Britney Spears -- The Road to Freedom

Published | Updated

Britney Spears' team has taken the first step toward ending the conservatorship, TMZ has learned ... but it's by no means a done deal.

Sources tell us lawyers and others connected with the case have been meeting ... evaluating Britney's progress with the goal of ending the conservatorship. As we first reported, Britney's dad, Jamie Spears, wanted to wait until her tour ended before making the big move, but it's something he wants for his daughter only when the time is right.

We know there have been several lengthy meetings recently between the lawyers and the court commissioner in the commissioner's chambers.

Jamie and the lawyers will not make the decision to end the conservatorship. They will weigh in, but the person with all the influence is the "capacity expert" -- a psychiatrist who was appointed by the court. The capacity expert will do a thorough evaluation and submit it to the commissioner.

We're told one of the fears Jamie has ... Sam Lutfi, a guy Jamie thinks is still a threat to Britney if she allows him back in her life. He's got that right.

There are actually two conservatorships -- one over Britney, the person, and the other over Britney's business affairs. We're told the business conservatorship will likely continue. The issue on the table is whether to end the conservatorship over Britney, the person. Again, no decisions have been made, but it's all moving in that direction.

Paul Anka Involved in Domestic Dispute

Published | Updated

Multiple police cars rolled out to the home of music legend Paul Anka Thursday morning after cops received two 911 calls about a domestic dispute between Paul and his wife Anna.

According to law enforcement, 2 calls came in from the couple's mansion in Thousand Oaks, California around 7:49 AM.

When cops arrived to the home, they reported no visible injuries -- and no arrests were made. But according to Paul, there was one hell of a stand-off.

TMZ spoke to Anka, who told us the couple has been having "escalating" problems for months and he's been staying at a hotel. Anka says on the day of the incident, he had rolled by the house to take the couple's kids to school, when he and his wife began arguing over the maid -- who Anna had fired the day before.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Anna called 911 and told them she was afraid because Paul had pulled a gun on her during an argument the night before. But Paul says his whole house is under video surveillance, and when officers arrived, he played the tape -- which showed no such incident. Cops took a report -- but no arrests were made.

Hours later, Paul filed for divorce in L.A. County Superior Court.

The Ankas are no strangers to domestic disputes -- around the same time last year Anna was arrested for felony domestic battery after she allegedly threw a piece of ice at Paul ... and split his head open. Paul eventually forgave his wife and refused to press charges.

Miley Cyrus Tried to Underage Party in the U.S.A

Published | Updated

Miley Cyrus doesn't hear the word "no" very often -- but TMZ has learned that's exactly what she heard when she tried to get into a club in Miami Beach Wednesday night.

We spoke to multiple people connected to the 21-and-over Club LIV at the Fontainebleau hotel -- including a manager, an owner and a rep -- who all told us Miley and her posse showed up to party at the hotspot like they were adults.

They all told us Miley was turned away at the door because she obviously didn't meet the age requirement ... despite the fact that she has the voice of an 81-year-old chain smoker.

Miley's rep tells us this didn't happen ... even though it wouldn't be the 17-year-old singer's first time at a bar.

The photo of Miley we used for this post is of her leaving the Fontainebleau hotel on Thursday.
