It's a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma -- who did Britney Spears go out to dinner with on Valentine's Day? The even bigger mystery ... why are Britney's reps so secretive about it?

The photos of Britney and John Doe #1 surfaced late last week and TMZ reached out to Britney's reps multiple times over the course of 3 days -- asking a simple question ... who's the dude?

Each time, we were told they were trying to figure it out and would get back to us.

After 8 calls ... we're starting to think they don't want to tell us ... so we're turning to you. If you have any information as to the true identity of Doe #1, please contact TMZ immediately.

John Mayer might just be the luckiest guy on the planet -- because he spent his Valentine's Day alone in a dark room with Katy Perry ... and more importantly, Katy Perry's boobs.

J & K celebrated the holiday of love last night by hitting up the historic Vista Theatre in East Hollywood -- and the photographer who shot the pics tells us, he didn't see a soul enter or leave the theater the entire time they were in there ... roughly two hours.

The theater wouldn't comment on whether John and Katy rented the place out for their own personal use -- but that's the only logical conclusion. Pretty baller.

"A Good Day to Die Hard" is the only movie currently playing at Vista ... but it's unclear if that's what the couple actually watched ... because Katy was spotted leaving the place holding a DVD.

The way to Rihanna's heart ... is through her lungs ... 'cause the pop star says she got a WHOLE LOTTA MARIJUANA for Valentine's Day ... and she's totally stoked.

Rihanna posted her V-Day haul on Instagram ... along with the message, "Roses are green! Somebody knows how to make me happy."

We already know Chris Brown has a California weed card -- so he can buy for HIMSELF in CA -- but it's against the law to buy pot for somebody else.

Deena Cortese from "Jersey Shore" can settle down ... the doppelganger whose boobs whipped up a Mardi Gras crowd says she -- and her tatas -- weren't trying to impersonate Deena. Or her yabos.

The look-alike flasher in question, Ashley Austin, tells TMZ she meant no ill will toward the 'JS' star ... claiming, "I personally really like Deena, and had no intentions of giving her a bad rap!"

TMZ broke the story ... Ashley flashed a New Orleans crowd and several cameras -- pissing off the real Deena, who fears the video will ruin her chances of getting on "Dancing with the Stars."

By the way, Ashley claims she "had no idea" she was being recorded, which is funny ... since she's looking DIRECTLY at the camera.

Then again ... lots of people forget things during Mardi Gras.

Today is Valentine's Day ... a holiday that commemorates the day on or about the year 270 A.D. ... when St. Valentinus was beaten with clubs and beheaded by the Romans (look it up).

Deena from "Jersey Shore" says she's NOT a Mardi Gras booby flasher -- and claims she's getting a bad rap thanks to a sluttier doppelganger who looks just like her.

TMZ obtained video of a girl -- who looks EXACTLY like Deena -- partying her face off, lifting up her shirt and flashing her boobs down in New Orleans this week ... and people who witnessed the event first hand were convinced they were observing authentic MTV tatas.

But the REAL Deena tells TMZ it's not what it seems ... explaining, "I'm in Jersey right now ... plus if I were down in Mardi Gras I would NOT be showing off my boobs or any of my goods."

She continues, "I've been trying to work on changing my image especially since I want to be casted on 'Dancing with the Stars.' I get imitation is a form of flattery but this is definitely not the imitation I can ever hope for."

Fine. No beads for you.

Cee Lo Green is being sued over the 12, no 6, no 2 days of Christmas -- specifically, the lawsuit alleges his people conspired to fleece an unsuspecting promoter out of hundreds of thousands of dollars over concerts that were never going to happen.

Cierra Management Group claims in its lawsuit, Cee Lo's people approached them in November, 2011 with a proposition -- doing a tour called "12 Days of Christmas." Cierra would have had to front $100k per concert and it was too much money.

So Cee Lo's peeps went back and proposed to slash XMAS in half and do 6 days at $100k each, but it was still too rich for Cierra's blood.

So, according to the lawsuit, Cierra was offered a bargain basement Yuletide proposition -- 2 concerts for a total of $243,000 including expenses. It was too tempting and Cierra agreed.

But here's the deal ... According to the suit, the concerts never took place and Cierra believes Cee Lo's people never intended for them to take place. The suit claims it was all "a scheme designed to finagle funding capital for concerts they knew would not manifest."

Cee Lo is not accused of being part of the conspiracy -- although his people certainly are -- but he's being sued for allegedly refusing to perform the 2 concerts.

Cierra wants a whopping $14.2 million.

It was a Groundhog Day miracle yesterday when we bumped into "Groundhog Day" star Andie MacDowell ... who just happened to have hung out with another "Groundhog Day" star (of sorts) ... on Groundhog Day!!!

"Real Housewives of Orange County" star Vicki Gunvalson almost didn't make it to 2013 -- her body recently went barreling down a mountain like a rogue snowball ... which left her in the hospital with a nasty case of whiplash.

Vicki tells TMZ ... she was on a ski run in Park City, Utah just before the New Year ... when a snowboarder abruptly cut her off and caused her to tumble face first down the mountain, thrashing her neck around in the process.

Vicki managed to get back up and finish the course ... but as a precaution, ski patrol called an ambulance to take her to the hospital -- giant neck brace and all -- where doctors determined she had a bad case of whiplash.

Vicki tells us, she's recovering nicely ... and will follow up with an OC doctor soon.

World Series hero Sergio Romo was handcuffed New Year's Day at the Las Vegas airport ... TMZ has learned -- after allegedly becoming belligerent with a TSA officer.

Law enforcement sources tell us, the San Francisco Giants pitcher was detained by cops because he couldn't provide the proper ID to clear security.

We're told Romo then got into it with a TSA agent -- becoming "angry and aggressive." Cops then swooped in and cuffed him.

Romo was taken to the police station at the airport , where he was cited for violating airport rules and then released. Romo was not allowed to fly following the incident, and was subsequently escorted off airport grounds.

According to law enforcement sources, Romo appeared to be under the influence.

Sofia Vergara's strapless gown lost a New Year's Eve fight -- but every guy in the party won when one of her glorious boobs popped out of the dress in the middle of the scuffle.

Sofia and her fiance Nick Loeb were partying inside the Miami nightclub Story when the pushing and shoving started -- reportedly with some people at a table next to theirs.

Sofia jumped in to try to break up the fight, got bumped to the ground ... and that's when her gown -- which was already holding on for dear life (below) -- released its precious cargo.

Singer Frank Ocean learned an important lesson on New Year's Eve -- don't speed when you got pot in your pocket ... and now, he's paying the price.

Law enforcement tells TMZ, Ocean was pulled over in Mono County, CA for going roughly 90 in a 65 -- and when officers approached his black BMW, they smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from his vehicle.

According to law enforcement, cops searched Ocean and found a small bag of pot on his person.

We're told Ocean was cited for marijuana possession, driving on a suspended license, and tinted windows.

Ocean was released on the spot, but his passenger had to drive him home -- because cops confiscated Ocean's license.

Calls to Ocean's camp weren't returned.

2013 is already bringing huge changes for Lindsay Lohan.

Just two days after looking really rough in London (below) for New Year's Eve, the 26-year-old actress stepped out looking like a totally different person.

Unlike her NYE meltdown, Lindsay showed up at London's fancy Nozomi restaurant last night, glowing in a black fur jacket and a brand new face.
