Lia Thomas Fires Back At Critics ... You're Using 'Feminism' To Hide Transphobia!!!
12:22 PM PT -- Former Olympic swimmer Donna de Varona joined Harvey and Charles on "TMZ Live" on Wednesday to talk about Lia Thomas' remarks ... and she said, in her opinion, there should be different categories for transgender athletes and biological females.
She compared the situation to sports like boxing and rowing -- which have weight classes -- telling the guys, "Sports is about fairness and rules, and it's about categories."
"Categories have opened up opportunities," the two-time Olympic gold medalist and women's rights activist said. "Let's acknowledge that the world of sport has bent over backwards to try to accommodate everybody, but in line with fairness and opportunity."
Lia Thomas -- the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I championship -- is firing back at her critics ... saying a lot of them are simply transphobes who are "using the guise of feminism" to hide their true, hateful beliefs.
Thomas opened up about her detractors in a lengthy interview this week with Schuyler Bailar -- the NCAA's first trans swimmer -- and she said it's just not possible to claim to be a feminist but to also not support her when it comes to competing against biological females.
"They're like, 'We respect Lia as a woman, as a trans woman, whatever, we respect her identity, we just don't think it's fair,'" the former collegiate swimmer said on the "Dear Schuyler" podcast.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
"You can't really have that sort of half support, where you're like, 'Oh, I respect her as a woman here, but not here.' They're using the guise of feminism to sort of push transphobic beliefs."
Thomas -- who competed against males but switched to female competitions after she started hormone therapy in 2019 -- received backlash following nearly every event that she won over biological women. Her critics argued she had an unfair advantage ... and should be forced to compete in a separate category.
The issue became such a big deal, it sparked legislators to introduce bills in parts of the country to place restrictions on transgender athletes.
Outspoken supporters of those rules -- such as former swim star Riley Gaines and even some of Thomas' ex-teammates at UPenn -- have called themselves feminists who are trying to fight to protect women's sports.
But, during her interview with Bailar, Thomas said she believes that's all just an oxymoron.
"I think a lot of people in that camp sort of carry an implicit bias against trans people," Thomas said, "but don't want to, I guess, fully manifest or speak that out and so they try to play it off as this sort of half support."
Bailar agreed, adding, "In order to exclude anybody in the trans category, you have to reduce women to reproductive capacity, which is, in my opinion, extremely anti-feminist."
Thomas said she'll continue to fight for trans rights even though her competitive swim career is over ... and implored those in the transgender community to trust they're not alone in the battle.

10:16 AM PT -- A statement from CNN disputes Don's claim he was blindsided, "Don Lemon's statement about this morning's events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter."
Don Lemon is out at CNN, after 17 years at the network, a move he says he was never given any heads-up was happening.
In a statement Monday, Lemon said, "I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly."
He continues, "At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play."
Finally saying, "With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best."
Don was on air Monday morning, without a hint that anything might be off, and ending his show with the words, "Bye, everyone."
The move comes just 2 months after Lemon was benched briefly for sexist comments he made about Nikki Haley, when he said she was no longer "in her prime" at age 51.
He was also recently caught on a hot mic making comments about Jon Stewart ... however, it seemed those incidents had both cooled off with the network.
Unclear if there was something more happening behind the scenes.
We covered it all in the latest episode of The TMZ Podcast, available on all podcast platforms.

