Kobe Bryant's wife just lost one-third of her real estate portfolio ... unloading one of the three Newport Beach mansions Kobe gave her right after they split back in 2011 ... TMZ has learned.

We broke the story ... Vanessa Bryant listed the 6,000 sq. ft. Newport Beach property back in September for $3.75 million -- and she finally closed the deal this month for $3.22 million.

Kobe and Vanessa purchased the place back in 2003 for $2.65 million. Vanessa's mother Sofia was living in the home prior to the sale.

The house is one of three massive Newport Beach mansions Kobe gave Vanessa last year ... one month after she filed for divorce.

As for the status of Kobe and Vanessa's divorce -- the papers have not been withdrawn ... and one source tells us they're on and off so much it's hard to get a read.

Still, the two were acting pretty coupley in public as recently as New Year's -- maybe 2013 is the year of the comeback.

For a guy who earned the nickname Mayor Suave, Antonio Villaraigosa was anything BUT smooth when we asked him about the ongoing Charlie Sheen drama yesterday ... in fact, AV's response is downright laughable.

Villaraigosa was in L.A. for an event with philanthropist Eli Broad when we asked about Charlie Sheen's recent claim -- that he and the mayor partied together in Mexico for HOURS.

Of course, AV has been in media "spin mode" ever since a photo emerged of the two -- with Villaraigosa claiming he simply posed for a pic with Sheen during a harmless 3 minute encounter ... and nothing more.

Sheen called BS (and later apologized for calling BS, but never took back his story).

But when we asked about Sheen's claims yesterday ... the Mayor tried to change the topic in the most awkward way possible ... and then tried to mock the situation.

Jets nightmare QB Mark Sanchez better clean up his act if he wants his jersey to stay on Rex Ryan's arm -- so says the head coach, who claimed he'll ink a NEW number onto his infamous tattoo ... if Mark doesn't start playing better.

Rex was questioned about the tat during a news conference today -- and Rex joked, "Obviously, if Sanchez doesn’t play better, that number’s changing. That’s a given."

As we reported, Rex unveiled the bizarre tattoo while on vacation in the Bahamas last week -- a tat of what appears to be his naked wife wearing ONLY a Mark Sanchez jersey.

During the news conference, Rex insisted the tat's just a coincidence -- claiming he got the ink job long before Sanchez came to the Jets.

Rex said, "It’s funny. It’s actually a tattoo I’ve had for like three years ... I’ve been married for 25 years, and through my eyes, my wife’s the most beautiful woman in the world. So that’s what it is."

Charlie Sheen is calling out L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa ... claiming he was flat-out LYING when he said he spent ONLY 3 minutes with the actor in Cabo -- Charlie says the Mayor hung with him for hours, chatting it up and drinking with a bunch of hot chicks.

Mayor Villaraigosa told NBC 4 L.A. ... his encounter with Charlie was no big deal, saying, "I had a three-minute conversation and took a picture with him, that simple.... I take a picture virtually every single day, 50 times."

But Charlie says the Mayor is shoveling BS. Charlie tells TMZ ... the picture was actually shot in Charlie's hotel suite at Hotel El Ganzo, where Charlie had just opened his bar, Sheenz earlier in the evening.

What's more, Charlie says the Mayor hung out in the suite for WAY more than 3 minutes. Charlie says, "I memorize 95 pages a week, so the last thing that I am is memory challenged. We hung out for the better part of 2 hours, discussing his L.A. roots, his poignant bullet campaign as well as his 3 AM lawn-watering tactics."

Charlie continues, "He's a terrific guy, a great Mayor and he can drink with the best of 'em: Me. Quite a memorable night indeed."

You'll recall ... when Charlie introduced Slash and another band earlier in the evening at his bar, he hurled a homophobic remark. After TMZ got the video, we contacted Villaraigosa but he had no comment.

The Mayor's office told TMZ they would have "no further comment."

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is setting the record straight ... he's NOT BFFs with Charlie Sheen -- and he only posed for a pic with the actor because he's in the "picture taking business."

