Miley Cyrus was so overcome with emotion at the memorial service for one of her favorite 'Voice' contestants ... she couldn't fight back the tears.

Miley attended the Celebration of Life for Janice Freeman Monday at Mariners Church in Irvine ... where she poured her heart out and honored the former 'Voice' singer. You see Miley break down but she still manages to get a laugh when she says, "I was never her coach, ever. She was always mine."

Before surrendering the stage to her dad, Billy Ray, who led a rousing rendition of "Amazing Grace" ... Miley had some touching words for Janice, whom Miley was paired up with during season 13 of "The Voice."

Miley said, "I've learned more from her than anyone that I've ever gotten the honor to be in the room with, not just vocally, I should've gotten more lessons than I did, but she taught me everything that I know about love."

She went on to say, "And, to be here, and I had planned on singing a song for her, but just losing her is just too much for me. So ... my dad's gonna take care of this for me. But, I'll always be your sister, I'm here for you, and I'm here for your family, and Janice I'll miss you more than I could ever say."

Miley joined her dad in song.

10:40 AM PT -- Janice's manager tells us she's been battling a combination of bronchitis and lupus and the blood clot was actually in her lungs.

9:20 AM PT -- Miley just posted a photo of a rainbow with a tribute to Janice.

"The Voice" singer Janice Freeman -- one of Miley Cyrus' favorites on the show -- died Saturday, from an apparent blood clot ... TMZ has learned.

Janice's family tells us she was at home in West Covina with her husband, Dion, when she started complaining she couldn't breathe. Dion called 911 and had to perform CPR on her until paramedics arrived. She was pronounced dead around 5:30 PM at a hospital.

We're told it appears a blood clot had traveled to her heart. Janice had a slew of serious health issues, having battled lupus, cervical cancer -- which she'd beaten -- and meningitis.

The singer went deep into season 13 of "The Voice" back in 2017. Janice was on 'Team Miley' and made it to the top 11.

She and Miley stayed in touch after the show. Back in 2018, Janice posted a very emotional thank you to Miley for helping her out financially when she and her family were searching for a place to live.

Janice is survived by her husband and daughter. She was 33.

The Jonas Brothers called it quits in 2013, but over the weekend in Australia the trio looked one step closer to a reunion as they were caught filming something.

Naturally, the pictures are leading folks to think Kevin, Joe and Nick are one step closer to dropping some new music or hitting the road again, and there are other signs pointing in that direction. For example, earlier this year they rebooted their Instagram handle.

But, before any Jonas fans get too excited, there's also this to consider ... the filming took place in Sydney where the Australian version of "The Voice" tapes and Joe's a judge on the show, so it's also possible he wrangled in his brothers to help him out there.

Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan can learn a thing or two from their rivals Adam, Blake, Alicia and Kelly ... and that's according to an "American Idol" winner!

Nick Fradiani -- who won season 14 in 2015 -- watched the big premiere, and says the "Idol" judges have some work to do if they're gonna build up the same kind of chemistry as "The Voice" coaches.

Christina Aguilera can't be bothered to use her 2 feet when she has 4 perfectly good wheels to get her around ... even if she's only going just 200 feet or so.

Christina made the rounds in WeHo Wednesday night, hitting up at least 3 places with her entourage. The last 2 were The Roger Room and The Nice Guy ... hot spots that are practically next door to each other.

Well, the 'Voice' coach took a pass on strutting the 272 feet between the establishments ... 'cause that's what normies do. Instead, Christina made the journey in Christina-Freaking-Aguilera style.

Katy Perry is having some serious issues making it to the "American Idol" judge's table on time.

Production sources tell us Katy's almost always late to the audition rounds, showing up 10-25 minutes after call time. While it's been frustrating for show producers, we're told the other judges -- Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie -- haven't been all that upset.

There's a bigger issue that looms. We're told the judges are all solid and their chemistry is good. Problem is ... there's no comedic tension a la Paula/Simon or Blake/Adam on "The Voice." Katy is really fun, Lionel has a strong point of view and Luke's pure country. But they're not at each other's throats, either in a serious or funny way, and some honchos are worried that's the kind of heat that makes a show a hit.

As one source said, the editing of the auditions is everything. It could make or break the reboot.

A guy who says Michelle Obama invited him to a taping of "The Voice" is suing NBC after claiming the network treated him like a criminal, and now he struggles to find work.

Greg Duncan says The Office of the First Lady back in 2016 invited him to a taping honoring military veterans. He says he went through 2 security screens and an agent from the U.S. Secret Service told him to enjoy the show.

But in docs -- obtained by TMZ -- Duncan says he was later approached by NBC's security and Sheriffs and told to scram. He says no explanation was given and only that the Secret Service ordered him gone.