Megyn Kelly Declares Victory ... Over Bud Light Trans Controversy
Megyn Kelly thinks she and those outraged over the Bud Light team-up with a trans woman scored a W ... 'cause there've been some big changes spurred by the parent company.
The veteran news anchor responded to some news that surfaced Friday -- namely, the fact that there's been a major reported shake-up within Bud Light leadership over the past couple weeks ... including the alleged apparent demotion of a key marketing exec.
Breaking in Beer Business Daily:@budlight Management Changes: Todd Allen Appointed VP Bud Light
— Jennifer Sey (@JenniferSey) April 22, 2023 @JenniferSey
Former Bud Light marketing VP Alissa Heinerscheid, who was at that post for not quite a year, is off the brand.
We understand she has decided to take a leave of absence.
“Today,…
Word is, Alissa Heinerscheid -- who, up until recently, was the marketing VP in charge of Anheuser-Busch's Bud Light brand -- has been replaced by Todd Allen ... Budweiser's global marketing VP. In other words, he's going to handle both brands, it seems, for now.
The other news coming out of this ... Heinerscheid is apparently taking a leave of absence. That's a big deal, seeing how she's been in charge of Bud Light since last June. She was on record as wanting to freshen up the brand and make it modern ... and more inclusive.
Now, in light of all this ... her decisions seem to have backfired. It's unclear if she's coming back to Anheuser-Busch -- or if this is it for her. Either way, her job's been replaced.
A statement from Anheuser-Busch reads in part ... "[W]e have made some adjustments to streamline the structure of our marketing function to reduce layers so that our most senior marketers are more closely connected to every aspect of our brands activities."
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
This seems to be addressing reports that Anheuser-Busch was out of the loop on the whole Dylan Mulvaney campaign ... a notion that Donald Trump Jr. recently backed.
The beer company adds, "These steps will help us maintain focus on the things we do best: brewing great beer for all consumers, while always making a positive impact in our communities and on our country." Megyn, of course, is reveling in this update.
Bud Light waves the white flag, ousting disastrous VP of Mktg, weeks after destroying its own brand by going woke on gender.
— Megyn Kelly (@megynkelly) April 22, 2023 @megynkelly
Let that be a lesson to other corporations.
We’ve HAD IT. https://t.co/KdB3mF4eBH
She writes, "Bud Light waves the white flag, ousting disastrous VP of Mktg, weeks after destroying its own brand by going woke on gender. Let that be a lesson to other corporations. We’ve HAD IT."
On its face, it certainly seems that Anheuser-Busch caved -- in addition to these moves ... they recently trotted out a very traditional Budweiser ad that caters to their usual audience.
Those who followed this from the beginning -- including Anheuser-Busch's initial wishy-washy statement -- probably saw this coming. They weren't very firm in sticking by their decision to partner with Dylan ... and now, it appears the head honchos might've not even been in the loop on it ... and had to deal with the fallout -- and, frankly, there's been a lot.
Reports, of late, have suggested Anheuser-Busch's market cap has, in fact, fallen quite a bit -- and there were even more reports of distributors being spooked by the response.
Of course, a lot of beer-drinking customers did not take the campaign well at all ... accusing the company of going "woke" and purposely antagonizing their core demographic for kicks.
Megyn was one of a handful of public figures leading that outcry, and now ... it looks like they got what they wanted. Bud Light -- easy to drink, easy to cancel too as it turns out.

Koko Da Doll, one of the memorable subjects from the recent documentary "Kokomo City," is dead ... and the film's director says she was shot and killed as a result of trans violence.
D. Smith -- director of the moving, award-winning doc featured this year at Sundance -- shared the sad news Friday, saying Koko, AKA Rasheeda Williams, "was shot and killed in Atlanta" Tuesday night.
She added, Williams' death makes her "the latest victim of violence against Black transgender women," -- but says she will "inspire generations to come and will never be forgotten."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Atlanta PD says cops responded to reports of a shooting just before 11 PM, and investigators found a woman who had been shot -- she was pronounced dead on the scene.
For those unaware, "Kokomo City" took home 2 awards at this year's Sundance Film Festival -- following Black transgender sex workers, including Williams, as they lived and worked in New York and ATL.
Williams, along with Daniella Carter, Liyah Mitchell, and Dominique Silver, accurately put a spotlight on the horrendous threats women like them face on a daily basis.
Sundance is also paying respects, saying "We were honored to have her at the Festival this year with KOKOMO CITY, where she reminded Black trans women, 'we can do anything, we can be whatever we want to be.' It is a tragic loss."
Williams was 35.