Mayor Villaraigosa went on NBC 4 L.A. on Saturday to explain the infamous "Cabo photo" -- showing him arm-and-arm with Sheen in Mexico, at the same hotel where Charlie dropped homophobic slurs.

The snapshot ignited a media frenzy and a wave of public backlash for the politician.

The mayor makes it clear in the interview he only met Sheen for a moment, saying, "I had a three-minute conversation and took a picture with him, that simple."

He explained further, "I take a picture virtually every single day, 50 times. And I took a picture with him ... I have never said no to anyone who wants to take a picture."

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan ditched the shirtless look that made headlines on Friday ... instead opting for a giant t-shirt on Saturday as he lounged on the beach with his wife in the Bahamas.

Big Rex set the NY tabloids on fire when he was seen sporting a tattoo on his right arm of his wife wearing only a jersey of embattled Jets QB Mark Sanchez.

World Series hero Sergio Romo was handcuffed New Year's Day at the Las Vegas airport ... TMZ has learned -- after allegedly becoming belligerent with a TSA officer.

Law enforcement sources tell us, the San Francisco Giants pitcher was detained by cops because he couldn't provide the proper ID to clear security.

We're told Romo then got into it with a TSA agent -- becoming "angry and aggressive." Cops then swooped in and cuffed him.

Romo was taken to the police station at the airport , where he was cited for violating airport rules and then released. Romo was not allowed to fly following the incident, and was subsequently escorted off airport grounds.

According to law enforcement sources, Romo appeared to be under the influence.

Sofia Vergara's strapless gown lost a New Year's Eve fight -- but every guy in the party won when one of her glorious boobs popped out of the dress in the middle of the scuffle.

Sofia and her fiance Nick Loeb were partying inside the Miami nightclub Story when the pushing and shoving started -- reportedly with some people at a table next to theirs.

Sofia jumped in to try to break up the fight, got bumped to the ground ... and that's when her gown -- which was already holding on for dear life (below) -- released its precious cargo.

Charlie Sheen hosted the splashy opening of his bar at the hippest hotel in Cabo -- El Ganzo -- and it was all fun and games until Charlie hurled a homophobic slur at the audience.

Charlie was introducing several musical acts at the event this weekend, including Slash, who performed for the crowd ... which included the likes of L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Dr. Robert Huizenga from "The Biggest Loser." Up to that point, Charlie was the man of the party -- kissing girls, shaking hands, taking pics with everyone.

But during the intro, for some inexplicable reason, he yelled, "How we doing? ... Lying bunch of f**got a**holes, how we doing?"

Charlie, who is a partner in the bar, tells TMZ two things:

1. "I meant no ill will and intended to hurt no one and I apologize if I offended anyone."

2. "I meant to say maggot but I have a lisp."

So we gotta ask ...

Matthew McConaughey's wife just popped out baby #3 ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us ... Camila Alves gave birth earlier this morning at a hospital in Austin, TX. We're told Matthew was there, he was ecstatic for the new arrival (clearly) ... and even looked like he'd packed on a few pounds.

You'll recall ... the actor announced news of the pregnancy back in July, tweeting "Happy birthday America, more good news, Camila and I are expecting our 3rd child."

We haven't confirmed yet, but sources close to the situation tell us ... it's a baby girl!

FYI -- The duo met in 2006, but didn't get married until June 2012. They have two other children: Levi (4) and Vida (2).

Manny Pacquiao ain't retiring ... and he WILL fight Juan Manuel Marquez for a 5th time -- at least according to boxing promoter supreme Bob Arum.

Arum was outside Madeo last night when he dropped the bombshell boxing fans have been waiting to hear ever since Marquez KO'd Manny's face into the canvas on December 8.

Arum said Manny is vacationing in Israel, but when he gets back ... "We're gonna, I think, do another fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. That was a great fight."

And even though a lot of critics think Manny should hang up the gloves -- Bob thinks he'll have a decent shot in a rematch, saying ... "He ran into a really good right hand, and we'll see what happens next time."
