Paul Walker Daughter to Live With Her Mom IF She Goes to Rehab

Published | Updated

Paul Walker's mom will back off her demand to become guardian of Paul's 15-year-old daughter, even though that's what he said he wanted in his will ... but ONLY if Meadow's mom goes to rehab.

Paul's mom Cheryl Walker went to court this week ... ready to do battle with Rebecca Soteros. Rebecca has a serious drinking problem, with 2 DUIs under her belt. Her drinking is why Meadow moved from Hawaii 3 years ago to live with her dad in L.A.

We've learned Rebecca and Cheryl came face-to-face and Rebecca grudgingly told Cheryl she would go to rehab immediately. Cheryl then promised she would drop her bid for guardianship if Rebecca successfully completed the program and agreed to drug testing afterward.

We're told Rebecca said being with Meadow was the most important thing to her, and she knew there would be an ugly court fight if she didn't comply with Cheryl's demands. So Rebecca started a detox program Friday, and will enter full-time rehab in a week.

In the meantime Meadow is staying with the Walker family.

Zac Efron No Worse for Wear After Downtown Attack

Published | Updated

Zac Efron was out and about Friday ... 5 days after his bizarre downtown L.A. fight that left him bloodied.

Zac was leaving a grocery store parking lot in the Los Feliz part of L.A. -- looking good. He was smoking a vaporizer and sitting shotgun as a buddy drove.

TMZ broke the story ... Zac and a man who claims to be his "bodyguard" allegedly ran out of gas on a freeway in downtown L.A. at around 12:30 AM Sunday. The "bodyguard" -- a convicted drug dealer -- says they were attacked by transients.

Cops tell us when they arrived on scene, Zac was bloodied.

Zac Efron Friends Believe He's Into Drugs, Not Sushi

Published | Updated

Zac Efron's friends are "worried sick" about the actor ... and none of them believe Zac drove to downtown L.A. in the middle of the night to get sushi -- they say there's no doubt he's fallen off the wagon again.

TMZ broke the story ... Zac ended up in an area of downtown L.A. that turns dangerous late at night, with transients and drug dealers out in force. Zac told cops his car ran out of gas, his "bodyguard" got attacked and when he went to help he got socked in the face.

Cops are skeptical, and it's echoed by Zac's friends. As one friend put it, "Zac's a loner. He goes out rarely and the idea of him driving for miles to go to some sushi restaurant in downtown L.A. after midnight is preposterous."

Several of Zac's friends tell us the so-called bodyguard is not a bodyguard at all. We've confirmed he's a convicted drug dealer who has been spending a lot of time with Zac recently ... despite warnings from friends.

There were a number of reports Zac went to rehab twice last year to kick his cocaine habit. But sources now tell us ... Zac NEVER went to rehab. Both times he went to a friend's house outside California and received private therapy --- but that's it.

Zac has lost friends in the last few months because they became frustrated that he was slipping off the rails again.

By the way ... on Thursday we reported what the "bodyguard" told us ... that he was viciously stabbed in the face, chest and stomach by transients. Law enforcement sources tell us ... when they arrived at the scene the only one bleeding was Zac. The "bodyguard" was just sitting there texting away.

Zac Efron 'Bodyguard' Claims Zac Saved My Life

Published | Updated

Zac Efron was a hero who risked his own life to save the life of his "bodyguard" -- so claims the bodyguard.

We spoke to the "bodyguard" who says he and Zac were "cruising" around downtown L.A. Sunday at 12:30 AM, when they suddenly ran out of gas and rolled to a stop at the bottom of a downtown L.A. off-ramp.

Later in our conversation, the man -- we agreed not to use his name -- said it wasn't so much "cruising" as it was going to a restaurant in Little Tokyo in the downtown area.

TMZ broke the story ... Zac told cops they had run out of gas and for some reason threw a bottle out of the car which shattered and angered some nearby transients. Zac claimed the transients attacked the man and as Zac went to help him a transient viciously struck Zac in the face.

He tells us ... the transients actually went after him with "a spear" -- like a shank -- and stabbed him in the face, stomach and chest. He says Zac then got out of the car and swung a vodka bottle at the transients to fend off the attack. He says Zac actually thwarted the attack and saved his life.

So the man says the bottle Zac claimed to have thrown out the window wasn't really thrown at all. He says Zac used it as a weapon during the attack.

BTW ... we checked, and the "bodyguard" has a criminal record for drugs and violence.

Zac Efron Attacked After Midnight in Downtown L.A.

Published | Updated

Zac Efron mysteriously ended up in a bad area of downtown L.A. just after midnight Sunday ... and ended up getting violently socked in the mouth by a sketchy transient ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We're told cops were on patrol under the Harbor Freeway when they saw Zac and a man he identified as his bodyguard. Cops saw Zac and the other guy in a full-blown melee with at least 3 other people.

After breaking up the fight, cops questioned Zac. He told them they had run out of gas and were sitting in the car. Zac said while waiting for a tow truck they threw a bottle out the window -- he never said what was in the bottle -- and it smashed on the pavement near a group of transients.

