Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal Romance Rumor

Published | Updated

It seems that the co-stars of the new movie "Rendition" may have connected with a little more than just hefty paychecks.

According to OK! Magazine, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have been spotted hopping between each other's homes and hotel rooms! Reese, who separated from husband Ryan Phillippe on October 30, is seen in this photo taken two short weeks later, laughing and playing with Jake -- not appearing to be in any post-marital despair. By the way, she's not pregnant -- it's part of the movie.

TMZ contacted both Witherspoon's and Gyllenhaal's reps for comment, but neither calls nor emails were immediately returned.

Will Smith Gets All Cooked Up

Published

Breaking News: TMZ has learned that after his Oscar-nominated turn in "The Pursuit of Happyness," Will Smith is back on the streets again, this time making some major "drug" deals.

Specifically, Columbia Pictures has picked up the rights to Jeff Henderson's "Cooked: From the Streets to the Stove, From Cocaine to Foie Gras" about how one of San Diego's most successful cocaine dealers became an award-winning chef. The book was published last month by William Morrow.

We also hear that the same team of producers that brought the true-life story of Antwone Fisher to the screen at Fox Searchlight are also in the mix, namely Todd Black and his Escape Artists banner, who'll produce alongside Smith's Overbrook Entertainment production company, based at Sony.

Basically, here's the tale: Henderson racked up a sizable pile of cash slinging coke in San Diego, but that trade was cut short when he got pinched by the cops and was sentenced to 19 years in prison. Oddly enough, in the slammer, Henderson traded bent spoons for cooking spoons and found his life's passion: gourmet cooking. After winning early release for good behavior, Henderson worked his way up the ladder to become the executive chef at Café Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Word has it that Smith is producing with an eye toward starring in the film, should it get a green-light. It would be amusing to see what happens if Smith yelled "Line!" on the set: Would someone produce a script page with the forgotten dialogue, or a coke mirror with a rolled up C-note?

No screenwriter has yet been hired, but the studio's already on the lookout. May we suggest "Happyness" screenwriter Steve Conrad, served on a bed of wilted lettuce?

Female Idols in a Bunch over Barba

Published | Updated

Sources have revealed to TMZ that there's a feud a brewin' backstage at "American Idol."

According to our spy, some of the religious female contestants are none too fond of one Miss Antonella Barba, since racy photos of the off-key idol began popping up on the net.

No confrontation has erupted, but it's been downright chilly behind the scenes, with the idolettes now waiting to see if America decides to keep the photogenic Barba around for another week, heaven forbid!

When contacted, reps for "Idol" had no comment.

One Less Hollywood Premiere

Published

News broke today that Premiere magazine will cease to exist -- tomorrow.

Advertising Age carries the story that Hachette Filipacchi has yanked the plug, citing declining subscriptions of the venerable monthly on the eve of its 21st birthday.

Viz, "Premiere's paid circulation has declined slowly over the years, from an average of 616,089 in 1995 to 492,498 in the second half of last year, according to Harrington Associates and the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Even more ominous, Premiere sold 24.7% fewer ad pages in 2006 than it did the year before, according to the Publishers Information Bureau."

In keeping with the rich Hollywood tradition of giving former employees the bum's rush, folks were given 24 hours notice to clean out their desks.

Premiere had produced a laundry list of well-respected entertainment journalists: Chris Connelly, now host of ESPN's "Unscripted," Hollywood Reporter columnist Anne Thompson (who today defected to go to Variety), Newsweek's Sean Smith, the Los Angeles Times' John Horn, even Martha Stewart Living CEO Susan Lyne.

Cameron Diaz Can't Hold a Man

Published | Updated

It seems another one of Cameron's lusty links has found someone else. Just two short weeks ago, Diaz and "Blood Diamond" star Djimon Hounsou were spotted cozying up at Hyde nightclub. Djimon was spotted this week at Hollywood hotspot BOULEVARD3, kissing and cuddling with Baby Phat's Kimora Lee Simmons.

Djimon, a new face for Calvin Klein, and Simmons, the ex wife of hiphop pioneer/fashion guru Russell Simmons were at BOULEVARD3 to help Forest Whitaker celebrate his Oscar win, but according to our source, the smooching pair didn't care what was going on around them.

Poor Cammy -- first Justin, then Kelly, and now Djimon has moved on as well. At least she's got her angels!

Britney is NOT Wearing Her Wedding Ring

Published | Updated

There have been reports that Britney Spears has been wearing her wedding ring again, as she was seen wearing a ring last night as she stepped out of rehab to attend an AA meeting -- but TMZ assures you, the reports are false!

