NCAA Championship Games Women Trounce Men In Ratings ... By 4 Million!!!

For the first time ever, the NCAA women's basketball championship pulled in more viewers than the men's game ... with Kamilla Cardoso and South Carolina's win over Caitlin Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes beating out UConn vs. Purdue by 4 million!!

The numbers for Monday night's men's contest between the Huskies and Boilermakers were reportedly just released ... and while the game did better than UConn's matchup with San Diego State a year prior, it got blown out of the water by Clark going head-to-head with the undefeated Gamecocks.

The men's game drew in 14.8 million average viewers ... and Sunday's women's game earned 18.8 million, shattering the record for a women's college basketball game.

A lot of folks will chalk it up to the Caitlin Clark effect ... but it's worth noting the women's tournament featured a ton of stars all over the bracket, resulting in historic ratings throughout the tournament.

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley even took a second to thank Clark for bringing more eyeballs to women's hoops after her squad completed the undefeated season ... which she certainly did.

Zach Edey and Purdue's effort against the defending champs did respectable numbers ... but the top game remains Michigan State vs. Indiana State in 1979 -- when two dudes named Magic Johnson and Larry Bird faced off against each other.

John Calipari Kentucky Was My 'Dream Job' ... But It's Time To Go

HIS MESSAGE

John Calipari says it's time for the Kentucky Wildcats to hit the reset button without him ... the longtime coach confirmed his departure from the program after 15 seasons.

Cal explained his decision to walk away from his "dream job" in a social media video on Tuesday ... wearing a Kentucky blue quarter-zip -- minus the school's logo.

Cal -- who's expected to be announced as Arkansas' next head coach this week -- said he and his wife took some time to reflect after the Wildcats' first-round exit from the NCAA tournament ... and ultimately came to the conclusion his tenure in Lexington ran its course.

"This is a dream job," Cal said. "It was my dream job. Anybody in our profession looks at the University of Kentucky in basketball and says that is the bluest of blue."

"The last few weeks, we've come to realize that this program probably needs to hear another voice, that the university as a whole has to have another voice giving guidance about this program that they hear. And, the fans need to hear another voice."

Calipari made it clear he was thrilled with his time at the helm ... but he's ready for the next challenge.

"There have been opportunities that have been presented to us, so we're discussing them as a family. I love coaching. I love coaching young people. I loved this year's team. I loved every day walking in. They've invigorated me. I love the chase for championships. I love bringing the kids together. It's what I do. It's who I am."

Cal thanked all those he interacted with over his career with the Wildcats ... especially the players and their families for what they accomplished on and off the court, his staff and the fans of Big Blue Nation.

65-year-old Cal finishes his time in Lexington with 32 NCAA tournament wins ... including four Final Four appearances and a championship in 2012.

Despite all the overall success, the Wildcats ran into rough times in the postseason recently ... earning just one tourney win since 2019.

"Again, it's been a dream, what we've been able to do," Calipari said. "But 15 years, time for another voice. And, you know I'm always going to be a fan. Thank you."

Bill Murray Proud Dad After UConn Wins Natty ... My Son's A Coach!!!

MURRAY MADNESS
X/@MarchMadnessMBB

It's like a scene out of "Groundhog Day" ... 'cause Bill Murray is celebrating UConn winning a national championship once again -- sharing an awesome moment with his assistant coach son right after Monday's big game!!

The legendary comedian's second oldest child, Luke, is quite the basketball guru -- he joined UConn in 2021 ... and was a huge part of the Huskies' offensive success this season.

Bill has always been supportive of his kid at his previous stops like Xavier and Louisville ... and was most recently spotted cheering for UConn during its second-straight title run this season, so it's no surprise he was present for the huge matchup against Purdue.

The "Ghostbusters" star looked like he was part of the team when they partied after the 15-point victory ... even hopping onstage to hoist the new trophy.

Bill was super proud of his son ... shaking him a little bit and sharing a conversation with him on the hardwood after the confetti fell from the rafters.

Bill had a bit of fun during the game, too -- after all, it was a pretty stress-free competition -- the funny guy took advantage of his time on the jumbotron by getting in a flex-off with Purdue alum and former NFL superstar Drew Brees!!

Luke has a bright future in the sport -- even UConn head coach Dan Hurley is anticipating his departure for a head coaching job at some point.

UConn's Dan Hurley Laughs Off Kentucky Job ... That's Not A Concern!!!

Not A Concern

It's safe to say Dan Hurley is comfortable with his gig at UConn -- the head coach got a case of the giggles when asked about job openings after winning his second-straight NCAA title on Monday ... flat-out saying the Huskies fanbase has nothing to worry about.

Hurley and the defending champs easily handled Zach Edey and the Purdue Boilermakers at State Farm Arena ... cruising to a 75-60 win to keep the hardware in Storrs.

Despite being in the middle of a tournament run, Hurley's name has been tossed around as a potential replacement for John Calipari ... who left Kentucky for Arkansas after 15 seasons on Sunday.

Hurley was asked about the coaching carousel in his postgame press conference ... and if we're taking him at his word, he'll be back on the UConn bench next season.

