Ryan Gosling Repeatedly Breaks Character On 'SNL' ... Cast Can't Keep It Together Either

Ryan Gosling continued his tradition of breaking character on 'SNL' ... and this time, the entire cast had trouble keeping it together.

Ryan hosted 'SNL' for the third time Saturday ... and just like his previous visits, he struggled to maintain his composure during most of the sketches -- much to the delight of the audience.

The cold open reunited Gosling with Kate McKinnon for the 3rd installment of their infamous "Close Encounters" skit ... where the "Barbie" actor could not keep from laughing as Kate demonstrated how "aliens" had observed Ryan's character's privates during their alleged abduction.

Hollywood's biggest movie stars mixed, mingled and munched at a famous hotel ahead of the upcoming Academy Awards ... and there was a heavy "Barbie" contingent.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were among the "Barbie" stars in attendance Monday at the annual Oscar nominees luncheon at The Beverly Hilton.

Billie Eilish and Finneas were also representing "Barbie" in Bev Hills ... the musicians are up for the Oscar for Best Original Song for "What Was I Made For?" and they seem to be the team to beat after their song won twice at the Grammys

"Barbie" director Greta Gerwig was there too ... rubbing elbows with other famous directors like Steven Spielberg and "Oppenheimer" honcho Martin Scorsese.

Steven's nominated for his work as a producer on Bradley Cooper's Leonard Bernstein biopic "Maestro," which is nominated for seven Academy Awards.

Bradley directed and starred in the film and he's up for Best Actor ... so naturally he made sure to chat with some of the other stars in his category, like "American Fiction" leading man Jeffrey Wright.

¡Un auténtico adelanto de los Oscars!

'Juno' Writer Diablo Cody Oscars Are Cool I Guess ... But Gimme 'Barbie' 💰!!!

Diablo Cody's all about the dollar bills, and she'd give up seemingly anything for enough of them ... including her Oscar!

The writer/producer talked about Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig getting snubbed for Best Actress and Best Director respectively in an interview with People ... and insisted she'd give back her Academy Award for penning "Juno" if she'd get a "Barbie"-level box office return.

DC basically told the mag that of course Margot and Greta got snubbed ... but who cares about that when you just made 10 figures at the box office -- before adding she'd "trade my Oscar for a billion-dollar movie right now, if I could flip a switch!"

Cody said she meant to disrespect to the Academy ... though it kinda felt like saying "no offense" after you've low-key shaded a friend if we're being honest. But, let's be real -- a ton of stars would make that deal for a billion-dollar movie.

Another interesting note ... Diablo took a stance similar to a lot of people online -- mainly that both Robbie and Gerwig got nominated in other categories -- so not a total snub for either star.

To be fair, Cody's a bit of an expert in this field ... 'cause she worked on the "Barbie" project that was meant to star Amy Schumer way back in the day -- though hers never quite got off the ground, saying it's a hard IP to make believable.

Still, lots of fans are outraged at MR and GG getting left out of their biggest categories ... with some calling the voting sexist and even celeb fans like Hillary Clinton weighing in.

Welp, it seems there's only one way to settle this ... vote below!

Ryan Gosling Addresses Oscar Nom ... Slams Margot Robbie Snub

update

3:20 PM PT -- Ryan Gosling just addressed the fact he was nominated, but Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were not. He told the NY Post ... "I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films."

He adds, "And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken. But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film."

Finally ... "No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement. Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film."

Ryan Gosling just got an Oscar nomination for his role in "Barbie," but the lead actress herself -- Margot Robbie -- was left out in the cold ... and yes, people are pissed.

The Academy Award nominations were announced Tuesday, and RG was on the list for Best Supporting Actor -- alongside Sterling K. Brown, Robert De Niro, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo. The black sheep in this group, you could argue, is Ryan ... who played Ken.

It was a goofy and even goofier performance -- and yet, Academy members seem to think he acted his ass off and is worthy of recognition ... something insiders predicted for months.

Now that it's happened, a lot of folks are happy for the Ry Guy -- but even more are angry on behalf of Margot ... who got snubbed this morning, and didn't receive an acting nomination herself. To be fair, there was a lot more buzz around Ryan ... but there's still outrage today.

The argument here for MR basically amounts to ... she freakin' carried that movie, and she showed some range in the titular role as Barbie, going through a roller coaster of emotions.

Some are chalking it up to good old-fashioned sexism/misogyny ... and are crying foul.

While Margot missed out, her costar America Ferrera didn't -- she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and 'Barbie' itself is up for Best Picture. It's just Margot who got screwed.

Did Margot Robbie Deserve to Be Nominated???

So, here's the question ... do you think she deserved to get an Oscar nod, or not???

'Barbie' Doll Inspiration Margot, Greta Deserved Oscar Nominations ... Something's Wrong Here!!!

The woman who the Barbie doll is named after is shocked Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig weren't nominated for Academy Awards ... and she doesn't understand the snubs.

Barbara Handler, whose mother Ruth created the famous toy and named it after her, tells TMZ ... she saw the "Barbie" movie twice and loved it even more the second time, and she feels there's something wrong about Margot and Greta not getting Oscar nominations.

While "Barbie" is up for Best Picture, Margot is not among the Lead Actress nominees and Greta didn't make the cut as one of the five Best Director nominees ... and folks are pissed.

