NBA's Ty Lawson

Props From Judge In DUI Case

8/20/2015 2:38 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0819_ty_lawson_gettySome more good news for embattled NBA star Ty Lawson ... who just got some dap from the judge presiding over his DUI case in Colorado.

Long story short ... the Houston Rockets star entered rehab last month following a DUI arrest in Los Angeles .... which came 6 months after a DUI arrest in Denver.

There was a hearing in his Colorado case today -- and in the judge's notes, he wrote that Lawson has been making "excellent progress" in the case.

Lawson's challenge will be to keep his nose clean in the coming weeks and months. There's no room for error ... considering a judge has ordered him to install an alcohol monitoring system in his home to make sure he stays sober.

As for the L.A. DUI -- a hearing is scheduled for next week.

We know he's been booked for DUI, hit and run, and also vandalism. It's still unclear exactly what went down leading up to the arrest.

This is Smith's second DUI -- the first was in 2013 -- and he was also hit with weapons charges in 2012. He served 12 days in jail in 2014. The NFL suspended him for 9 games last season.

Law enforcement sources tell us Wes was pulled over for speeding early Wednesday morning in South Dakota. We're told cops determined he was driving under the influence, but it's unclear if he failed a breathalyzer test or field sobriety testing ... or both.

Ever the overachiever, Scantlin was also charged with pot possession.

TMZ broke the story ... Wes was busted in July for DWI in Minnesota after he blew 4x the legal limit

Scantlin is set to perform in SD tonight after getting released on $500 bail.

Flavor Flav

Cops Say He was Coked Up

In DUI Arrest

7/22/2015 1:28 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
Exclusive Details

Flavor Flav’s DUI is way more alarming that anyone thought, because we've learned he was allegedly under the influence of cocaine ...  the drug that almost ruined his life.

Flav was busted back in May for speeding on a Vegas freeway. Cops saw an open Heineken bottle in the center console, and he admitted he had smoked pot "not too long ago." The admission was necessary because the car reeked of weed.

But it got a lot worse when an EMT took his blood at the station ... revealing there was cocaine in his system.

Flav lost his fortune in the '80s after blowing more than $5 million on coke. He said he was spending $2,600 a day for 6 years straight on cocaine.

Very sad.

UFC's Nick Diaz

Hit with Jail Time

... In DUI Cases

7/20/2015 12:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0717-nick-diaz-tmz-01UFC superstar Nick Diaz is headed for the slammer -- but not for long ... after cutting a pretty badass deal in his TWO DUI cases ... TMZ Sports has learned.

As we previously reported, the 31-year-old fighter was arrested for DUI in Lodi, CA back in September ... just one year after he was previously popped for DUI in the same city.

Diaz was facing real jail time if convicted in both cases -- but struck a sweet plea deal with prosecutors in which he pled no contest to DUI with .08 or higher, and in exchange 3 charges were thrown out ... including the second DUI.

He was sentenced to 2 days in jail -- and gets credit for 1 day served ... so he'll be a free man in no time (props to Nick's lawyer).

In addition to the jail time, Diaz also got 3 years of informal probation and must complete a DUI educational course.

Diaz is expected to surrender to authorities and knock out his jail sentence after his next hearing later this month.

Ty Lawson

I'm Going to Rehab

breaking news

NBA star Ty Lawson says he's finally getting treatment -- entering a rehab center for the next 30 days ... after his 2nd DUI arrest this year.

Lawson appeared in court in Denver moments ago for a hearing on his DUI arrest in Colorado back in January ... where a judge ordered him to be on monitored sobriety, instead of a SCRAM bracelet.

What that means is instead of having to wear an ankle bracelet 24/7 which constantly monitors the user's blood alcohol level, he'll have to routinely blow into a stationary B.A.C. monitoring device.

During the hearing, Lawson's lawyer also announced that he will begin treatment at a rehab center in Southern California beginning tomorrow.

TMZ Sports broke the story ... the Denver Nuggets star was arrested for DUI in L.A. earlier this week. He's due in court for that case in August.

Donovan McNabb DUI

Cops Say More Than 2x Legal Limit

7/14/2015 9:35 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Donovan McNabb's DUI arrest just got extreme -- because cops say his blood alcohol level was more than TWICE the legal limit when he was arrested ... TMZ Sports has learned.

As we previously reported, the former NFL superstar was popped in Arizona on June 28 after crashing into another car on the way home from a sports bar.

McNabb INSISTED he had nothing to drink that night -- claiming he had just had some cough medicine to fight a cold

But the officials tell TMZ Sports .... the results from McNabb's blood test are in -- and he registered a .17 ... more than DOUBLE the legal limit, .08.

In fact, anything higher than a .15 in Arizona constitutes an "extreme DUI" -- which brings stiffer penalties if convicted ... especially since it's McNabb's 2nd DUI in Arizona in less than 2 years.

