It seems Nick Cannon is making his break-up with Mariah Carey official ... 'cause he appeared on "America's Got Talent" Tuesday night sans wedding ring.

Cannon was hosting a live episode of the show and his lack of wedding ring was extremely noticeable ... especially since he normally sports a pretty big sparkler.

We got Mariah out earlier this week ... and the 44-year old diva was also walking around without a wedding ring -- only she replaced the expensive hardware with her signature butterfly ring.

Heartbreaker.

Nick Cannon had that "single guy glow" Monday afternoon as he left his soon-to-be ex Mariah Carey's apartment in NYC.

A freshly single Paula Patton re-emerged back out on the scene Monday night, hitting up Craig's in West Hollywood for a post-Emmys bash ... the first time she's been seen out since her break-up from Robin Thicke.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are actually getting along -- way better than when they were together and loathed each other -- but TMZ has learned there is NO chance of a reconciliation.

We're told they are not only on good terms -- primarily for the sake of their kids -- they even went to dinner Friday in Tribeca and shockingly no one even noticed.

It's a big improvement from 6 months ago, when there was so much contempt they literally could not be in the same room together.

We're told it's all about the kids ... they're both committed to making the divorce as easy as possible on them. But -- let's just say one side tells us -- they will NEVER get back together.

Mariah Carey had a chance to spin her divorce with Nick Cannon, but she said it's simply "too hot" to talk.

Mariah was walking around NYC Monday with her nephew. As the video starts, you can see Mariah putting on a large hat she had just purchased.

But when the photog asked her to comment on her split from Nick, she pled the fifth ... citing the weather. FYI, it was only in the mid 80s in New York Monday.

Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart insist they're not back together, and Sunday night at the VMAs ... they went through great lengths to show they aren't ... which totally means they are.

As TMZ first reported, despite being photographed together last week ... her people swear they're leading separate lives and just friends.

So J.Lo and Casper walked the VMA red carpet separately, sat separately at the VMAs (except for a quick reunion for candy) and each showed up at Mastro's following the show ... but left separately.

We're told Nick believes his kids have already shown signs of emotional upset living with Mariah.

Our sources say Nick's MO is simple ... he wants to create an environment separate from Mariah that gives the kids a safe haven from the "chaos" at her home.

Nick is also telling his people he's deeply concerned about Mariah's mental health and believes her people don't care about anything but her ability to make money and pay their salaries.

8:47 A.M. PDT -- We're told the game was a Roc Nation charity event. Rihanna was scheduled to be there and Chris was supposedly a "surprise appearance."

Rihanna is ridiculous ... and thirsty like Moses wandering the desert.

She showed up in the front row at a charity basketball game Thursday ... eyes trained on ex-BF Chris Brown.
