George Zimmerman allegedly punched his estranged wife's father during a childish dispute over who had the right to be in the house -- the renter or the owner, aka George or his daddy-in-law ... TMZ has learned.

Sources close to Zimmerman tell us, George and his estranged wife Shellie Zimmerman have been renting a home from her parents, but ever since she filed for divorce they've been avoiding each other like the plague -- scheduling house visits ahead of time to keep the peace.

Must've been a snafu in scheduling -- because we're told George showed up Monday AM to remove some things, and ran into Shellie and her dad.

We're told the argument erupted when Pops declared it was his house, and George replied that he was paying rent ... and had every right to be there. The spat ended when Zimmerman allegedly punched Shellie's dad in the face.

Complicating matters was the fact George brought his new girlfriend with him. We're told she was waiting in his car while he went inside, and didn't get out until police arrived.

At the end of Shellie's 911 call you can hear her say, "There's a woman in there. Oh my god."

As for the identity of George's gf -- we're told she appears to be someone new ... NOT George's ex-fiancée, despite what reports are saying.

One person is on record that George Zimmerman is not the guy you want as your next door neighbor ... the Chief of Police of Lake Mary, Florida.

Police Chief Steve Bracknell tells TMZ, he's frustrated Shellie Zimmerman changed her story. She now says George did not have his hand on a gun in a threatening manner while arguing with her father.

Chief Bracknell says of Zimmerman, "The guy just can't stay out of the news" -- referring to the Trayvon Martin killing, speeding tickets and now this. Bracknell says, "You'd think he'd get the heck out of Dodge."

We're told Shellie recanted her story after talking to her lawyer. The Chief said because of her flip-flopping, "There was not enough to affect an arrest, unfortunately."

Bracknell seems concerned that Zimmerman is bent on causing trouble, saying, "It's smoke, smoke smoke. Is there a fire somewhere? Lord knows."

George Zimmerman used a gun to threaten his estranged wife Shellie and her father -- this according to the 911 call obtained by TMZ -- and she was terrified he was going to shoot them.

Shellie Zimmerman placed the call, claiming George had punched her father in the nose and was making threats with his hand on his gun. She says, "He's just threatening all of us with his firearm ... he's gonna shoot us!"

Shellie says George also smashed her iPad and slashed it with a pocket knife. She added, "I don't know what he's capable of."

Shellie filed for divorce from George last week.

Police detained and questioned George at the home in Lake Mary, Florida, where Shellie's parents live. George has not been arrested, and has reportedly already left the home.

1:42 PM PT -- Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell tells us, Shellie and her father have declined to press charges and George will NOT be arrested.

12:25 PM PT -- Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell tells TMZ, Shellie was visiting her father this afternoon when George arrived and became aggressive. The chief says George allegedly threatened Shellie and her family, and had his hand on his gun. Shellie told police George then hit her dad.

8 officers are currently on the scene. George is currently being detained and has NOT been arrested.

George Zimmerman is being detained by police after allegedly threatening his wife's father with a gun.

It happened in Lake Mary, Florida this afternoon. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Zimmerman's wife, Shellie, called 911 and said her dad and George had gotten into a big argument and George had his hand on a gun.

We're told cops are at The Zimmerman house right now and have George detained for questioning. There appears to be no one injured.

Shellie filed for divorce last week. She went on TV and trashed George, saying he was making "reckless decisions."

Jennifer Love Hewitt and fiance Brian Hallisay were involved in a pasta-fueled confrontation with a photog Friday night ... and cops have launched a criminal investigation.

JLH and Brian were leaving the always-delicious Toscana restaurant in Brentwood when a pesky paparazzo prepared to snap some pics. We're told the couple asked the photog to lay off, but he ignored them and started snapping away.

Hallisay then allegedly got into it with the cameraman, and during the scuffle the photog claims the camera hit him in the face -- near his eye.

Apparently Jen -- who is pregnant -- felt so bad she let the photog snap a few more pics ... and then she and Hallisay left.

Unlike Toscana's rigatoni, the confrontation didn't go down well with the photog, because law enforcement sources tell us he went to the cop shop a few hours later and filed a battery report against Hallisay. Our sources say when he came to the station there was no visible injury to his face or eye.