TMZ found a picture of the pop princess wearing her wedding ring and compared it to yesterday's ring. While the rings appear similar in style with three separations, last night's bling bling was a single divided band, while her wedding set is comprised of three distinctly separate rings.

Sorry, K-Fed!

L.A. Coincidental: Clooney vs. Crowe?

Published | Updated

BREAKING NEWS: Would the real sequel to "L.A. Confidential" please step forward?

TMZ has learned that the creative team and stars from the original "L.A. Confidential" are in discussions with Twentieth Century Fox-based Regency Enterprises about reteaming for a sequel to the Oscar-winning noir script.

No doubt, their discussions will cause some consternation to Joe Carnahan ("Narc") who's already announced plans to direct his own "L.A. Confidential" sequel: An adaptation of James Ellroy's "White Jazz" with George Clooney toplining as Det. David Klein. "Jazz" is the fourth book in Ellroy's Los Angeles tetralogy. "LA Confidential" was the third, preceded by "The Black Dahlia" and "The Big Nowhere."

Insiders tell TMZ that the Curtis Hanson and Brian Helgeland sequel being discussed wouldn't rely on the plot of "White Jazz," but simply pick up where "L.A. Confidential" left off: With Lt. Ed Exley (originally played by Guy Pearce), a rising star in the LAPD, and Officer Bud White (originally played by Russell Crowe), now an ex-cop who lives with an ex-whore. As of last month, Pearce was being mulled for a part in "White Jazz," but he downplayed the rumors at a press conference to promote the new Andy Warhol film "Factory Girl." Indeed, in Ellroy's "White Jazz," Exley's character actually has a very small part; in Helgeland and Hanson's project, it could potentially be made far larger. No deals have been made, but the discussions are on-going. We'll keep you updated.

'View's' Demise Greatly Exaggerated

Published | Updated

Rumors are swirling anew that morning TV's biggest girl-group -- Rosie, Elisabeth, Joy and Barbara of "The View" -- are breaking up the band. But TMZ has learned that it's just not true.

According to an In Touch report, the yenta denizens of "The View" might be set to go their separate ways -- O'Donnell to her own show when her contract ends in June, Hasselbeck back to E! network to host a "style" show, and most oddly of all, Behar into the hosting chair currently occupied by former "View" moderator Meredith Vieira on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." Vieira is reportedly signed through the 2008 season of "Millionaire." In Touch didn't specify what might happen to den mother Walters.

But a rep for "The View" put the speculation to rest. The report is "completely false" and that there's "no truth in any of that whatsoever."

"High School Musical 2" Drama Queens Will Fly

Published

UPDATE!

Apparently, it was a busy Saturday for both Disney Channel and reps for "High School Musical 2" stars Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Vannessa Anne Hudgens: Eric Feig, the lawyer representing all three of the renegade "HSM2" kid-stars, tells TMZ that managers for all three actors say their clients have now decided to fly to pre-production rehearsals on Sunday after all.

As was first reported here on Friday, eleventh-hour negotiations to return all three stars to the sequel had hit a snag over the talented teens' desire for participation in the expected-to-be-huge "back end" for "High School Musical 2" -- that is, its soundtrack and vast merchandising opportunities. Indeed, things had gotten so woolly, some of pubescent thespians were mulling not flying to rehearsals.

Reached by TMZ.com, Feig declined to comment on the current state of negotiations beyond confirming that all three kids will be in the air bound for Utah on schedule.

While Feig isn't talking, TMZ will keep you posted on whether there's any further action from this volatile teenage drama department.

Nick and Vanessa -- The Blow by Blow

Published | Updated

TMZ's sources have told us what happened at the exclusive The Plumm nightclub in NYC last night, where a steamed Vanessa Minnillo went off on her wandering-eyed boyfriend, Nick Lachey.

Nick and Vanessa arrived to catch Joey McIntyre's impromtu performance at the club, in which he's a part-owner. At one point, Nick was seen with a Jessica Simpson lookalike sitting in his lap. As she got up, the buxom blonde bombshell signaled Nick to call her ... with a blatant thumb and pinky phone gesture. Vanessa caught it and and yelled, "What are you doing?" and a stern, "We need to talk!"

Vanessa then bolted outside. Nick followed and hailed a cab. Vanessa jumped in a different cab, leaving Nick standing alone on the sidewalk. He went over to Ness's cab and a heated exchange followed. The couple finally left in the same cab. A TMZ spy close to the twosome told us, "Every couple has their spats, they're not going to break up over it."

