Shirtless Efron is holding court on the set of "Neighbors 2" in Atlanta, and based on this pic ... we're guessing the majority of his scenes will require minimal wardrobe -- at least if someone wants to keep a job.

De'Aundre Bonds, who starred in "The Wood," is recovering from a brutal attack delivered by multiple people ... and he says he has no clue who did it.

We're told Bonds says he was jumped in downtown L.A. Thursday around midnight ... beaten into unconsciousness, and left in the middle of a street. One of his friends happened to be driving by after the attack, realized it was Bonds and drove him to a hospital.

His injuries are pretty brutal -- requiring 8 stitches across his eyebrow, and 2 in the middle of his head. He was released early this morning.

Bonds is telling friends his attackers jumped out of nowhere, and he didn't see any faces. He did not call police.

De'Aundre's been on the comeback trail with a role in "Dope" this year and a few more on the way. He served nearly 10 years in prison for killing his aunt's boyfriend.

Brian Williams is back on track to be a trusted newsman, according to his friend and ex-CBS anchor Dan Rather.

Dan was leaving Craig's Tuesday night ... just a few hours after Williams returned to TV, reporting on the Pope for MSNBC. Rather thinks Williams has turned the page, and America's ready to forgive because everyone makes mistakes.

Also interesting in this clip -- Dan's reaction to the movie "Truth" ... which is all about Rather's own reporting mistake. Subject matter aside, he's clearly wowed to have Robert Redford portray him.

"Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray broke the news to us -- no, he's not rushing to do another biopic, but confessed the one person that could change his mind is Marvin Gaye.

Gray started riffing about the ex-Motown superstar the second our photog asked what he'd like to do to follow up his huge 'Compton' success.

Of course, there have been a couple of failed attempts to bring Gaye's life story to the big screen -- one was even supposed to star Lenny Kravitz.

So, will Gray use his 'Compton' clout to finally make a Marvin movie happen? Check out the clip.

Mark Wahlberg might be adding another athlete to his entourage ... 'cause TMZ Sports has learned that the A-lister is in talks with NBA star Caron Butler about bringing his life story to the big screen.

Butler has a brand new book out called "Tuff Juice" -- in which the Sacramento Kings forward details how he overcame a hard life as a drug dealing youth to make it to the NBA.

Wahlberg has been all over "Tuff Juice" ... writing testimonials and tweeting his support for the book since its release. Caron tells us it hasn't stopped there ... and that the two men have talked about a feature film adaptation.

"It's a possibility ... I've spent some time with Mark Wahlberg. He loved my story."

Mark would be the guy ... with sports themed projects like "The Fighter" and his HBO show "Ballers" already proving to be huge hits.

Caron says while he's not getting too ahead of himself about the possibility of a big screen makeover ... he does know which A-lister he'd like to play him.

"Michael B. Jordan. I loved what he did in "Fruitvale Station." I think he would do a great job at sharing my story."

Irwin Winkler -- who produced a slew of huge hits including "Rocky," "Raging Bull" and "The Right Stuff," is suing Warner Bros., claiming the movie company hid millions of "Goodfellas" dollars from him.

Winkler, who produced "Goodfellas" in 1990 for $30 mil, says in his lawsuit Warner Bros. has repeatedly told him there were no net profits from the flick, and it actually lost money ... despite the fact it grossed $275 million.

Winkler says the movie company concealed "a vast amount of the film's actual receipts."

The core of the dispute seems to deal with home video sales, which Winkler says totaled more than $140 million.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson tells us, "The allegations are baseless and we will vigorously defend."

Matt Damon is apologizing for his comments about diversity in Hollywood, and he's blaming "Project Greenlight" -- the show HE produces -- for editing down his comments and making him seem insensitive.

Damon says, "I believe deeply that there need to be more diverse filmmakers making movies. I want every young person watching “Project Greenlight” to believe that filmmaking is a viable form of creative expression for them too."

He also says the comment he made to Effie Brown -- that films need diverse actors, and not necessarily directors and producers -- were taken out of context.

