to a possible burglary Monday morning after an alarm was triggered at the couple’s L.A. home.

The man officials say is the airplane passenger who got tackled on a flight after shouting "Death to America, Death to Trump" just took another hit ... we're told he's been identified and slapped with multiple criminal charges.

Prosecutors in Scotland tell TMZ ... the man in the viral video is 41-year-old Abhay Nayak, and he's been charged with assault, plus a violation of the United Kingdom's air navigation order.

We're told Nayak has not entered a plea yet and he's in custody awaiting his next court appearance.

Eleven people were stabbed over the weekend at a Walmart in Michigan, in what authorities are calling a random and unprovoked attack.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office said a 42-year-old man entered the store around 4:45 PM and used a folding knife to stab 11 people before being taken into custody. A sheriff's deputy arrived within minutes, with help from bystanders in subduing the suspect and aiding the victims.

Munson Healthcare confirmed all 11 victims were being treated at its regional hospital. Six were listed in critical condition, and five were in serious condition. The Sheriff said the suspect is believed to be a Michigan resident. The weapon used appeared to be a folding knife.

Tyler Boebert, the 20-year-old son of Lauren Boebert, is facing a misdemeanor child abuse charge following an incident involving the congresswoman’s grandson, according to a report.

According to records, obtained by Denver Westword, through the Windsor Police Department, the July 11 citation stems from criminal negligence where no injury or death occurred.

In a statement to TMZ, the Colorado Republican representative downplayed the incident, calling it "a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house." She emphasized no physical harm took place and said her family has already met with Child Protective Services to ensure the safety of all children in the home.

Micheal Ward, a British actor famous for his work in the Netflix series "Top Boy," is facing some serious allegations across the pond ... he's been hit with multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.

London's Met Police say Ward is charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault in relation to an alleged January 2023 incident with a woman.

The Met says Ward is due to appear in Thames Magistrates' Court in London on August 28.

The burglar then bends over to inspect the woman's figure with his flashlight. What's frightening is that she and her partner have no clue the stranger is right there because they're asleep, leaving them completely vulnerable.

10:28 AM PT -- Edwin Arroyave just shared home security footage to his Instagram in which you see the suspects jump over the gate at the driveway and storm the property. He says the idea for his security company came from past trauma of having a gun held to his head at 8 years old.

8:53 AM PT -- Teddi Mellencamp and Edwin Arroyave tell TMZ ... “We are grateful that everyone is unharmed. While we are shaken, we are fortunate to have the latest in home security systems, which scared off the intruders. Authorities were alerted and swiftly responded. We appreciate everyone’s heightened concern in light of recent criminal activities in our area, but we are safe.”

Teddi Mellencamp is dealing with some trouble at home ... because there was an attempted burglary at her Los Angeles pad.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... two people attempted to enter the premises of the Encino home belonging to Teddi and her husband Edwin Arroyave on Monday night.

The home's security system immediately signaled that intruders were attempting to access the property.

With the “Epstein Files” all the rage right now, Ghislaine Maxwell has been thrust back into the spotlight as she wages a legal battle to win her freedom from prison, but what awaits her on the outside is federal oversight that will keep her every move under a microscope.

TMZ did some digging and unearthed Maxwell’s 5-year post-conviction supervised release conditions after she completes her 20-year sentence unless she gets out of prison early on appeal. Maxwell's appeal argues that she should never have been prosecuted in the first place because of a previous plea deal between the government and Epstein in his earlier trafficking case in Florida.

Winning on appeal, though, is always an uphill battle for any defendant, let alone one like Maxwell, who's connected to Epstein – arguably the most reviled criminal in U.S. history. As you probably know, Maxwell was Epstein's longtime girlfriend and associate.