Duncan says he had a meeting set for June 17, 2016 with the Secret Service to get the low-down on why he was booted. Problem is ... Duncan, who says he's a commander with the U.S. Coast Guard, says he showed up to NBC's lot the day before for a commercial shoot but was told he's permanently banned.

Jennifer Hudson is putting out a bunch of not-so-sly disses against her ex, David Otunga, which he says violates the gag order in their bitter custody war ... TMZ has learned.

David filed docs this week calling out Jennifer for allegedly throwing repeated public jabs his way. In the docs, David points a Dec. 4 episode of "The Voice" where Jennifer is talking to Davon Fleming, one of the contestants. She makes a crack about her relationships never lasting.

In the docs, David also accuses Jennifer of shading him with an Instagram video where she's whispering about hate and jealousy. She never says David's name, but he thinks it's all about him.

He wants the judge to find Jennifer in contempt for violating the gag order.

Jennifer Hudson is returning to work while still in the middle of the custody battle with David Otunga, and if nothing else ... she's determined to feel cozy.

J Hud was in Manchester Thursday, wearing big puffy slippers, sweats and a knitted hat. She's there to shoot her second season as a 'Voice UK' judge.

As we reported, Jennifer lifted the protective order against Otunga on Monday ... allowing him to have David Jr. while she's working overseas.

"American Idol" and "The Voice" are locked in an arms war over which superstars will judge and coach on the shows ... and now 'Idol' is stepping up its game after taking 2 big Ls.

A source familiar with negotiations between 'Idol' and Kelly Clarkson -- on the 'Idol' side -- told us they won't be fooled again. As we reported ... Kelly signed with the NBC hit, after 'Idol' balked at her salary demands.

We're told 'AI' plans to keep its wish list of judges under lock and key from here on out. They think they became sitting ducks the second Kelly and Jennifer Hudson's names got out.

One Idol source said, in their opinion, "The Voice" went "into overdrive to lock down" both singers as soon as they got wind the revamped 'Idol' wanted them.

Kelly Clarkson just turned things around quicker than 'The Voice' coach chairs -- instead of judging on the new "American Idol" ... she's joining NBC's hit singing competition.

Kelly made the announcement by video chatting with Blake Shelton on his Facebook page. The superstar singers joked they'd been trying to put the deal together for years, but Kelly kept getting pregnant. She's already been a mentor on the show multiple times.

The timing doesn't seem like a coincidence -- TMZ broke the story, 'Idol' producers wanted Clarkson to be a judge when the show returns on ABC in March 2018. Our sources say negotiations were underway, but the sides couldn't agree on money.

We're told Kelly's ask was just beyond their budget. Instead, she's now landed at "The Voice" for season 14 ... which, by the way, will be running at the same time Idol returns.

Remember, astronomical salaries for judges are mainly what ended the show's run on FOX. As a result, we're told ABC's mindful of overspending.

Another 'Idol' alum, Jennifer Hudson, signed on this week for 'Voice' season 13.

Kelly Rowland's hanging out in Australia, and so is much of her ass.

Kelly put on her own kinda show on a beach in Sydney. Her one-piece was riding up a bit, but she's making it work. She's Down Under to judge the new season of 'The Voice.'

Celine Dion's guest appearance on "The Voice" has been a long time coming, but it's not going down exactly how the show originally wanted it ... TMZ has learned.

Our 'Voice' sources tell us Celine's been approached to do the gig a few times, but politely declined given the demanding schedule of her Las Vegas residency. We're told she was first approached to be a full-time judge in the rotating chair like Adam Levine or Blake Shelton, but since it's a several month-long commitment, Celine declined.

She's accepted an offer to coach since it only requires two days of filming. As for getting in the rotating chair in the future, NBC knows they'd have to cough up a lot of dough since she banks so much off her Vegas shows, so it's probably not going to happen. Regardless, "The Voice" will go on ...

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton got an altitude adjustment ... making a weekend getaway to the mountains outside Los Angeles.

The couple headed up to Lake Arrowhead with her 3 boys for some family time. Plus, Blake needs a place to rock his favorite fashion -- camo.

Not that there's anywhere these 2 can blend into the crowd.

Kelly Clarkson clearly has closed the book on "American Idol" ... her go-to is now "The Voice."

We got Kelly in NYC where a hopeful soul busted out in song for the OG 'Idol' -- her song, of course -- and Kelly seemed impressed.

Producers Ashley Baumann-Sylvester and Barton Kimball were thrilled to have won an Emmy for "The Voice" ... maybe Ashley more so than Barton.