"My comments were part of a much broader conversation about diversity in Hollywood and the fundamental nature of “Project Greenlight” which did not make the show. I am sorry that they offended some people, but, at the very least, I am happy that they started a conversation about diversity in Hollywood."

It's just a little odd, since Matt is an executive producer of 'Greenlight.' You'd think he'd have a say in how he gets edited.

Famed film critic Leonard Maltin has high praise for "Straight Outta Compton" ... and we're talkin' Oscars.

Maltin was leaving LAX Tuesday when our photog asked if the Dr. Dre flick will be a contender in 2016.

Leonard's a big deal in the movie biz ... he's a respected critic, so his opinion could have an impact.

Here's Shaq showing that no matter how bad he does something ... it's still pretty flippin' awesome.

The big fella teamed up with Randall Park -- star of ABC's "Fresh Off The Boat" -- and busted out a rendition of Katy Perry's "Firework." Shaq was shooting a cameo on the sitcom, and couldn't resist doing a reenactment of Randall's scene from "The Interview."

We'll refresh your memory, since almost no one saw the movie ... Randall played Kim Jong-un and sang the hit song with James Franco.

Check it out ... Shaq's vocal tour de force is at least as good as Franco's.

One of the 'Hobbit' villains got drunk, and knocked a guy out cold during a Comic-Con after-party, and ended the night in handcuffs ... according to cops and witnesses.

According to police docs, obtained by TMZ, Manu Bennett was hanging with a bunch of people in a San Antonio hotel room ... drinking and having a good time ... until he was asked to leave. Witnesses told police that Bennett -- who played Azog in the 'Hobbit' -- had too much to drink.

Before Bennett left the room he stared down the other guests, and when one of them dared to ask, "What?" ... witnesses say the actor unloaded a knockout punch to the guy's face.

The victim's nose was broken and bleeding. Cops showed up and went to Bennett's hotel room. At first he didn't remember the fight, but then claimed he was defending himself.

Bennett -- who also stars in "Arrow" and the "Spartacus" TV series -- was arrested and booked for assault.

Break time's over ... the 'Star Wars' crew is back to work on the next movie -- filming a destructive scene in London.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" started shooting last week ... and looks like the first scene centers around a crash -- complete with dead storm troopers around the wreckage. Ummm ... spoiler alert?

8:30 A.M. PST -- It has been revealed the victims are American pilot Alan Purwin and Colombian pilot Carlos Berl. A third passenger, American Jimmy Garind was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Two crew members from Tom Cruise's new movie "Mena" were killed on set Friday after a plane went down in Colombia.

Reports say the small twin-engine plane went down with 2 American pilots and a Colombian citizen on board. It has been used during production to transport crew members.

We do know Cruise was NOT on board. He had wrapped filming earlier in the day. There are reports the plane went down in bad weather near Medellin.

The movie is about a pilot who worked for drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Krysten Ritter is going to be burning up television screens soon when she stars in the Marvel series "Jessica Jones" ... but she was burning up the beach Friday in Cancun wearing a tiny bikini.

Marvel announced Thursday the show will premiere November 20.

Hopefully these photos will keep the fan boys at bay until then.

Great news for Ronda Rousey -- one the stars of the original "Road House" says he's PUMPED the UFC champ will star in the remake ... saying it's the perfect way to honor Patrick Swayze.

We spoke with Marshall Teague -- who played Jimmy (the kung fu bad guy) in the 1989 flick. Jimmy was the guy who had his THROAT RIPPED OUT by James Dalton (Swayze) during the lake fight.

Now, with Rousey tapped to star in the reboot -- Teague says Ronda is the PERFECT lead.

"Adding Ronda is a great idea. You don't want to try to rebuild Patrick Swayze. He was a unique talent and can't be duplicated."

Teague adds, "Ronda knows it's not going to be easy. Fans of the original might question her, but we all know she will do great."

As for Ronda, she issued a statement saying, "It is a great honor to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn't be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze."

Move over "Empire" ... the biggest Round 2 has just been revealed ... the new cast of the follow up to "Straight Outta Compton" -- "Dogg Pound 4 Life."
