The guy who attacked Brad Pitt on the red carpet last night violated a cardinal rule of fighting -- never hit a guy with glasses ... especially when he's surrounded by a team of security goons.

TMZ broke the story ... Ukrainian troublemaker Vitalii Sediuk lunged at Pitt at the "Maleficent" premiere ... hitting him in the face and breaking the designer sunglasses he was wearing. Sediuk was immediately subdued ... and hauled off to jail.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... Brad wasn't hurt in the attack -- just stunned -- but a temporary emergency restraining order is now in place ... ordering Sediuk to stay at least 500 feet way from Pitt for the next 5 days.

We're told the case has been sent to the L.A. City Attorney for possible prosecution.

Brad Pitt was the target of a crazed man who jumped a barrier and made contact with the actor while he walked a red carpet..

Pitt was at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood for the premiere of wife Angelina Jolie's new Disney flick "Maleficent" ... when a man suddenly jumped the fence and ran up to the actor while he was walking down the red carpet.

We're told the man actually made contact with Pitt's face before being nabbed by cops. It's unclear what the man's intentions were.

Law enforcement sources tell us the man was arrested by LAPD and booked for misdemeanor battery.

9:45 PM PT -- The whacked out fan turned out to be the moron Ukranian reporter, Vitalii Sediuk, who also got slapped for trying to kiss Will Smith, was arrested after he crashed the Grammys, and once got a face full of Leonardo DiCaprio's crotch. 

Emma Watson was the safest student to receive her degree from Brown University on Sunday ... because she had her own armed security guard with her in the audience!

Watson was among 2,000 students to graduate this weekend, but we're guessing she was the only one who employed private security ... cleverly disguised in her own cap and gown.

The Isla Vista massacre is another example of how people romanticize violence ... this according to Matthew Modine.

Whitney Houston's family is PISSED that Lifetime is making a movie about her life ... because they feel Whitney is too big for the small screen.

Lifetime made the announcement earlier this week ... they're planning on a biopic for 2015, with Angela Bassett making her directorial debut.

According to our sources, the Houston estate is so upset they're considering a lawsuit to block production. We're told the family has already expressed displeasure to Lifetime and made it clear they weren't on board with a TV movie.

Sources close to the Houston family tell us the estate is planning its own movie for the big screen -- ala the "This is It'" Michael Jackson flick.

Pat Houston, wouldn't get specific with us but did say, "Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie. If Whitney were here today, this would not be happening."

Lifetime had no comment.

Comedian Luenell Campbell was on a flight from hell this week after a guy flipped out and started speaking in tongues ... so of course, the "Borat" star rolled on the whole crazy scene.

The mid-flight scare went down Thursday afternoon on a flight from L.A. to Miami ... when the man started screaming from the back of the plane and flailing around.

After a few minutes of yelling, Luenell tells us the passenger threw up on the person next to him ... and that's when the air marshal and a civilian passenger sprung into action.

In the video ... you hear the guy wailing and blabbing incoherently while 2 men hold him down. You also get a little commentary from Luenell --- who doesn't seem to concerned with the sitch.

This is shocking ... not a single black woman cracked the top 10 on the just released Maxim Hot 100 List.

Rihanna didn't make the cut. Ditto Lupita Nyong'o. Same for Beyonce.

Rihanna just missed at #11. Beyonce didn't even crack the top 20, coming in at 21.

"Twilight" star Nikki Reed has filed for divorce from former "American Idol" contestant Paul McDonald ... TMZ has learned.

In the divorce docs, obtained by TMZ, Reed cites irreconcilable differences. She's also asking the court to deny McDonald spousal support. It was the first marriage for both. The couple had no kids together.

Reed and McDonald announced they were splitting back in March ... and revealed they'd already been living apart for 6 months.

Interestingly, even though several reports had the couple getting married in October 2011 -- in the docs their marriage date is July 14, 2011.

Despite the split, Nikki and Paul have continued working on an album together. Not weird at all.

They stood together through Donald Sterling ... fought together through the playoffs ... but there's one thing driving a wedge through the L.A. Clippers -- Batman.

DeAndre Jordan and Glen "Big Baby" Davis were leaving Boa Steakhouse in L.A. last night when we asked a pretty harmless question ... favorite comic book movie.

They both said "Batman" -- but that's where the problems began.

Paul Walker's brother Cody made Malibu beachgoers do a double take Monday as he shot scenes with Tyrese, Vin Diesel, Ludacris and Michelle Rodriguez for "Fast and Furious 7."

Cody is filling in the gaps ... shooting Paul's unfinished scenes. As TMZ first reported, Cody and his brother Caleb will also do voice work to match Paul.

Walker died November 30 while the film was still in production.

The new Wonder Woman in Ben Affleck's upcoming "Batman vs. Superman" flick really could've used her golden lasso over the weekend ... to help extract a major wedgie from her butt.

Gal Gadot -- famous for her role as Gisele in the "Fast and the Furious" movies -- was out for a bike ride Sunday in Tel Aviv ... when she had to pick that scrunch in her bunch.

Beyonce is putting it out there as clearly as she can ... she's a member of one big happy family.

Beyonce and Solange reunited in New Orleans Saturday ... Bey posted a pic of the two embracing on Instagram -- and captioned the date and location to show it was legit.

File Under: "WR Blames QB" -- because Kevin Connolly says it's Russell Wilson's fault he broke his leg on the set of "Entourage" ... due to a bad pass!!

Kev was limping around L.A. the other night -- still recovering after the injury he suffered during a game of catch with the Seattle Seahawks QB in between takes.

And when we asked who's to blame for the break, Kev pointed the finger right at Russell -- "I know he's the Super Bowl champion, but it wasn't a great pass."

Kev says he caught the ball -- because he's a friggin' playmaker -- but says, "It was a bad pass, I'm not gonna lie."
