Selena Gomez's kidneys were failing long before she received her transplant ... TMZ has learned.

We've learned when Selena was in Chicago for The Weeknd's concert back in May she was rushed to the hospital because of kidney failure. Abel was right by her side.

At that point Selena was already on a kidney transplant list.

She took a break from touring last year to deal with her lupus diagnosis. It's a chronic disease that attacks the body's immune system and the kidneys. She was suffering serious effects from the disease.

Selena now has a new kidney after a transplant this summer, thanks to her donor/best friend Francia Raisa.

Selena posted this pic post-surgery of her and kidney donor Francia Raisa. She said, "I'm very aware some of my fans had noticed i was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn't promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of."

Selena goes on ... "So I found out I need to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health."

And then she thanks her friend ... "There aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift."

Delta Air Lines allegedly destroyed a woman's bottom teeth with a rock-hard meal ... and she's stone-cold serious about making them pay.

The Malibu woman tells TMZ ... she was on a flight from Turkey to L.A. in 2015 when she ordered pita bread with eggplant dipping sauce. She claims when she took a bite, she chomped down on a pebble in the sauce ... and her tooth was obliterated.

She says it left an exposed nerve and when she screamed in pain flight attendants rushed to her aide -- but she claims they offered her a mere $80 worth of airline miles for her troubles.

The woman says she underwent 2 years of "complex dental restoration," and claims Delta's refused to compensate her. According to her lawsuit, she wants $9,999.99 from the airline to cover her out-of-pocket dental expenses.

Whole Foods says eat real food ... but one man's now ruffling feathers with a lawsuit, claiming the grocery store sold him chicken with rocks.

Dr. Albert Liu is suing Whole Foods, saying he ordered ready-to-eat Organic Naked Rotisserie Chicken in Vegas but it had 2 rocks inside the chicken's gizzard, or stomach.

In docs obtained by TMZ, Liu says he broke 2 teeth after biting into the rocks. Liu says he complained to Whole Foods and the manager apologized and told him to file a report. Liu says he did, and a different manager the next day said WF shouldn't have sold him the bird.

It's interesting ... it seems chickens do eat rocks, but they "chew" the food in their gizzard 'cause, ya know, they have no teeth.

We reached out to Whole Foods, so far no word back, but check this out. The law in most states says ... if a grocery store or restaurant sells food and something "indigenous" to the item causes injury, tough luck for the consumer. So, if you buy lobster and break your tooth on the shell, you're outta luck.

If you bite down on a foreign object -- say a nail in a steak -- then you have a case.

With the chicken, it turns out they actually eat rocks. So we're not saying Whole Foods will win, but they may have a good argument that rocks are indigenous.

8:55 PM PT -- A rep for Wayne confirms he suffered multiple seizures and his Vegas show has been canceled. We're told he's currently resting.

Lil Wayne was hospitalized yet again this weekend for his ongoing bout with epilepsy and the seizures that come with it, TMZ has learned, and this time it might have torpedoed Sunday night's Vegas gig.

Multiple sources tell us Wayne was hospitalized Sunday in Chicago after he was found unconscious in his hotel room at the Westin on Michigan Avenue after suffering at least one seizure.

He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial, where we're told he suffered yet another seizure. Our sources say his team tried to have him discharged late Sunday afternoon so he could make it to his Vegas show.

However, doctors advised against the discharge, saying he should be grounded for a few days. Wayne has suffered seizures while flying before, and the doctors felt it was too risky. He very well may still be at the hospital.

Wayne is supposed to perform at Drais Beachclub in Vegas at midnight alongside Rae Sremmurd, although it's unclear if he's still planning to show as of this writing.

Seizures have plagued Wayne for years. Just last year he had to cancel an appearance in Vegas because of his epilepsy.

2:47 PM PT -- 41-year-old Aaron Joel Mitchell succumbed to his injuries and died Sunday morning after running into the flames of a Burning Man statue ... according to the festival's organizers. Mitchell died after arriving to the burn center to which he was airlifted. His family was notified, and an investigation is ongoing into the circumstances of his death.

A man was airlifted to the hospital this weekend after he ran head-on into a sea of fire at the Burning Man festival ... and it was all caught on camera.

Here's how it went down ... a guy literally sprinted past fire crews Saturday night that were stationed around one of the giant burning man structures in Nevada, leaving him engulfed in flames. Firefighters leaped to the rescue and treated him on the scene.

He was then transported to an on-site medical facility, and later airlifted to a burn treatment center ... according to the festival's organizers.

Photos of the incident were captured, and they're pretty graphic. You see what appears to be a long haired man running full force into the blaze ... and then tripping and falling with fire rescuers close behind.

A woman is suing her ex-boyfriend and his employer, Monster Energy Drink, after he allegedly tried to bite her finger off during a work trip.

The woman claims her BF was Monster's head of music marketing and flew her out to the 2016 Country Music Awards in Nashville. In legal docs, she says he got them a hotel room and her plane ticket from L.A. all at Monster's expense.

She claims he was drunk from the moment he picked her up at the airport, and his heavy drinking led to a fight later in their hotel room. According to the suit, he choked her and the only way she could free herself was by poking him in the eye, and when she did ... he bit her thumb.

The woman says the bite got infected, and she had to be hospitalized for 24 hours. She claims Monster knew he had a drinking problem, but didn't do anything about it.

Justin Bieber went to the ER back in May fearing a soccer injury had caused one of his testicles to twist, and that triggered a nasty legal claim between the hospital and a fired employee.

Justin made an emergency run to Northwell Health in Long Island New York, and a staffer named Kelly Lombardo found out about it. The hospital claims Lombardo illegally accessed Justin's medical file in one of the computers ... this after hearing rumors Justin had been admitted for an STD.