TMZ INVESTIGATES

Barbara tells us she's sorry Margot and Greta aren't getting the recognition they deserve ... she feels they both should be rewarded for their work on the flick -- because it was genuinely fantastic. Frankly, there are many who agree ... objectively, 'Barbie' was well done.

Now, while Margot and Greta got the cold shoulder -- there are two acting nominees who emerged from "Barbie" ... Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera are up for Best Supporting Actor and Actress ... and as we mentioned, the movie is nominated for Best Picture.

Barbara says "Barbie" should win 'cause it was super popular and made a ton of $$$ at the box office. That's not always how the Academy sees it, of course, but that's how BH feels.

Remember ... Barbara's late mother is the woman who created the Barbie and Ken dolls ... naming the Barbie doll after her and the Ken doll after Barbara's late brother.

Barbara says her mom would have been thrilled the movie is nominated for best picture ... and she's sad Ruth isn't around to see the 'Barbie' movie phenomenon.

On the issue of snubs, though ... Barbara sounds about as upset as everyone else.

Oliver Stone Apologizes To Ryan Gosling ... Sorry For The 'Barbie' Barb

Oliver Stone has issued an apology to Ryan Gosling for blasting the actor for playing the role of Ken in the wildly popular "Barbie" film, while calling his own comments ignorant.

The legendary director posted a statement Monday on X, praising the movie for its "originality" and "themes" after he accused Gosling of accepting the role of Barbie’s boyfriend solely for monetary reasons in a recently resurfaced 2023 interview.

In his post on X, Stone wrote that he “was able to see 'Barbie' in a theater back in July and appreciated the film for its originality and its themes.” He added, “I found the filmmakers’ approach certainly different than what I expected. I apologize for speaking ignorantly.”

Stone also gave kudos to "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig, saying her 2017 flick, "Ladybird," was one of his favorites that year. As you know, Gerwig's "Barbie" was the highest-grossing film of 2023, raking in more than $1.4 billion at the box office while costarring Margot Robbie as Barbie alongside Gosling's Ken.

Stone made his controversial statements about Gosling during a June 2023 interview with City A.M. -- just weeks before Barbie was to be released in theaters.

Stone told a reporter Gosling was "wasting his time if he's doing that s*** for money," referring to "Barbie."

The director also slammed Gosling for being "a part of this infantilization of Hollywood." Stone added, "Now it’s all fantasy, fantasy, fantasy, including all the war pictures: fantasy, fantasy."

'Barbie' Cast Reunited, and It Feels So Good!!!

A "Barbie" reunion is news, given the insane success of the flick, and it happened in West Hollywood Saturday with the stars front and center.

Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, director Greta Gerwig and others showed up at the Pendry Hotel to celebrate the release of the screenplay book.

Lots of other stars hit up the event, including America Ferrera, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Finneas O'Connell, Mark Ronson, Jon Batiste and former Playboy centerfold/Hefner GF Barbi Benton.

As you know, the movie blasted through the $1 billion mark internationally and continues its roll as an inspiration to women around the world.

Robbie's production company produced the project and she's now one of the most -- if not THE most -- sought-after producer in Hollywood.

Ryan Reynolds, Mandy Moore Call Out SAG's Halloween Rules ... Really? No Dressing Up?!?

Ryan Reynolds and Mandy Moore think their union's rules over Halloween costumes this year are absurd -- which has forced SAG-AFTRA to clarify what they mean ... if only a bit.

The two actors are among the most famous faces to be calling out SAG's demand this week that their members refrain from dressing up as characters from struck movies or shows ... this as they enter their 100th day of picketing amid yet another stalemate in negotiations.

On Wednesday, SAG issued new guidelines about getups they would consider forbidden -- especially ones that actors might want to throw up on IG. Rather than dress as specific characters from splashy titles this year -- "Barbie," obviously -- SAG recommends choosing generic 'stumes ... like ghosts, zombies, spiders, etc. That, or animated TV show characters.

In response to the harsh restrictions, MM and RR fired away. Mandy wrote, "Is this a joke? Come on @sagaftra. This is what’s important? We’re asking you to negotiate in good faith on our behalf. So many folks across every aspect of this industry have been sacrificing mightily for months. Get back to the table and get a fair deal so everyone can get back to work."

Ryan had his own critique ... jokingly writing about his daughter, James -- "I look forward to screaming 'scab' at my 8 year old all night. She’s not in the union but she needs to learn."

More so in response to Ryan's sentiment, SAG has cleared up exactly who these "rules" apply to -- and it ain't the little ones. They say, "SAG-AFTRA issued Halloween guidance in response to questions from content creators and members about how to support the strike during this festive season. This was meant to help them avoid promoting struck work, and it is the latest in a series of guidelines we have issued. It does not apply to anyone’s kids."

They added, "We are on strike for important reasons, and have been for nearly 100 days. Our number one priority remains getting the studios back to the negotiating table so we can get a fair deal for our members, and finally put our industry back to work."

Of course, the reason these celebs might be feeling antsy is because of a reported setback in the latest attempt to work out a deal with the AMPTP ... which reportedly walked away from SAG due to their demands. The industry is still at a standstill, with no end in sight.
