American musician and songwriter Morris Day -- and the funky frontman for the Minnesota music consortium, The Time -- was in his mid-20s when he shot to stardom with jams like "Jungle Love" in the '80s.

His charting single "Fishnet" reached number 23 on the Hot 100 chart, and with his popular bops, Day dabbled on the big screen -- playing himself in Prince's 1984 movie "Purple Rain" and "Graffiti Bridge" (1990).

As far as TV acting roles -- he was on NBC's sitcom series "227" with Marla Gibbs and ABC's "New Attitude" with Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Kendrick Lamar gave Dee-1 the greenlight to be a "party pooper" last year ... and the New Orleans rapper is doing just that by inserting himself into the middle of the raging lyrical war between Joey Badass and multiple West Coast MCs!!!

David James, a former personal assistant to Diddy, is continuing his testimony in the disgraced rap mogul's federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial in NYC Tuesday, and he told the jury about a harrowing incident in L.A. involving another titan of the music industry.

James was asked about a 2008 incident at a Mel's Diner, a restaurant in L.A., involving former rap mogul Suge Knight (who's currently in prison for an unrelated crime). James described driving a Lincoln Navigator SUV to get cheeseburgers, accompanied by a man named D-Roc.

James testified D-Roc recognized Suge Knight at the location, and went over to talk ... but Knight apparently didn't recognize D-Roc, who said "I'm Biggie's boy," referring to slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. (who was murdered in the city in 1997).

Odell Beckham Jr. is rallying behind Chris Brown, who's been sitting in a UK jail cell since Thursday, taking to social media with a message of support -- "Free Breeeezyyy!"

The letter argues the arranged transfer of Billy and Tina to Tulsa to join five other Asian elephants will only worsen their suffering, and that they deserve to be released to a proper elephant sanctuary so they can "live their twilight years with liberty and dignity."

Although we had no legal obligation to do so, we still sought to find a way to improve the artists’ compensation and pay them directly – even after they had sold their royalty streams to a third party.

The spokesperson continues ... "Clearly, the artists’ legal counsel thinks they can use the threat of negative media coverage from the lawsuit to achieve their unreasonable demands.  Despite this, and consistent with our longstanding practice, we remain committed to working towards an amicable resolution."

Much of Salt-N-Pepa's music was pulled from streaming services last week, and it turns out the legendary hip hop trio has a serious bone to pick with Universal Music Group!!!

TMZ Hip Hop obtained legal docs filed by Cheryl "Salt" James and Sandra "Pepa" Denton demanding UMG comply with the termination of their contract, per Section 203 of the American Copyright Act, which returns SNP the rights to song recordings after time.

According to the complaint, UMG has refused to cooperate with the "Push It" rappers since 2002 ... not resulting in revenue loss, but preventing them from entering a new agreement with a new party to license the recordings.