Zac said the transients confronted him and the bodyguard because they believed the pair hurled the bottle at them. Zac says 2 of the transients attacked the bodyguard and when Zac got out of the car to help, he got cold cocked in the mouth. Zac said, "It was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life."

You'll recall ... Zac mysteriously broke his jaw in November, saying he slipped on a pool of water in his home. Zac was in rehab twice last year for cocaine abuse.

The area where this occurred is rough. Cops are on high alert for drug deals and gangs. One source says Zac was "obviously intoxicated."

Law enforcement tells TMZ ... no one was arrested because they viewed it as "mutual combat."

We contacted Zac's rep ... so far no comment.

Paul Walker's Mom In Legal WAR With Meadow's Mom

Published | Updated

Paul Walker's baby mama has taken 15-year-old Meadow from the family home ... and Paul's mom is going to wage legal war in court today ... TMZ has learned.

Meadow had been been living with Cheryl Walker since August -- 3 months before Paul died. After Paul's death, Meadow's mom, Rebecca, flew from Hawaii to live with Cheryl and Meadow and planned to stay until things stabilized.

But TMZ has learned everything fell apart last week when Cheryl filed to become Meadow's legal guardian. Rebecca was pissed, and took Meadow to live at a family friend's house a mile away from Cheryl.

Rebecca has had a serious drinking problems over the last 6 years, with 2 DUIs under her belt. We're told that's why Meadow reached out to her dad several years ago and asked to move to his home.

And, in Paul's will, he expressed the desire to make his mom Meadow's guardian in case he died.

So Cheryl will go to court today in an attempt to win temporary guardianship of Meadow, but family sources tell us Rebecca will fight her tooth and nail. Our sources also say ... Cheryl is armed with evidence that Rebecca's drinking problem has not subsided and she's an unfit parent.

It should be interesting ... Rebecca has a legal advantage because she's the biological mother, but Cheryl is determined to protect her granddaughter.

Trace Adkins Wife Files for Divorce

Published | Updated

Lady don't love this country boy -- Trace Adkins' wife has filed for divorce ... after nearly 17 years of marriage.

Rhonda Adkins filed the docs in Tennessee, citing "irreconcilable differences."

According to the docs, the couple was married in 1997 and separated on Monday. They have three daughters (aged 16, 12, and 9). Rhonda wants primary residential custody as well as child support. She also wants alimony.

And this is interesting ... she wants to be named the sole beneficiary of Trace's life insurance policy.

It's unclear if the divorce is related to Trace's alcohol issues -- as we reported, the singer enrolled in rehab earlier this year after getting into a drunken fight with a Trace Adkins impersonator while on board a country music cruise.

George Lopez I Can't Hold My Liquor My Party Days Are Over

Published | Updated

George Lopez says Latinos are excellent drinkers who can really hold their liquor -- but he's not one of 'em -- telling TMZ his drunken debacle at a Canadian casino has convinced him to give up the hooch.

We got George outside Howard Stern's show this morning in NYC ... and when we asked about his arrest for public drunkeness in a Canadian casino last month he said he hasn't touched a drop since. No weed either.

But listen to the clip ... 'cause George seems to think TMZ holds the key to his sobriety.

We can't handle that kinda pressure.

Lil Za D.A. REDUCES Felony to Misdemeanor

Published | Updated

The L.A. County D.A. did exactly what we told you they would do ... this morning the felony vandalism charge against Lil Za was REDUCED from a felony to a misdemeanor.

As we told you ... the stated reason for the change is that the jail phone Za broke while in custody back in January was worth less than $400 -- the threshold for felony vandalism.

But there's a bigger problem -- our sources say Justin Bieber will be charged with misdemeanor vandalism for egging his neighbor's house ... and it would look real bad to go after Za for a felony, when Justin did $20K in damage.

As you know ... Za was arrested during the raid at Justin's house following the egging incident. Cops found ecstasy and once in jail he broke the phone.

We're also told Za will probably get drug diversion for the ecstasy charge and it looks like the case will be plea bargained next month.

High Times Hey, Man ... You Stole Our Name!

Published | Updated

The high-minded folks at High Times magazine are accusing another publication of bogarting its name ... and they've put their bongs down long enough to file a lawsuit to protect what's theirs.

High Times claims a new magazine and web site called Mile High Times has no right to use the name. High Times name drops a slew of celebs to prove the power of its brand ... Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Woody Harrelson and, of course, Cheech and Chong.

High Times claims Mile High Times is using a name too similar to its own and it's likely to cause confusion. High Times readers are probably easily confused, so they have a valid point there.

High Times wants a judge to shut down the shameless name grab ... plus it wants damages and attorneys' fees to boot.

A rep for the company that owns Mile High Times tells TMZ they need to huddle with their council before making a comment.

David Cassidy Ordered Into Rehab After DUI Plea

Published | Updated

David Cassidy's ass just got spanked by the legal system after pleading no contest to DUI -- the judge ordered him to enroll in a 90-day live-in rehab facility for alcohol abuse.

TMZ broke the story ... Cassidy was busted for DUI in L.A. back in January -- his third DUI arrest since 2010.

