LeBron James surprised the basketball team at Notre Dame High School in L.A. on Tuesday -- hitting the gym for a training session while his wife checked out the campus ... TMZ Sports has learned.

We're told Bron and Savannah James rolled up to the school in a chauffeured car around 6 PM and walked around campus before a workout on the court.

LeBron owns a home in Brentwood and there's talk he could be checking out various private schools to send his kids -- including 12-year-old Bronny, one of the best hoop prospects in the country.

Notre Dame is one of the top private schools in the area -- with an alumni list that includes Giancarlo Stanton, Rachel Bilson, Dave Navarro, Katharine McPhee and Jerry Mathers.

Any school would kill for Bron's kids -- but it's unclear if ND is seriously in the running.

It's a Catholic school ... so ... pray?

10:55 PM PT -- LeBron has posted a video thanking the school for opening the gym so he could work out after a long day of shooting commercials.

LeBron insists the kids had no idea he was coming and emphasizes that he was there to get his own workout in.

LBJ makes no mention of the school being a candidate for his own kids. Sorry, Knights.

Charles Oakley tears into the NY Knicks as the "laughingstock" of the NBA -- and rips owner James Dolan as an incompetent, insecure liar in a brand new lawsuit obtained by TMZ Sports.

Oak is suing Dolan and the Knicks over that infamous Feb. 2017 incident when Oakley was forcibly removed from Madison Square Garden and arrested following an altercation with security.

In his suit, filed in federal court in NY, Oakley says Dolan had it out for him from the moment he took over the team because Charles refused to "kiss the ring."

"Dolan constantly disrespected Mr. Oakley, refusing to make eye contact or shake his hand during meetings, denying the type of fan appreciation nights given to much less popular and successful members of the Knicks."

The coup de grace ... Oakley says Dolan made him buy his own tickets to Knicks games while routinely treating other retired players to free courtside seats.

Oakley says things came to a head on Feb. 8 ... when Dolan ordered security to remove him from the building and a physical altercation ensued. Oakley says Dolan then ran a smear campaign, falsely accusing him of being an alcoholic who was drunk at the Garden.

In fact, Oakley points to an ESPN Radio interview in which Dolan said Charles "may have a problem with alcohol" and then claimed Oak was verbally abusive to MSG staff.

Oakley says he was neither intoxicated nor otherwise behaving inappropriately that night.

Oakley is suing for defamation, assault, battery, false imprisonment and more. Oakley does not specify how much money he's seeking.

We spoke with Oak's attorney, Douglas Wigdor, who tells us, "While the facts of the complaint speak for themselves, Mr. Oakley filed this lawsuit out of principle and his desire to hold Mr. Dolan accountable for his actions which I can assure you that our Firm is committed to doing on his behalf."

The LSU Police Dept. has opened an investigation into a crazy tailgate brawl on Saturday involving a man with ONE ARM IN A CAST who brutally punched the hell out of several people ... TMZ Sports has learned.

The video, shot by Zac Hall, went viral minutes after he posted it online -- showing a man with his right arm in a purple cast up to his bicep unloading on several LSU fans, knocking at least one guy out cold.

The victim appeared to be trying to diffuse the situation when the cast guy struck. The unidentified man proceeded to throw more punches at the victim and anyone else who tried to step in.

A rep for the LSUPD tells us, "No arrests at this time but LSU police are investigating."

Sloane Stephens went from beast mode to feast mode after her win at the US Open this weekend ... chowing down on some fancy steak to celebrate.

Sloane hit up STK Downtown Saturday in NYC to celebrate her win against Madison Keys, and ate like the champ she is! Our steak sources tell us she brought about 70 people for dinner around 11 PM. The legendary Ernest Hemingway home appears doomed ... an almost certain casualty of Hurricane Irma ... this according to local law enforcement.

The Key West home -- made of wood and built in the 1850's -- sits about 16 feet above sea level, which is the highest point on the island. Law enforcement tells us they're expecting at least 15 feet of water to flood the area ... so the outcome is bleak.