"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Brandon DeShezar says he was beat to a pulp by the vicious hands of co-star Apollo Nida this week, and he's lawyering up for a big lawsuit.

DeShazer had a stiff upper lip as he tooled through LAX last night and talked to our photog.

As we previously reported ... witnesses say Apollo attacked DeShazer because he felt like BDS and Kenya Moore had screwed his wife Phaedra Parks over on some workout video deal.

Apparently in Louisiana ... when someone says "This Bud's for you," they don't mean the beer, because 2 members of "Swamp People" just surrendered to cops after allegedly beaning dude with a bottle.

Cops say R.J. Molinere and Jay Paul Molinere got into an argument with a 24-year-old man on a highway -- it sounds like a road rage thing. The "Swamp People" stars then allegedly followed the guy to a nearby mini mart and attacked him with a bottle of beer -- which they just happened to have handy.

The incident occurred last month ... both Molinere surrendered yesterday and were booked on charges of aggravated battery and released on $1k bond.

The victim is nursing a black eye, and a swollen forehead and jaw.

Huge brawl on "Real Housewives of Atlanta" ... sources tell TMZ.

"Real Housewives of Atlanta" cast member Brandon DeShazer -- Kenya Moore's assistant -- was seriously roughed up last night by Phaedra Parks' husband Apollo Nida ... all over beef stemming from some dumb workout video, a witness tells TMZ.

According to witnesses, Apollo flew into a rage and "violently attacked" Brandon at a party that was being filmed for the upcoming season ... and it was all caught on tape.

The witnesses say Apollo -- who once served 5 years in prison for racketeering -- had to be restrained by 7 male crew members before finally retreating.

We're told Apollo was pissed because Brandon and Kenya had allegedly agreed to produce a workout video starring Phaedra, but instead produced their own, cutting Phaedra out. We're told Apollo felt slighted, and blamed Brandon for stabbing Phaedra in the back.

Apollo has a different story, telling TMZ, there was a fight on the set, he tried to break it up and got attacked by Brandon. Apollo says at that point he defended himself and everything got out of control.

Dramatic.

Calls to Bravo weren't returned.

Mel Gibson had an angry encounter with Malibu cops last Saturday -- the good news ... he was sober and left the Jews out of it.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... just after 1:00 AM Mel and a female passenger rolled up to a DUI checkpoint on Pacific Coast Highway -- the same road where Mel was famously busted for DUI in 2006 -- where he ranted against the Jews.

We're told deputies asked Mel if he had been drinking. He said no and cops had no reason to suspect otherwise.

But there was a problem ... Cops asked Mel to produce his license, and Mel didn't have it on him. At that point deputies told Mel to go to a secondary screening spot, and that's when Gibson got angry. We're told Mel yelled, "Why are you harassing me?" Deputies asked why Mel was screaming and he responded, "I have had problems with you Lost Hills [Malibu] deputies in the past."

Things cooled down when deputies let Mel off with a warning.

Mel drove off and did not blame deputies or Jews for the whole Syrian thing.

A$AP Rocky hasn't had the decency to call the woman he allegedly slapped during a concert ... and she tells TMZ she wants to nail him in criminal court.

Lisa Wade --a self-described fan of A$AP -- called in to "TMZ Live" and gave the blow-by-blow ... which she says was a brutal, unprovoked attack.

Wade says A$AP was walking through a surging crowd of people when he hauled off and smacked her ... HARD.

A$AP's been charged with criminal battery.

Anthony Weiner isn't just an a-hole to Brits and women and school teachers ... he's also a prick to Jews -- and today in NY, he screamed at one inside of a Jewish bakery.

Weiner was being his typical unlikable self ... when a voter made a comment about why he thought the habitual self-dong photographer should fold his campaign.

Weiner, unhappy with the comment, called the guy a jackass ... and went off on another condescending attack ... proving, once again, he's the worst campaigner of all time.

9/5/13 -- Turns out, the guy Weiner was screaming at had talked smack about Anthony's wife right before the eruption ... and it was all caught on tape.

In new footage, you can hear the Jewish man tell Weiner, "You're a real scumbag" .... and, "You're married to an Arab."

That's when Weiner lost his cool.

So, now that we know this information, do ya blame Weiner for going ballistic on the guy?

