Steve Hirsch -- Vivid Entertainment's head honcho -- tells TMZ ... if a sex tape exists he's determined to buy it ... to make sure it never sees the light of day.

Hirsch tells TMZ, "After everything that Demi Lovato has been through, we would never consider distributing a sex tape with her. In fact, we would purchase it and either give it back to her or destroy it."

So why, you ask, would the Prez of Vivid do something so counterintuitive?

Hirsch is a recovering addict and even owns Hollywood Recovery Services, an outpatient recovery center.

As TMZ first reported, Ashton threatened legal war last week -- claiming Vivid Entertainment was exploiting his good name to peddle Brittney Jones' sex tape ... and he'd unleash hell on them if they continued to associate him with it.

Now, Vivid Entertainment fired off their own letter -- claiming it ain't their fault if Ashton's reputation takes a beating over his alleged relationship with Brittney Jones ... because they didn't start that rumor ... in fact, it's old news.

In the letter, Vivid denies any wrongdoing whatsoever -- calling Ashton's legal chest-puffing completely "without merit."

Vivid has previously offered Nadya Suleman $1,000,000 to do porn as a way to help fight off her financial troubles. They tried again for $500,000 and then offered her a job as a production assistant. Octo turned 'em all down.

But now Vivid is trying again -- this time head man Steven Hirsch has his eyes on the AVN Awards in Las Vegas next month. He's sent Nadya's lawyer a letter, offering her a job as co-host of their parties during the weekend's festivities. No word on how much she'd get paid.

We're told porn giant Vivid Entertainment will release the tape before Christmas ... and Langston and her boyfriend Adrian made off like bandits ... with an undisclosed six-figure sum.

As we previously reported, Langston's been through the wringer trying to shop 2 separate sex tapes -- one was a threesome and another featured your run-of-the-mill two-backed beast.

Ashton's lawyers have fired off a letter to Vivid Entertainment -- claiming they're specifically pissed over a press release for the video, which says, "Ashton's fans will undoubtedly enjoy seeing what the star himself may have experienced."

In the legal letter, Ashton's lawyers claim Vivid is infringing on the actor's "marketable celebrity identity value" -- and promise they will unleash a legal nightmare against Vivid unless they stop associating his name with the Brittney Jones sex tape.

TMZ has learned the gang from "Sister Wives" has been honored with a XXX homage.

Despite the fact that Kody Brown claims he and his wives don't have sex as a group, we're guessing Vivid Entertainment is going to take some creative license.

TMZ has obtained a letter sent by Vivid honcho Steven Hirsch, offering the couple the chance to get behind the lens. The idea, it appears, is to have the gruesome twosome helm skin flicks that will draw directly from the couple's own fantasies.

We're told both sides will get together in the near future and discuss the deal, and Spencer is definitely interested ... if the numbers are right.

Sources tell TMZ Langston and one member of the ménage à trois -- her boyfriend Adrian -- tried to sell their masterpiece to Vivid Entertainment head honcho Steve Hirsch earlier this week ... but sex tape partner numero tres threw a wrench in the deal.

We're told #3 -- who happens to be one of Langston's "BGC" castmates -- demanded way too much scratch for the tape ... around $200k ... so the deal went sour.

But our sources say Langston had an ace in the hole -- another sex tape with Adrian ... sans her financially demanding XXX cohort.

Vivid Entertainment honcho Steve Hirsch has sent Octo a letter -- obtained by TMZ -- offering her a job as a production assistant on XXX films.

Hirsch says he feels Octo's pain -- what with a foreclosure looming -- so he's willing to pay her $1,000 a day to become a member of his production crew -- a job where she would not have to perform sex or take her clothes off.

And there's plenty of work. Hirsch says he has several shoots scheduled for October.

One of the companies, Vivid Entertainment, wants both the girl-on-girl and guy-on-girl configurations -- but another company has already gotten a hold of one of the tapes and is angling for the second.

A source close to the negotiations tells us it's an all-out porn war to sign Tila and distribute the tapes.

Of course neither company can do anything without Tila's permission. We're guessing that won't be a problem.

We're told attorneys for Karissa and "Smallville" actor Sam Jones III -- her boyfriend/sex tape partner -- have fired off a cease and desist letter to Vivid head honcho Steve Hirsch ... which basically says Hirsch is screwed if he releases the tape.

As we first reported, Hirsch said he acquired the "extremely erotic" tape through a "reputable third party" ... and would "love to be able to release it."

Hirsch told us over the weekend that the Karissa tape is the most "extreme" celebrity sex tape he has has ever seen.

But the public may never get to see it -- TMZ spoke to Sam, who said, "Karissa and I are very upset to find out that Vivid had acquired any footage of us ... our legal team will take every legal action to stop this."

As we first reported, Vivid Entertainment has their hands on the Karissa tape she made with boyfriend Sam Jones III. When we caught up with Vivid honcho Steven Hirsch outside STK last night, he told us the Karissa tape was "definitely the most extreme video that I've ever seen, as a celebrity tape. There's everything you can imagine -- whips, chains, handcuffs. It's absolutely crazy."

But don't get too excited -- Jones has previously told us he and Karissa plan on having their lawyers but a block on the tape.