'Drag Race' Star Sasha Colby Brands Like Bud Light Understand Power of Queer Dollar
-
Exclusive
Bud Light, and other major liquor brands, understand the impact the LGBTQ community can have on their bottom line, so naysayers -- like Kid Rock -- will just have to get used to it ... according to Sasha Colby.
We got Sasha Thursday at LAX, and as the first transgender woman to win both Miss Continental and "RuPaul's Drag Race," she had a strong opinion about Bud Light's collab with Dylan Mulvaney ... and the backlash that followed.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
Sasha sent kudos to Dylan -- who partnered with Bud Light while documenting her transition -- for becoming a face of a corporation as huge as Anheuser-Busch. She says it's a clear sign corporate America really gets the importance of the queer dollar.
She says the folks angry about it are just making noise in an attempt to control corporate decisions. BTW, Sasha says most liquor brands regularly show up and support pride events, so this isn't a new thing.
As we reported, Bud Light got tons of outrage from non-celebs and celebs like Kid ... who posted video of himself firing gunshots into cases of Bud Light cans. Some folks have said they're opposed to the partnership because it's exposing children to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
In Sasha's eyes, it's all BS -- she says kids don't drink booze, and suspects these folks actually do like the transgender community, but are projecting hate instead. Sasha's had her own success with a major brand after she teamed up with fashion powerhouse, Alexander Wang, further proving her point.
Of course, Sasha isn't the only one with these sentiments ... former 'Drag Race' star Manila Luzon also had a lot to say about similar backlash against her Jack Daniel's campaign.

'RuPaul's Drag Race' Star Jack Daniel's Not Afraid of Boycott ... Haters Are 'Whiny Babies!!!'
-

Manila Luzon's two-year-old campaign for Jack Daniel's -- which features drag queens -- is drumming up outrage anew ... and she says those who are boycotting can cry in their corner.
The former 'Drag Race' star responded to the latest wave of indignation over an LGBT-friendly ad that the whiskey brand ran a full two years ago ... back in 2021. Apparently, some are just catching wind of it now -- and dramatically pouring their JD down the drain.
In one viral instance, a guy actually poured his Jack into a firepit ... and torched the sauce.
Luzon tells TMZ ... the fact these iconic American brands have been teaming up with the LGBTQ+ crowd to reach a new demographic is nothing new -- and she's eye-rolling over the fact that certain folks are just now figuring it out and screaming at the sky about it.
She makes a couple good points here. For one, ML says these companies have entire departments dedicated to market research ... and since they're pivoting toward inclusivity, ya gotta figure they know it's good for their bottom line to reach out to a new customer base.
In Jack Daniel's case ... that actually bares out in the numbers. Their parent company, Brown-Forman, reported huge boosts in sales of the famed liquor last year. Hard to say if that's due to their drag queen ad, specifically, but something's working for them dollarwise.
All the @JackDaniels_US drinkers should take note. pic.twitter.com/W0d9lMoSxq
— Travis Tritt (@Travistritt) April 6, 2023 @Travistritt
The other takeaway here is this ... there's options in America. If you're not happy with a brand, for whatever reason, you don't have to buy it anymore. Plain and simple.
Luzon notes, though, that if these people wanna boycott every company that runs an LGBT-leaning ad or campaign -- they might be out of products in the near future. She says this is the way the world is going ... and they can either get onboard, or be left behind.
Manila has teamed up with a bunch of other "RuPaul's Drag Race" stars to launch the Drag Isn't Dangerous campaign to combat anti-drag politics. They are holding a telethon next month where all the proceeds will go to charities that support the LGBTQ community and drag performers.

Donald Trump Jr. Guys, I Know Bud Light Screwed Up But They Back Republicans
Donald Trump Jr. is trying to put the fire out on the Bud Light outrage after they teamed up with a transgender person -- and his rationale is ... they actually support the GOP.
The ex-Prez's oldest son made his pitch on his podcast, "Triggered with Donald Trump Jr.," where he opened Thursday's episode with a plea aimed at the MAGA crowd ... and, presumably, anyone else who's vowed to cut Bud Light out of their beer-drinking regimen.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
He says he gets the indignation ... noting that, in his mind, Anheuser-Busch did indeed screw up by polarizing their key demographic with a stunt like this -- but he also says they deserve forgiveness considering some new intel he says he and his team have stumbled upon.
DTJ says Anheuser-Busch has actually donated a ton of money to Republican-led campaigns over the years -- including Speaker Kevin McCarthy's bid for Nancy Pelosi's job last year.
He also claims that -- according to some reporting he says he saw -- the whole Dylan Mulvaney move was actually the result of a rogue marketing employee at the company ... and that the higher-ups had no idea about it. In fact, Don says Anheuser-Busch is usually not as "woke" as its corporate counterparts -- and that they shouldn't be punished for this.
It's interesting that he's going to bat for the beer company, because they've actually taken a somewhat significant hit in the wake of all this -- reports suggest their market cap has fallen by as much as $5 billion in recent weeks ... although it's hard to say why exactly.
Some think it's a no-brainer -- the Bud Light ban appears to be working, and it's hurting their bottom line. Because of that, it seems, Don Jr.'s telling folks to stand down and buy again.
Time will tell if people will listen to him or not ... they're pretty fired up about this one.