Rapper A$AP Rocky -- the guy behind the hit "F**kin' Problems" -- has been slapped with an assault charge in Philadelphia after allegedly getting all Rick James on a female fan this weekend ... TMZ has learned.

We know ... the alleged victim, a young mom, filed a criminal complaint with the District Attorney's Office today claiming she was attending the Made In America concert on Saturday when the rapper got violent.

The woman claims A$AP was trying to make his way through a crowd of dancing fans -- with a bunch of girls pulling on his shirt -- when A$AP turned and fired off an open-hand slap, connecting with her face.

The woman claims she was injured from the alleged slap -- suffering whiplash from the impact.

The D.A.'s office reviewed the case and has decided to charge A$AP with misdemeanor simple assault.

We reached out to A$AP's camp for comment -- so far, no word back.

UFC badass Miesha Tate says she won't rest until she BREAKS Ronda Rousey's face ... telling TMZ she doesn't just wanna win when they fight -- she wants to knock Ronda's ass out cold.

Tate -- who's currently a coach on Fox Sports 1's "The Ultimate Fighter 18" -- was out in NYC yesterday when she told us how she plans to defeat Rousey when they face off at UFC 168 in December.

"I'm just going to smash her," Tate told us ... "I want her to wake up and see the ceiling and the headlights and me standing over here with the belt on already."

It ain't gonna be easy ... Rousey's undefeated in the world of MMA ... and she's pretty handy with the arm bar.

Still, Tate's confident -- telling us, "I would love nothing more than to break her jaw."

NBA player Royce White -- who famously missed his rookie season with the Houston Rockets due to mental health issues -- is at the center of a criminal investigation in Texas after allegedly beating up his then-girlfriend ... TMZ has learned.

We know ... White's ex-girlfriend Tania Mehra -- a Maxim model -- filed a police report on August 30 to report an incident that went down at Royce's Houston-area home back in June.

According to law enforcement, records show someone called 911 on June 22, 2013 to report a laceration above Tania's right eye. Cops say at the time, Tania claimed she suffered the injury from an "accidental fall."

But Tania changed her tune last week ... and filed an incident report in which she claims she LIED on the night of the incident -- and says in reality, Royce is to blame for her injury.

Cops tell TMZ, "The victim said she had lied earlier because the suspect played for the NBA and did not want the incident to damage his career."

Law enforcement also tells us, "The victim stated that White had assaulted her after she became angered by his advances toward her friend."

Cops say the incident is "under investigation" -- and so far, no charges have been filed against the 22-year-old NBA player.

Sources connected to the investigation tell us ... Tania claims Royce also grabbed a candleholder and threw at at her during the altercation ... but it missed, instead smashing into a mirror and causing it to shatter.

We've reached out to White's reps for comment -- so far, no word back.

FYI -- White was famously profiled on an episode of HBO's "Real Sports" in a segment that chronicled his battles with OCD and anxiety disorder.

Terrence Howard flew into a violent rage -- throwing his then-estranged wife to the ground, and threatening to slash his own wrists -- after she accused him of cheating ... this according to documents filed by Howard's ex.

In the court docs, Michelle Ghent claims the brawl went down in a Toronto hotel room in April ... when she found phone numbers for 6 women in his bag ... and promptly called the women while Howard was in the room.

In her filing ... Michelle says the 44-year-old Oscar nominee threw her computer out a window, lifted her off the ground and slammed her down ... and reached for an X-Acto blade and put it to his wrist.

Ghent claims Howard also pretended to hang himself with a belt -- and told her, "I'm just thinking if I should kill you first before killing me."

Two days after the hotel fight ... Ghent claims Howard continued talking about suicide in text messages. Her filing includes dozens of texts she claims he sent -- in one, Terrence allegedly said he wishes he "wasn't such a coward and that I had the courage to finish what should have been accomplished in the abortion clinic 44 years ago."

In another text Howard allegedly said he was going to get outpatient treatment for "his addictions and emotional instability" -- and offered to deposit more than $25,000 in her account to cover the damage to her computer.

As we previously reported ... Ghent got a temporary restraining order against Howard last month after he allegedly punched her and kicked her during a July vacation in Costa Rica. For his part, Howard claimed she had pepper sprayed him.