Donovan McNabb

Benches Himself from NBC Radio Gig

... 'Personal Issues'

7/8/2015 2:57 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0708-mcabb-nbc-sports-getty-01Donovan McNabb is stepping away from his NBC sports radio show -- at least temporarily -- to deal with "personal issues" in the wake of his DUI arrest ... TMZ Sports has learned.

McNabb hosts a show called "Under Center" with Mark Malone ... a daily sports talk show on the NBC Sports Radio Network.

But 2 weeks after Donovan's 2nd DUI arrest -- network officials tell us McNabb is taking a break.

"Donovan McNabb is taking immediate leave to address some personal issues, and we support him in this decision," the network tells us.

McNabb WAS on the show yesterday and addressed the arrest -- saying he was "handling the matter." Clearly, he's had a change of heart.

As we previously reported, the former NFL star was arrested for DUI on June 28th in Arizona. It's the 2nd time he's been arrested for DUI in 18 months.

Donovan McNabb

QB Masked Boozy Breath

with Cough Drops

7/8/2015 1:08 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Seems Donovan McNabb tried the ol' boozy breath cover up trick before his DUI -- 'cause cops say he had TWO cough drops in his mouth when they arrived to the crash scene.

In the incident report, obtained by TMZ Sports, cops say McNabb had all of signs of a drunk person when they approached him after he smashed into another car in Arizona on June 28th -- plus one cop said, "I noticed a strong, fruity odor on his breath."

When the officer asked what the smell was, McNabb said he was fighting a cold and had taken Robitussin and was eating 2 cough drops.

Cops asked McNabb to spit out the drops -- he did -- and suddenly, the arresting officer says he could definitely detect a "strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath."

According to the report, McNabb admitted he had been at a local sports bar before the incident -- and was just trying to get home. At one point, he asked if he could just walk back to his house, but insisted he was "good to drive."

Cops didn't believe him and arrested McNabb for DUI -- and things got worse.

As McNabb was walking into the detention area at the police station, he tripped ... another sign he was drunk, cops say.

McNabb didn't take a breathalyzer -- but submitted blood. The results were not included in the report.

But the saddest part ... when the officer was asking D.M. if he understood the booking process, Donovan interrupted him and said, "I know what it means. I've been through this before."

Terrell Owens

Donovan McNabb Needs Help

7/7/2015 10:33 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0707-owens-mcnabb-tmz-01Terrell Owens says he's genuinely worried about his ex-teammate Donovan McNabb -- saying he's lucky the QB didn't kill anyone in his recent DUI arrest and wants him to get help, ASAP.

TMZ Sports spoke with T.O. who says the June 28th arrest should serve as a "wake up call" for the former Philadelphia Eagles star.

"DUI is a very serious thing. The number of lives that have been lost from it are staggering. It's a blessing no one was hurt."

Owens continued, "We may not still be playing, but we still serve as role models. You have to be more responsible."

"Next time, call Uber."

Adrien Broner

Sentenced In 'Rich & Famous' DUI Case

7/7/2015 10:21 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

You won't see boxing superstar Adrien Broner flossin' around in his expensive cars anytime soon -- because his driver's license was JUST suspended as part of his sentence in his DUI case.

TMZ Sports broke the story ... Broner was popped for drunk driving in Ohio back in January -- and during the arrest, bragged that he was rich, famous and made more than $100 MILLION in his boxing career.

Now, we've learned ... Broner struck a deal with prosecutors in which he pled no contest to 1 count of misdemeanor reckless driving -- and was sentenced to 6 months probation, his license has been suspended for 6 months and he has to complete a driver's safety course.

Broner was also sentenced to 30 days in jail ... but most likely won't do the time because that part of his sentence was "suspended" ... meaning it'll only be enforced if he screws up.

So, don't screw up.

Donovan McNabb

Arrested for DUI In AZ ... Again

7/7/2015 9:48 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

Ex-NFL QB Donovan McNabb was popped for DUI in Arizona on June 28th ... the second time he's been arrested for DUI in 2 years.

The Gilbert Police Department says McNabb rear-ended a car that was stopped at a red light around 11:35 PM -- and when cops arrived to the scene, they determined Donovan was drunk.

The 38-year-old was subsequently arrested for DUI and transported to a nearby police station where he was booked, cited and eventually released.

As we previously reported, McNabb was arrested in December 2013 after cops say he was speeding in Maricopa County around 3 AM.  He served 1 day in an AZ jail.

As for what McNabb is facing ... we spoke with John Kelly, a DUI attorney in Arizona, who tells us Donovan is realistically looking at 9 to 10 days in jail if convicted of a normal DUI (the punishment could get a lot worse if his blood alcohol level was "extreme").

Kelly says it's also common for people convicted of a 2nd DUI to have a ignition interlock system put in their car, which requires a breathalyzer test before the user can turn on the vehicle.

In addition, Kelly says McNabb will also face court fines in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.