"I don't think that's a concern," Hurley said with a laugh. "You know, my wife, you should have her answer that."

"She'll answer that question better than I can, s***."

Of course, the Hurley fam is royalty on the East Coast -- not only is Dan a back-to-back champion coach, his pops, Bob, led the St. Anthony high school hoops team in NJ to 26 championships ... and his brother, Bobby, won two rings with Duke in 1991 and 1992.

Hurley even later joked that his wife would straight-up divorce him if he considered leaving the New Jersey area ... adding he doesn't have the money to support a split.

As for Calipari -- who won a title with the Wildcats in 2012 -- he's been pretty quiet about his future with the Razorbacks ... declining to address it while walking his dog on Monday.

UConn Fans Behave At Title Celebration ... Only Five Arrests

UConn says its fans celebrated the Huskies' national championship far more responsibly than they did last year ... telling TMZ Sports only five arrests were made at the Storrs party on Monday night.

Mike Enright, a university spokesperson, said in a statement Tuesday morning thousands filled the streets surrounding Connecticut's campus following the Huskies' 75-60 win over Purdue ... but overall, they were well-behaved.

Enright told us the fans cheered "respectfully, responsibly, and safely." He did add, though, there were a few issues ... namely a couple instances of vandalism.

"But they were limited in number," Enright said. "As of 1:15 AM, UConn Police made five arrests. On the whole, it was a very good night on the Storrs campus and the university looks forward to continuing to celebrate our phenomenal student-athletes, their coaches, and this incredible win."

Of course, it's a stark contrast to last year ... when UConn supporters went overboard celebrating their championship victory over San Diego State.

You'll recall, fires were set, windows were broken, light poles were torn down ... and a total of 15 people were thrown behind bars. An additional 16 needed to be transported to the hospital due to injuries, the school said.

In fact, the party got so wild, UConn made several changes in the leadup to this year's Final Four -- including removing light poles from its campus -- to keep the peace.

Seems it all worked out ... and now, the Huskies can really enjoy back-to-back dubs!

Dave Portnoy Wins $2.7 Million Betting On UConn Natty!!!

There might not have been anyone happier to see UConn win on Monday night than Dave Portnoy ... 'cause the Barstool Sports founder made over TWO MILLION DOLLARS betting on the Huskies to take home the national championship.

The 47-year-old put down $600K on Dan Hurley's squad to win the NCAA tourney just before March Madness kicked off last month ... and at the time, he said he was a bit worried -- as Connecticut was nearly everyone's pick to win it all.

But as UConn boat raced Purdue in the title game in Glendale, AZ ... those nerves melted away -- and his wallet got a whole lot fatter.

Purdue Alum Raheem Mostert I Gotta Get To Arizona!!! ... Hours Before Championship Game

Possible Homecoming?
TMZSports.com

NFL star and proud Purdue alum Raheem Mostert is hoping a miracle can help him get to Arizona in time to watch Zach Edey and the Boilermakers take on UConn ... telling TMZ Sports he wants to make a last-minute trip to the NCAA championship game!!

Mostert -- the NFL's rushing touchdown leader in 2023 -- chopped it up with our photog after touching down at LAX around 10:30 AM on Monday ... just a matter of hours before the huge matchup is slated to tip off in Glendale at 6:20.

We asked the 31-year-old what his plans were for the biggest game in Purdue hoops history ... and he revealed he's crossing his fingers he can get back up in the air ASAP so he can be at State Farm Stadium for the event.

"I'ma try to make it out there," Mostert said. "We're in LA, it's about an hour and thirty flight. I'ma see what I can do."

Mostert -- who played for the Boilermakers from 2011-14 -- explained it's gonna be tough ... especially considering he has to be back to LA in time for a broadcasting workshop Tuesday morning.

The running back told us he's excited to dip his toe into television ... and will learn from some of the top people in the industry to see if it's something he wants to pursue after his playing days are over.

As for the game, Mostert gives us his prediction ... and considering his alma mater, it ain't gonna shock ya!!

Baron Davis I Like Bronny's NBA Draft Move ... 'He May Be A Better Pro'

Smart Move
TMZSports.com

Baron Davis is in favor of Bronny James' decision to declare for the NBA draft ... telling TMZ Sports he thinks it's very possible LeBron's kid turns out to be a far better pro than a college basketball player.

The former Clippers star gave us his thoughts on the matter out at LAX on Friday afternoon ... just hours after Bronny said he'll test the NBA waters while leaving the door open for a return to school.

Davis said he could see Bronny getting picked up by an org despite a quiet freshman season at USC ... explaining the pro game simply might fit him better.

Caitlin Clark Draws Major Celebs to NCAA Game ... MGK, Sudeikis, Kelce

College basketball phenom Caitlin Clark reached major celebrity status at her Final Four game Friday night – drawing the likes of MGK and Jason Sudeikis to see for themselves what everyone has been talking about.

Clark and her fellow Iowa Hawkeyes teammates went head-to-head against the UConn Huskies during their NCAA Tournament matchup at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

As America's new favorite dribbler, Clark helped her team beat UConn in a squeaker 71 to 69.