In addition to rehab, Cassidy was also sentenced to 60 months probation. He must also complete a 9-month alcohol program.

We were previously told Cassidy had enrolled in rehab last month. It's unclear if the judge will give him credit for his previous stint.

Cassidy had originally faced up to a year in jail -- so he should consider this a victory. Even if his wife still wants to divorce him.+

5:07 PM PT -- Cassidy's rep tells TMZ, the singer had already been enrolled in an inpatient rehab facility at the time of his sentencing today and the judge will be giving him credit for the 102 days he's served. We're told Cassidy will be transitioning into a monitored outpatient program (with a sober coach) early next month. The rep says, "David is very committed to his sobriety."

Paul Walker Asked Mom to Care for Meadow The Day He Died

Published | Updated

Just hours before he died in a fiery car crash, Paul Walker told his mother he was too busy to properly care for his teenage daughter ... and asked her to become the girl's legal guardian ... TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the Walker family tell us ... Paul approached his mother, Cheryl, on November 30th and asked her to retire from her nursing job to take care of Meadow full-time.

Turns out Walker had been overwhelmed with his work schedule and couldn't juggle that with his parental responsibilities. So in August -- 3 months before he died -- Meadow moved in with Cheryl, who was working full time.

Paul hired a series of nannies to care for Meadow when Cheryl was on the job, but none of them worked out.

So finally ... on the morning of his death, Paul called Cheryl and said he had given up on the nanny search and wanted her to be a full-time, stay-at-home grandma. Cheryl agreed, and Paul then called other family members to inform them of his decision.

As we previously reported ... Meadow's biological mom has a serious drinking problem and Paul never considered her an option. Meadow had been living with her mom until 2011, when she moved in with Paul.

Cheryl has now filed formal papers to make her Meadow's legal guardian.

Paul Walker's Mom My Granddaughter's Mom's an Alcoholic I Want Guardianship

Published | Updated

Paul Walker's mother just filed court documents asking for guardianship of Paul's 15-year-old daughter ... because the real mom has a serious drinking problem.

Cheryl Walker claims in her docs -- obtained by TMZ -- Meadow and her mom, Rebecca Soteros, are already living with her but Rebecca can't care for her daughter because of her alcoholism.

As we previously reported ... Rebecca has 2 DUIs -- one in 2003 and another last year. We're told Meadow moved from Hawaii -- where Rebecca lived -- to live with Paul 3 years before he died because of her mom's problems with alcohol.

Cheryl says she's more than qualified -- she's raised 4 kids, she's a registered nurse and is a loving person.

Paul had said in his will he wanted his mom to be Meadow's guardian ... so this is clearly in line with what he wanted.

One other note ... the legal docs say Paul's estate is worth $16 MILLION ... a lot less than previously filed legal docs estimating his worth at around $25 mil.

NY Giants Co-Owner I Believe NFL Will Punish Jim Irsay

Published | Updated

NY Giants co-owner Steve Tisch says he believes Colts owner Jim Irsay WILL face disciplinary action from the NFL over his DUI arrest -- telling TMZ Sports he believes the commissioner wants to "make a statement."

Tisch was out in L.A. Tuesday when he told us Jim's a "great guy" ... and he thinks his decision to enter a treatment center will make his life "a lot better."

But when it came to punishment from the NFL, Tisch explained ... "I can't speak on the commissioner's behalf ... I don't know what he's going to do ... but I feel he's going to do something."

"I think he's gonna make a statement."

FYI -- in the past 4 years, at least 3 executives from two NFL teams have been suspended by the league for at least 30 days because of DUI arrests. Because Irsay is an owner, he could face an even harsher punishment from the league.

Still, Tisch says the commish will most likely wait and see how the legal system handles Irsay's case before the league makes any decisions.

Justin Bieber DUI Defense ... I Wasn't Wasted My Foot Was Fractured!

Published | Updated

Justin Bieber has a solid explanation for APPEARING to be under the influence when he was told to walk the line ... he messed up his foot while skateboarding -- and you won't believe how Bieber threw his wealth in the cop's face during the arrest.

Justin has been charged with DUI in Miami Beach. Cops say Bieber tested positive for Xanax and weed ... his alcohol level was inconsequential ... .014.

Cops are hanging their hat on Bieber appearing unsteady as he tried walking the line in jail. But according to newly released documents, Bieber told cops he had a hairline fracture on his right foot ... caused by a skateboarding accident 3 months earlier.

And then there are some snotty comments from the Biebs. According to the new docs, Bieber told the arresting officer, "I'm 19 years old. I'm just out having a good time." The cop responded he wasn't driving around in a Lambo at that age. Bieber fired back, "Yeah, well, I bet you didn't have millions of dollars in your bank account either."

The arresting officer told Bieber it seemed he was having trouble driving the Lamborghini, to which Bieber responded, "What? I've been driving a Lamborghini since I was 15."

The case against Bieber seems about as shaky as his gait. It's pretty clear he wasn't drag racing as the arresting cop claimed. And another cop claimed Bieber reeked of booze, which doesn't seem possible.
