TMZ spoke to #79 Jay Achterhoff -- who literally participated in Rudy's legendary quarterback sack ... and dude insists the events in the movie are "98% true."

Achterhoff tells us, "Rudy was carried off the field that day ... but not as a joke -- but because he finally got to play." He added. "You've never in your life seen a guy who wanted to be on the field more."

Achterhoff -- now a regional manager for a trucking company -- also says he's "disappointed that [Montana] wasn't more supportive of Rudy" during the shocking interview with Dan Patrick yesterday.

Montana -- who played on the 1975 Fighting Irish squad with Ruettiger -- appeared on DirecTV's Dan Patrick Show this morning and said of the flick, "It's a movie remember ... not all that's true."

After a dismissive sigh, Montana undermined some of the main storylines in the movie saying, "The crowd wasn’t chanting … nobody threw in their jerseys."

Montana acknowledged that the real Rudy did play in the final home game ... and did get a sack -- but stated that when the players carried Rudy off the field, they were "kinda playin' around ... I won't say as a joke, but playing around."

Shadix's sister Susan Gagne told The Birmingham News that the actor was "having mobility problems" and may have fallen out of his wheelchair and "hit his head in the kitchen."

Susan told the BN she believes the blow to the head caused his death.

Glenn -- who famously participated in the iconic "Day-O" dance in the movie -- was 58.

As for the Miami shirt -- dude used to play football for The U back in the day ... and was a member on the 1991 National Championship squad.

William Peter Blatty -- who wrote the book and wrote the screenplay for which he took home an Oscar -- claims the movie company won't let him inspect the books -- to figure out exactly how much the movie grossed. Blatty thinks he may have been screwed out of some of the profits.

In the lawsuit, filed Friday in federal court by Blatty's lawyer, Eric George, Blatty claims "The Exorcist" has grossed more than $400 million at the box office worldwide. And, he alleges, adjusting for inflation, it's the top grossing R-rated movie of all time.

Blatty is asking the judge to force Warner Bros. to open its books. And, he wants unspecified damages.

See, this Tulsa landmark -- The Admiral Twin, which opened in 1951 -- was playing "The Last Exorcism." It was also playing "Predators," but those aren't real -- so we can rule them out as a suspect.

Bill French, Tulsa Fire Department public information officer, told the Tulsa World on Friday night that investigators were still not sure how the blaze started.

TMZ contacted the Tulsa Fire Department to see if they suspected a demon, someone possessed by a demon or even Satan himself had something to do with the blaze.

Officials say the accident happened during a driving scene ... when an object went through the windshield of a car, hitting the driver.

An extra on the set described the accident to WLS-TV ... saying, "The vehicle was being towed by another vehicle ... the cable between the two vehicles broke. It whipped around and sliced through the woman's car and sliced through her skull, apparently. "

Cops have confirmed ... "The equipment pertaining to the stunt was impounded by the Indiana State Police."

The man behind the deal is Ron Newt -- who claims he was so close with Michael, and that the singer gave him special behind-the-scenes footage from Jackson's 1981 Triumph Tour.

Now, after seeing the success of "This Is It " -- Newt tells TMZ he's put together a 64-minute feature film from his footage ... which includes several candid moments involving MJ and his brothers. Michael can also be seen dancing, singing and directing the stage production.

We're told Lindsay's agent at CAA gave her the script for the yet-to-be filmed remake before she checked into jail and LiLo "really wants it."

But this might be a case of "if wishing made it so" -- a honcho at Imagine Entertainment, the company behind the movie, tells TMZ there is "no truth to this."

Legal pit bull Marty Singer has fired off a letter -- obtained by TMZ -- to lawyers for the two alleged pistol-whipped dudes, claiming their lawsuit is "false and fabricated" and if it isn't dismissed immediately ... Singer will file a mega-suit of his own.

Singer claims Bay was not even at the nightclub in question on August 24, 2008. What's more, Singer says Bay has never had a bodyguard, so the whole thing is bogus.

In a new lawsuit obtained by TMZ ... Joshua Stewart and Paul Klimczak claim on August 24, 2008, they were at Kiss Nightclub when they got into a scuffle with a man they claim is Bay's private security guard.

According to the suit, the man was intoxicated ... yet the club -- also a defendant -- continued to serve him alcohol.

The suit claims club security kicked the plaintiffs out along with the security guard, placing them in close proximity with each other. The dispute continued outside the club when the plaintiffs claim they tried to just walk away. It was then, they say, when Bay's security guard struck them in the head with a handgun, rendering both of them unconscious.

The plaintiffs were taken by ambulance to a hospital, where they were treated for broken teeth, broken bones, facial contusions and other injuries. They say Bay's security guard left the scene.

The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, does not reveal what started the fight.
