The color change is underway right now at Madison Square Garden, where workers are pulling up the red carpet they laid down earlier today on a set of stairs outside the arena.

Our photog took this video and was told the carpet is supposed to be purple, not red ... hence the frantic change.

Darrell Sheets' celebration of life brought out former costars, friends, and family ... and, as you might expect, several notable items from the star's past.

Dave Hester -- Darrell's former costar on "Storage Wars" -- shared photos from the event ... taking photos with Darrell's son, Brandon, as well as Darrell's ex-wife and longtime friend, Kimber Wuerfel.

Madison Square Garden employees are being cut off from the outside world while setting things up for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's mega-bash this week ... because they're not allowed to have their phones while they work.

Employees who work in event production for MSG tell us ... they can't have their phones during the shift, and while they haven't been told why, it's presumably so they can't take pictures of the setup.

We're also told employees are wearing wrist bands -- which is out of the ordinary -- and they have to go through an extra layer of security when they show up to work.

An 8-year-old boy riding a jet ski with no parents in sight got stopped by cops in Florida ... police had harsh words for the father, who said his kid is "very proficient" ... and now folks are debating his parenting.

Police bodycam footage out of Sarasota shows the moment a marine police officer stops a kid on a jet ski ... asking him straight up, "Where's your parents?"

The boy proceeds to lead the officer to his father, and cops start questioning him.

The father is quick to admit he doesn't think his son is legally allowed to ride a jet ski alone at such a young age ... but he says he and his son have been riding jet skis for years and the kid is "very proficient."

Keanu Reeves went to bat for his old director ... but it wasn't enough to keep Carl Rinsch out of prison after the filmmaker was sentenced in his $11 million Netflix fraud case.

Here's the deal ... Keanu personally wrote to the judge asking for leniency for Carl -- who directed Keanu in the 2013 movie "47 Ronin" -- calling Carl an "exceptional artist" while acknowledging Carl has a tendency to self-sabotage. Keanu also praised Carl's unfinished Netflix series at the center of the case as "superb and visionary."

The heartfelt endorsement didn't carry the day, though ... a federal judge sentenced Carl to 30 months behind bars Monday after he was convicted of wire fraud, money laundering and other financial crimes tied to the failed project.

Ginuwine is heading towards marriage again ... 'cause TMZ has learned the R&B star is engaged to 28-year-old Miami realtor Jannette Escartin.

Jannette tells TMZ ... Ginuwine popped the question in Washington, D.C., a couple of weeks ago ... and she said yes.

The newly engaged couple tells us they're very happy and in love.