The Hemingway Home's manager, 72-year-old Jacqui Sands, has already said she's staying put to maintain the home and its 55 or so roaming cats. Jacqui and some staff are boarding up and bunkering down.

If Jacqui or her staff are injured, cops say they'll be left to fend for themselves, because hospitals, ERs, rescue crews and other government assistance will not be available.

Sources connected to the couple tell TMZ, neither Anna nor Chris have filed for divorce. Based on what we know neither Anna nor Chris have even lawyered up.

Anna and Chris announced their split on August 6. One source tells TMZ there was a "serious" underlying issue between Anna and Chris, but the source said there's definitely a chance this will not end in divorce.

For what it's worth, Chris wasn't wearing his ring one week after the split.

LAPD busted the rapper around 9 PM Monday when officers spotted his car illegally parked -- Nipsey doesn't have a disabled placard -- and when they ran the plates, discovered he had warrants for previous traffic violations.

Nipsey clearly ain't sweating the arrest. He was back in the studio at 5 AM Tuesday after bailing out on "some bulls**t" ... as he put it.

Chiefs legend Neil Smith rescued a pregnant woman stuck in a severe flood earlier this week ... and now he's walking us through the harrowing experience.

Smith -- who played 13 seasons in the NFL, made 6 Pro Bowls and won 2 Super Bowls -- saw a woman trapped in her car on Tuesday on a severely flooded street near his home in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

FYI -- the area has been pounded with a historic amount of rain.

The 6'5" ex-NFL star tells us he immediately jumped into action (after he took off his shoes) and made a beeline for the woman ... reaching her and escorting her to safety, unhurt.

"Everything I've ever done, both on the field and in life, I just react to things. Fortunately I was just there for her at a good time," Smith says.

"Thank God I was there at the right time to try and help her out, where life can just go on for another day."

Cleveland Cavs star Derrick Rose just got a brand new family member -- he's adorable, he's furry and he ain't cheap!

TMZ Sports has learned Derrick and GF, Alaina Anderson, brought home a 10-week-old Chocolate Goldendoodle puppy this week from Murphy's Doodles, a high-end breeder in Florida.

We're told ... the couple dropped $4,600 for the pooch -- which they immediately brought out to their home in Beverly Hills.

So far, we're told the dog doesn't have a name -- but they're workin' on it!

We spoke with a rep for the World Boxing Council (WBC) who tells us the belt was specially made for the McGregor vs. Mayweather fight -- and they spared no expense!

3,360 diamonds placed throughout the piece -- with an additional 600 sapphires and 160 emeralds!

The strap is made from crocodile leather.

It's not the first high-priced belt the WBC has made for a Mayweather fight -- they commissioned a special "Emerald Belt" when Floyd fought Manny Pacquiao ... which was valued at $1 million!

11:43 AM PT -- Russillo drunkenly passed out in a stranger's bed ... cops say.

Long story short, cops were called to a home by the owner around 3:30 AM on Wednesday to report a strange man sleeping in one of the bedrooms.

When cops arrived, they found Russillo who appeared to be hammered out of his face -- "blood shot glassy eyes, very slurred speech and could not answer questions coherently, all signs of alcohol intoxication."

Cops say Russillo didn't know where he was or where he was supposed to be staying.

Officers also don't believe he forced entry -- and say he got in the house through a door that hadn't been secured properly.

He was charged with criminal trespass -- and could face a $750 fine.

ESPN host Ryen Russillo -- who's appeared on ESPN radio and TV since 2009 -- was arrested in Wyoming for criminal entry ... TMZ Sports has learned.

We know 42-year-old Russillo was taken into custody on Wednesday and is still locked up as of the time of this post, according to officials.

Details surrounding Russillo's arrest are unclear. We're working on it.

Russillo currently has his own show on ESPNews -- "The Ryen Russillo Show" -- but he's obviously not hosting today. Will Cain is filling in and announced he'll be doing so the rest of the week.