'SNL' Alum Victoria Jackson Drags Homosexuality At City Meeting ... 'It's An Abomination'
Comedian and former 'SNL' star Victoria Jackson felt the need to drop a TON of white-hot homophobic takes at a local city council meeting -- going off on an obscure tangent about homosexuality before, ironically, calling on people to avoid getting brainwashed.
Citizens of Franklin, Tennessee got their chance to speak at a city meeting Tuesday ... which at one point focused on whether or not the city would hold a Gay Pride Parade this year.
When it's Victoria's turn to take the mic, though ... she starts by bluntly saying God hates homosexuality, among other things -- calling it "an abomination."
She goes on to say God also despises pride, reading a verse from the Bible as proof. Obviously, that word was used as the motto for the LGBTQ+ alliance long after any of that was ever written.
While it might feel shocking, this isn't uncommon for Victoria -- she's been going on homophobic rants for a while now, including in 2011 when she called "Glee" disgusting after they showed 2 men sharing an on-screen kiss.
Since then, most forgot about her 6-year run on 'SNL' -- she instead was known as the self-proclaimed conservative Christian that would bash homosexuality.
BTW -- Victoria ends her town hall speech by telling others to not get brainwashed ... yeah.

Caitlyn Jenner is furious with Nike over its new endorsement deal with Dylan Mulvaney ... saying the sneaker giant is going "so woke" by throwing money at the trans influencer, but not Olympic hero Allyson Felix.
The former decathlete weighed in on the social media star's partnership with the Swoosh on Thursday ... and her issue isn't with Mulvaney -- she actually commends Dylan for securing the bag.
Instead, Jenner is pissed at the move because Felix -- a seven-time Olympic gold medalist -- claimed Nike offered her a 70% pay cut and denied her requests for maternity protections after she got pregnant in 2017. She let her contract expire, and she went on to sign with Athleta.

Swimming Star Riley Gaines 'Ambushed,' 'Physically Hit' ... In Conflict With Trans Activists
9:09 AM PT -- San Francisco State University and its police department said in a statement to TMZ Sports on Friday no arrests were made Thursday night ... though they are still investigating the situation.
"The disruption occurred after the conclusion of the event which made it necessary for UPD officers to move the event speaker from the room to a different, safe location," university officials added.
Swimming star Riley Gaines says she was attacked by protestors on Thursday night and forced to barricade inside of a college classroom for hours ... after she gave a speech arguing that transgender athletes shouldn't be allowed to compete against biological females.
The heated confrontation went down at San Francisco State University's campus in Northern California ... where Gaines had arrived to speak with students at a Turning Point USA event.
In her chat with a small gathering inside of a classroom on campus, Gaines -- who famously spoke out against the NCAA and transgender swimmer Lia Thomas earlier this year -- explained why she believes trans athletes have an unfair advantage over biological women.

But, minutes into her talk, she was interrupted by a group of protestors ... who only got louder and louder throughout the night.
Eventually, Gaines said as she made her way out of the classroom ... trans activists who had entered the building to object to her stance attacked her.
4/7/23
"I was ambushed and physically hit twice by a man," she said of the scene on her Twitter page. "This is proof that women need sex-protected spaces."
Gaines shared a video of her encounter with protestors inside of the SFSU campus building ... showing her in a blue sweater being ushered to another classroom by police as people hurled chants and insults at her.
SFSU's student-run media outlet, the Golden Gate Xpress, reported Gaines was forced to stay locked inside of the classroom with police protection for roughly three hours.