Byron Scott Bronny Could Use More College ... Get Ready For 2025!!!

A Lot Of Pressure
TMZSports.com

Bronny James is doing the right thing by keeping his basketball options open ... so says ex-NBA player and coach Byron Scott, who tells TMZ Sports he personally thinks the young hooper should stay in school another year.

The 19-year-old USC Trojan announced his plans to enter the NBA Draft on Friday ... saying he will explore the interest from teams at the next level while maintaining his NCAA eligibility and entering the transfer protocol.

We spoke with Scott about the big hoop news ... and he tells us the former four-star recruit's smart by leaving doors open.

"Not surprised, not shocked," Scott said of James' announcement. "I think Bronny and, obviously, his dad and Klutch Sports, they've probably been thinking about this for a while and how to kind of go about it."

"So him entering his name in the draft and also in the portal -- I think he’s just weighing his options to see where he can probably get drafted, and then if he doesn’t like that and likes a situation where he can go play college basketball for another year, then I think it’s the best of both worlds. I think he’s in a great position."

Bronny will almost certainly have a new home no matter what he decides to do ... and if that's a different university, Scott sees LeBron's eldest son being highly coveted in the 2025 NBA Draft.

"You know what, to be honest with you, I think one more year of college wouldn’t hurt him," Scott added. "I think he has some great skills, there’s no doubt about that -- he knows how to play the game, he’s got a great basketball IQ, but playing one more year and being almost kind of featured, I think would really really solidify him in the next NBA Draft."

Scott even speculates on some schools that would make a great fit for him ... and also weighs in on the insane pressure Bronny has faced for having G.O.A.T. blood.

Travis At Practice

Travis Scott's current promo run through major U.S. colleges is causing BIG problems at the University of Texas ... it's triggering people's Astroworld trauma all over again!!

The "Utopia" rapper, and Houston native, happily rushed the Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium field Thursday with the Longhorns football team, creating tons of media for UT in the process.

UT's Instagram account captioned one of the posts, "POV: Travis Scott pulls up to practice 🔥"  ... highlighting a camera angle that showed players stampeding across the ground like a herd of cattle -- but some Texas residents are incensed by the content.

Seton Hall Win NIT Thriller ... Nearly Flood Locker Room Celebrating!!! 😅

SOAKED
X/@SetonHallMBB

Shaheen Holloway was nearly washed away Thursday night -- as the coach was drenched in his locker room -- moments after his Seton Hall men's basketball team stormed back from 7 down late to secure the NIT championship!

It was awesome!

#1 seeded SHU defeated fellow #1 seeded Indiana State in the NIT title game on Thursday ... in front of a mostly hostile crowd at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The game was tied at 39 at the half and remained close throughout.

Despite being up 7 late in the second half, Seton Hall mounted a comeback, taking the lead, and then surviving as Indiana State jacked up several potential game-winning threes.

The shots didn't fall, and when the horn rang, the scoreboard read Seton Hall 79, Indiana State 77.

Cue the confetti, it was time to celebrate ... and that's exactly what the Pirates did, both on the court, and in the locker room.

Head coach Shaheen Holloway, a former star player at SH, knew what was about to come as he prepared to enter the winning locker room. Sha even removed his watch (smart man!)

After unsuccessfully recruiting someone to walk in his place, Holloway opened the door ... and cue the waterworks. Coach was doused with two massive coolers full of what appeared to be ice water.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!🥶

There was also a touching moment on the court.

Indiana State star Robbie Avila, aka Cream Abdul-Jabbar, was devastated over the loss, and was slumped over on the court. Holloway saw Avila, and walked over to the breakout star to console him, urging the big man to keep his head up.

Seton Hall, of course, was snubbed by the NCAA tourney committee ... they should've been in the field, and the NIT win further cements it.

Congrats!!!!!

Bronny James Reps USC In Pickup Hoops Game ... Amid Transfer Rumors

Bronny James' college future is reportedly up in the air, but he's at least still repping his current team for now -- rocking some USC Trojans gear while balling out at a nearby school's campus.

LeBron's eldest son showed up at Loyola Marymount University's Burns Rec Center on Wednesday to work up a sweat ... and naturally, the students started to flock to the gym to see the 19-year-old hooper in action.

Bronny certainly didn't stray away from wearing a USC shirt and shorts during the pickup hoops sesh ... as well as his usual Nike LeBron shoes.

Our sources tell us Bronny was tight-lipped on the transfer rumors ... and elected not to talk about it at all.

It's pretty interesting -- there were reports earlier this week that Bronny was planning to hit the transfer protocol following USC head coach Andy Enfield's departure for SMU.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

LeBron addressed the rumblings after the Lakers' win over the Raptors on Tuesday ... saying he had no idea where the reports came from, but said he will support Bronny in what he decides to do.

FATHERLY SUPPORT

Given the news this week, a bunch of LMU fans posted on social media about Bronny potentially transferring to their school ... but as of right now, that seems like a long shot.