According to the lawsuit, the hospital fired Lombardo for being "an immoral employee" who violated Bieber's privacy rights.

Lombardo has just filed a wrongful termination lawsuit, claiming she never accessed Justin's file and simply heard from others he was there for treatment of an STD.

Sources connected to Justin tell TMZ, he did NOT go to the hospital for an STD. They say he had been playing soccer and suffered a painful injury. Justin "WebMD'd himself" into a tizzy and believed he had testicular torsion, a serious condition caused when a spermatic cord becomes twisted cutting off the flow of blood to the attached testicle. It almost always requires surgery.

We're told the doctor examined Justin and quickly realized all that was wrong was a swollen testicle. A relieved Justin then left the ER and went about his life.

As for Lombardo, she's filed a claim with the New York Division of Human Rights, claiming she was singled out and fired because she's a woman.

New York employment attorney David H. Rosenberg tells TMZ that "my client never accessed Mr. Bieber's medical file and yet she was fired for doing so."

For Justin there's a happy ending.

Katy Perry is in a toe jam, after a woman claims she lost one of hers while working on the singer's tour.

Christina Fish claims in a lawsuit she was hired as a stagehand for Katy's Prismatic World Tour in 2014.

On the night of Katy's Raleigh, NC concert she was asked to help move a wall ... when it got stuck and then rolled across her foot. She says she felt her shoe fill with blood.

She says she was offered ice but no one called for an ambulance, so she had to call a friend to pick her up and take her to the ER.

Christina says her right toe became gangrenous, and eventually needed to be amputated. She says she wasn't able to use her foot for months.

She also says she suffered great emotional distress, because orthopedic doctors instructed her to keep her "dead toe" on as long as possible before the eventual amputation.

Christina says she had a passion for yoga and that's now a distant memory without a toe.

Joey Bada$$ mighta gotten a taste of his own waves -- electromagnetic waves from the sun, that is ... 'cause he's rockin' new eyewear after pulling a Trump during the solar eclipse.

The New York rapper posted a pic of himself Thursday with a pair of doctor-prescribed sun glasses that he says he's gotta wear during the day from now on ... for now, at least. He seems to like 'em though, he's calling them "pretty fire."

On its face, the new day shades seem to confirm possible eye damage Joey suffered at the hands of Monday's eclipse -- which he says he stared at without protective glasses ... this right before he canceled a few shows that many pegged to his Trump stunt.

You'll recall ... Trump did the same from a balcony at the White House, staring at the solar eclipse naked eyed at least twice.

However, Joey's shades could just be a style choice as opposed to survival tactics ... 'cause he's also calling his eye damage rumors BS.

Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith allegedly beat his sister's boyfriend so badly during a July 4 attack, the guy was hospitalized in critical condition with multiple broken bones in his face, TMZ Sports has learned.

Law enforcement tells us ... officers responded to calls of an unconscious male on the streets of Pasadena and when help arrived they found him bloody and beaten on the sidewalk.

We're told it was obvious the man had multiple facial fractures.

Cops previously said Smith beat the man and then stomped his head.

Investigators spoke with multiple witnesses -- and fingered Smith as the assailant.

Smith -- who signed a 4-year, $38 million contract in 2016 -- was arrested for felony assault. He posted $80,000 bond and is due back in court to be arraigned in September.

For his part, Smith has denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to fight the case.

The NFL has launched its own investigation into the incident.

Charles Manson looked healthy and as anti-Semitic as ever in his latest mugshot.

Manson was photographed Monday at the Corcoran State Prison in Northern California. Prisoners get photographed every few years for security reasons ... if they escape, the photo authorities put out will resemble the inmate.

The 82-year-old Manson, who is serving a life term for the slaughter that bears his name, may have done something with the swastika that seems bolder than before. Then again, the wrinkles may be accentuating it.

He doesn't look worse for wear after he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he spent days for a lesion in his intestines that caused significant bleeding. Surgery was scheduled but canceled ... he was too high risk.

Tom Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt for the new 'Mission: Impossible' movie ... and production is officially on pause.

A rep for Paramount Pictures -- the studio behind 'MI:6' -- tells TMZ ... "Tom Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt. Production will go on hiatus while Tom makes a full recovery."

The rep goes on to say that the movie is still on schedule to be released next July.

As we reported ... Tom tried and failed the dubious stunt at least twice -- and one of those times apparently put him out of commission.

The tragic death of a stuntwoman on the set of "Deadpool 2" has reminded us that Hollywood stunts can quickly go awry, and they often have through the years.

We took a look back at some of the most brutal (and sometimes fatal) stunts that actors and stunt doubles put themselves through for the sake of the job ... and the aftermath ain't pretty.

From Dan Bilzerian's porn star rooftop toss in 2014 that left the woman with a shattered foot to the controversial mishandling of a pup on the set of "A Dog's Purpose" earlier this year and everything in between ... this week's latest accident, which left road racer Joi 'SJ' Harris dead, makes the message clear to Tinseltown's performers: BE CAREFUL!!!

The stuntwoman who was killed on the set of "Deadpool 2" has been identified ... and she was a professional road racer.

The victim was Joi "SJ" Harris, a professional motorcycle racer from Brooklyn, NY and the first African-American licensed female in the sport ... her family confirms to TMZ.

She was not a member of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists -- a Canadian actors union. "Deadpool 2" was also her first film as a stunt driver.

We broke the story ... Harris lost control of her motorcycle during filming in Vancouver, which sent her airborne through a glass window of a ground floor studio. Eyewitnesses say the brakes were never applied ... and she was also not wearing a helmet. She died on the scene.

Weeks before her tragic death, Harris tweeted she had just fully healed from an injury involving her wrist and was ready to ride again. She had also fallen from a motorcycle before and filmed the fall.