Mullally Dissed by "Will & Grace"

Published | Updated

Even before news hit that "The Megan Mullally Show" had been cancelled, Mullally's former "Will & Grace" co-stars wanted nothing to do with the doomed blabfest.

Sources tell TMZ that with her ratings already in the basement, Megan wanted to reunite the "W & G" cast on a special episode around her birthday, which fell during November sweeps. While Sean Hayes did appear in an episode that month, there was no getting Debra Messing or Eric McCormack aboard Meg's sinking ship. Iceberg!

In January, NBC cancelled the daily talker after airing fewer than 75 episodes. Although Messing guested on an early episode in September, Eric never did. Get out!

An NBC rep told TMZ, "We invited several people for that show. Some people could make it, others couldn't because of schedules."

Miss Nevada Cashes In Like Britney

Published | Updated

Where can you lose your crown and your job, get paid peanuts, and still stay in $25,000-a-night hotel rooms? Vegas, baby, Vegas!

TMZ has learned that disgraced Miss Nevada, Katie Rees, is shacking up in the Hardwood Suite in the Fantasy Tower at Sin City's Palms Casino Resort (Justin Timberlake was a recent guest), and she even had a slumber party there -- with her girlfriends (look out!)! Of course, the suite costs a steep $25,000 per night, which leads us to ask, where's the money coming from?

For her recent Miss Jet Las Vegas gig at the Mirage, Rees was rumored to have been paid a paltry $5,000, which would get her about four-and-a-half hours in the room (not including taxes and fees), which happens to have its own basketball court. We're told that she got a "special rate," but didn't get the room completely comped.

Meanwhile, Britney Spears is back in Vegas -- this time, it seems, to work. She's holed up at the Palms as well, in a Sky Villa in the Fantasy Tower, which also goes for $25K per night. Brit doesn't even have to leave the hotel to lay down tracks -- there's a recording studio in the Tower.

Britney can afford it -- she's worth nine figures. But Katie Rees? Bet Tara Conner wishes she'd done a little more to push Trump over the edge.

Stone Casts Mom Aside, Flakes

Published | Updated

Joss Stone recently canned her mother as her manager, but the 19-year-old may be in over her head by trying to handle her career by herself. A TMZ source tells us that Joss "has been much more flakey lately since her mother was taken out of the loop."

Stone recently canceled at the last minute on several interviews, blaming a case of bronchitis. A TMZ staffer attended her concert at the House of Blues in Los Angeles last night, reporting that Joss was "Unbelievable! She did have a rattling sound and coughed every so often, but her performance couldn't have been better."

Joss proved her performance skills, but it's unknown if she'll be able to cope with the business side without mom.

Is Courtney "Idol's" Next Train Wreck?

Published | Updated

"American Idol's" Paula Abdul is as loopy as any big-time TV personality can hope to be (and still keep her job), but could "Idol" producers be replacing her with the one musical mama who's actually more likely to make an utter idiot of herself on national TV -- Courtney Love?

Love told Usmagazine.com that she's been approached by "Idol" producers to appear on the show. What's more, a source says that Love might actually be supplanting Abdul, whose tenure as a judge has been studded with all manner of wackiness and scandal, including a well-traveled bout of nuttiness in local TV interviews last month. "Idol's" reps had no comment.

That's just child's play for Courtney, a woman who's done and displayed just about everything under the sun and her shirt to humiliate herself, including (allegedly) flinging mike stands, baring her breasts, and melting down at roasts. (Her reps could not be reached for comment.) And with a national stage of 30 million viewers a week, who knows what insanity awaits?

Sienna: No Sex with Diddy, Hayden

Published | Updated

It's no Diddy for Sienna Miller. Sources tell TMZ that, contrary to reports, Sienna Miller isn't involved in any way with P. Diddy, and that her very convincing sex scene with Hayden Christensen in "Factory Girl" is just the result of good acting.

TMZ is told that there is "no sexual anything" between Sienna and Diddy, and, in fact, that Sienna has never actually been out alone with the rapper. Diddy, according to a source, showed up to the Manhattan premiere of "Factory Girl" and when Sienna went to the bathroom, he was waiting around, "lurking outside the men's room," but Sienna managed to sneak out from under his nose. Her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, says the pair are "just friends" and that when he showed up to Bungalow 8 later on that night, Sienna wasn't there.

Meanwhile, rumors that Miller and co-star Christensen actually had sex while filming a scene in "Factory Girl" just aren't true. As real as it may look, we're told it's just not so. "When you do a love scene," says her rep, "there is a minimum of five people in the room. There's no real sex and the scene proves she knows how to give a good performance."
