Good news: George R.R. Martin says he's still chipping away at the "Game of Thrones" books "one page at a time."
Bad News: When we asked if the last book will be done by the time the HBO show catches up, he gave a less-than-encouraging response ... "Who the hell knows?!"
Martin was out at The Grove in L.A. where we asked him about his progress on the books behind the incredible TV show (books he writes in DOS, btw).
And though he wasn't spilling secrets left and right, he did reveal his favorite CHARACTER in the series ... which made us happy, 'cause it's gotta be harder to kill off someone you like, right?
'Game of Thrones' Director
My Wife Is Holding Kids Hostage
5/8/2014 12:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
The divorce between "Game of Thrones" director Alex Graves and his estranged wife has gone nuclear ... he claims she's a vindictive, unbalanced woman who's holding their kids hostage.
Graves claims in court docs -- obtained by TMZ -- that his wife Sarah refuses to let him see his 15-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter unless he falls for her ploy to get more money.
Graves says he worked his ass off as a Hollywood director to provide a stable, upscale lifestyle for his family ... with exotic trips and festive holiday celebrations.
But Graves thinks his wife resented his work and complained for years he didn't earn enough because he's too stupid.
He says she's bipolar and is fixated on the belief he's having an affair. Graves accuses Sarah of spying on him and using their son to try to bait him into admitting infidelity.
We've contacted Sarah's attorney ... so far no word back.

"Game of Thrones" director Alex Graves -- who directed the famous show 2 weeks ago where Joffrey was poisoned at his own wedding -- is getting divorced ... TMZ has learned.
Graves filed legal docs citing irreconcilable differences in his marriage to Sarah Graves. They were married in 1995 and have 2 kids, a son 15 and a daughter 11.
Alex is asking for joint physical and legal custody. He also wants to split attorney's fees with his wife.
Graves has directed a number of huge shows -- including "West Wing" (where he was also Executive Producer) and "Ally McBeal."

King Joffrey Plays
Cruel Death Game With Friends
4/22/2014 12:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
Jack Gleeson has a good poker face -- King Joffrey himself watched last week's famous Purple Wedding with a group of unwitting friends ... watching THEM as they watched HIM die.
Gleeson had a private "Game of Thrones" screening in Ireland Sunday night with 11 friends. Some of Gleeson's pals hadn't read the books, so they were totally in the dark ... although Jack did warn them something big would be happening.
Gleeson celebrated his death by ordering from Dublin's Chop Chop. His meal of choice ... a 10 piece order of the Salt Chili Chicken Balls, a few Eight Degrees beers (from his hometown in Ireland), and some homemade Joffrey-shaped cookies ... complete with blood frosting.
Sounds like a good way to go.
'Game of Thrones' Stars & Crew
Hemorrhage $1,200 on Miami Feast
Before Royal Wedding
4/14/2014 10:04 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
The Lannisters aren't the only ones flush with cash -- sources tell TMZ, "Games of Thrones" stars Gwendoline Christie and Pedro Pascal feasted at a $1,200 dinner with friends Friday in Miami.
We're told Christie (who plays Brienne of Tarth) and Pascal (The Red Viper) were in town for the HBO Latin American 'GoT' tour, and stopped by South Beach hotspot Bâoli to try the most expensive burger in the city -- just days before Sunday's terrifying "Royal Wedding" episode.
It's called the Bâoli burger and it costs $65. It's made from Kobe beef with heirloom tomatoes, foie gras, and black truffle slices, topped with a quail egg.
We're told Christie and Pascal split the burger, but also ordered the burrata, tuna tartare, several sushi rolls, filet mignon, and the sea bass. They also ordered a bunch of fancy drinks -- and lucky for them ... HBO picked up the tab, we're told.
But the best part ... no one was brutally murdered!

'Game of Thrones' Star
It's Gonna Get REALLY Bloody
1/11/2014 12:15 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
The blood-soaked gorefest known as "Game of Thrones" is about to get even more gruesome ... one of the stars of the HBO fantasy series tells us the next season is going be dripping in plasma.
Emilia Clarke -- who was nominated for an Emmy for playing exiled princess Daenerys Targaryen -- gave a sadistic little laugh when we saw her at LAX and asked how much blood would be shed in season 4 ... and then she clued us in.
The deaths on the show have been epic so far -- lots of beheadings, a knife through the eye, being gored by a boar, one guy had boiling, molten gold poured on him ... another was tied to a horse and was dragged by his weiner.
Check out the clip ... and see a pap nearly break his neck.
'Game of Thrones' Queen
Demands Anti-Texting App for Ex
12/26/2013 12:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
The hot queen on "Game of Thrones" just struck a deal with her ex-husband -- they both must download an app that PROHIBITS them from texting or emailing while driving ... for the sake of their kid.
Lena Headey -- who plays Queen Cersei -- just sealed her divorce settlement with Peter Loughran. Peter has driving issues -- a very bad accident. So Lena was concerned about Peter driving their 3-year-old son around, and imposed a requirement that he download a smartphone app that prevents him from sending or receiving text messages while driving. The app also blocks the Internet. She agreed to do the same.
The boy is now a very young jet setter ... because Lena is going to take him along for the ride when she shoots the show in exotic locations, such as Ireland, Croatia and other places. But there's a cost to all of this. Lena has to pay so Peter can tag along. He gets airfare -- the least expensive class with a bed -- plus 1K a month in expenses.
It's good to be the Queen -- and Prince Philip.
'Game of Thrones' Creator
Hobnobbing in the Shire
11/26/2013 12:40 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
Prepare for a nerdgasm "Game of Thrones" geeks -- TMZ obtained photo evidence tying the show's creator to that other world of fantasy ... the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy!!
George R.R. Martin took a tour of the Shire movie set from the "Rings" movies this weekend on the North Island of New Zealand ... where, BTW, Winter is not coming (it's Spring down there).
The 65-year-old author and screenwriter looked pretty stoked to hang with normies on the tour -- but still proved he's top banana in the nerd world. Dude, arrived by freaking helicopter!
Gandalf would be proud.

Don't expect to see Jason Momoa slap-battling anymore random dudes at bars ... 'cause the "Game of Thrones" actor says he's hanging up his mitts for good.
Momoa was catching a flight out of LAX when we asked about the video that went viral this week of his dominating slap sesh ... and Khal Drago told us that was his final battle.
Momoa says the dumbass in the video who challenged him was a friend -- and after the battle the guy's hands healed quickly. Why do we think Jason's friend would have a different opinion?
Oh, yeah ... because we've seen the video.

*** WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE ***
Jason Momoa -- the guy who plays the enormous and terrifying Khal Drogo on "Game of Thrones" -- slapped the bejeezus out of some guy in Atlanta last night ... and it was all caught on tape.
The slappee posted the video on YouTube -- after he stupidly challenged the 6’5” "Conan the Barbarian" actor to a game of slaps, and got his ass destroyed.
Check it out. The video is truly hilarious. And Jason is a bro.
On Game of Thrones:
I DON'T WATCH
6/10/2013 8:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
There have been tons of bombshells on "Game of Thrones" this season ... but the biggest one yet -- Peter Dinklage says ... HE DOESN'T WATCH THE SHOW!!!!!
Seriously ... Dinklage -- who plays scarred-up, drunken, whore-banger Tyrion Lannister on the show -- told photogs in Montreal he doesn't have an opinion on the infamous "Red Wedding" episode because "I don't watch the show."
He also says he doesn't have HBO ... but c'mon, he HAD to have been joking, right??