Cops ultimately ordered people to disperse -- and Gaines, a former swim champ at the Univ. of Kentucky, was able to leave safely.
Gaines' agent, Eli Bremer, blasted the protestors in a statement to Fox News Digital after the event ... saying, "It is stunning that in America in 2023, it is acceptable for biological male students to violently assault a woman for standing up for women’s rights."
Police have moved into another hallway of HSS at 11:13 p.m pic.twitter.com/q2LBMgZL54

Bremer added, though, it would not impact Gaines' decision to speak out going forward.
Caitlyn Jenner voiced her support for Gaines after she became aware of the incident, writing in a tweet, "Pray for Riley Gaines! You are a courageous voice of reason, an incredible athlete, and beyond brave. Praying!!!"
We've reached out to both SFSU officials and the San Francisco Police Dept. for comment on the matter ... but so far, no word back yet.

Kelsea Ballerini doesn't regret her groundbreaking performance alongside drag queens on national television, and it definitely wasn't a surprise to showrunners ... TMZ has learned.
Sources with direct knowledge tell us ... the backlash Kelsea's getting for Sunday's CMT Music Awards moment -- having four "RuPaul’s Drag Race" queens come on stage during one of her performances -- is falling on deaf ears ... 'cause she doesn't regret it one bit.
We're told Kelsea fully stands by her decision to feature the drag queens ... which some folks in conservative circles have gone ballistic over -- accusing CMT of going woke.
FWIW, the drag queens' appearance was fully planned. Production sources tell TMZ ... both CMT and CBS were extremely supportive of the cameo and knew about it from the get-go ... we're also told they'd been part of rehearsals since Friday.

One of the drag queens, Manila Luzon, says it was actually Kelsea's idea to involve them -- and she did so cause she's an ally. Manila says the drag queens were super happy with how things went and appreciate the network heads for giving them a platform in front of a new type of audience.
ML adds ... country music is moving forward with the rest of the world. The performance was a celebration of love and a celebration of artistry.
The drag queens weren't the only controversial part of the CMT Awards -- Kelsea's comments on gun control also drew the ire of some on the right.

Kid Rock Shoots Up Cans of Bud Light ... Reacting to Transgender Team Up
Kid Rock is all fired up amid Bud Light's decision to partner up with a transgender activist -- and we mean that literally -- 'cause he's out firing bullets over the whole thing.
The singer/rapper posted a video to his social media Monday, which was uncaptioned ... but was also self-explanatory in what was shown. Namely, it's him grabbing an AR-style rifle of some sort and firing a ton of bullets at a few cases of Bud Light off in the distance.
He starts his video by saying, "grandpa's feeling a little frisky today," and then proceeds to shoot up the beer ... which he had teed up for him on a table near a lake.
Finally, he hits his point home by once again talking to the camera ... this time saying, "F*** Bud Light and f*** Anheuser-Busch. Have a terrific day."
Now, if you're wondering why KR is all pissy about Bud Light ... it's no secret if you've been following the news lately. Dylan Mulvaney -- who's a transgender woman and a social media influencer who's been documenting her transition journey online -- has partnered with BL.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
She did a promo for Bud Light a couple days ago ... flashing a bunch of their signature blue cans and plugging some sort of sweepstakes they were running. Dylan also posted a photo of a custom Bud Light can with her face on it ... something sent over by Anheuser.
There was swift backlash from people who apparently didn't like their fave brew company teaming with DM ... including a lot of conservatives, like Kid Rock. Anheuser-Busch has since spoken out and defended its partnership with Dylan, advocating for a diverse consumer base ... while also noting her custom can is not available to the public. It was just a gift.

If Anheuser was trying to reach the LGBTQ+ community, Dylan is certainly a great person to tap for a sponsorship -- she's been blowing up over the past year ... and has a big following.

Demi Lovato, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and comedian Chelsea Handler -- who posted a video of support and took jabs at politicians in support of anti-trans legislation in the process -- were among some of the other celebs to put their voice behind the cause.
