Laura Prepon is weighing in a little heavier these days after Ben Foster slipped a diamond engagement ring on her ... which made its debut in NYC.

Ben and Laura have only been together, at least publicly, since the summer, but he popped the question anyway. The "Orange Is the New Black" star strategically positioned her bling Tuesday night at the premiere of her new movie, "The Girl on the Train."

It's Laura's first engagement, and Ben's second. He was engaged to Robin Wright, but they called it off in 2015.

Rihanna's gonna get all wet -- and probably (fake) bloody -- when she steps into the infamous "Psycho" shower, and her "Bates Motel" director is so psyched.

Nestor Carbonell stars on the show, but will also be directing RiRi's upcoming episode where she plays Marion Crane ... the character in that legendary shower stabbing. We got him out in L.A. -- walking his dog -- and tried to find out if he's going for a straight remake or putting a new twist on the scene.

Will Forte's still far away from making life-changing inventions out of household materials in "MacGruber 2" ... despite the panic on the Internet.

The buzz started Monday when Will's co-writer and director, Jorma Taccone, tweeted they were working on a "MacGruber" sequel. Jorma even shared a pic of the "Super Duper Rough" script.

Will tried to downplay the hype when we got him at LAX, saying he has at least one other priority -- but then he slipped into character ... so, yeah. GET EXCIT--

Oscar winning director and writer Curtis Hanson died at a home in the Hollywood Hills Tuesday afternoon ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us paramedics went to the home, responding to a call of an unconscious man. We're told Hanson was pronounced dead at the scene, and it appears to have been a heart attack.

Hanson won an Oscar in 1998 for his "L.A. Confidential" screenplay, which he also directed. He famously directed Eminem's Hollywood debut in "8 Mile" ... as well as "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," "The River Wild" and "In Her Shoes."

Hanson was 71.

Chris Pratt put a "fan" in his place for throwing a hissy fit over missing out on an autograph after Chris took time to sign a whole bunch of 'em.

The autograph seekers were swarming at LAX when Chris -- one of the nicest guys we see around town -- walked to his waiting SUV. You'll see in the video ... he kindly stopped to sign photos, but as he got inside the vehicle things got ugly.

Truth is, many autograph seekers make cash off selling celebrity John Hancocks -- which Chris says he doesn't mind -- but he hit his breaking point when one accused him of being selfish.

The Rock, Kevin Hart and Jack Black are on the wild set of the "Jumanji" remake and it looks like a clash of box office titans.

Woods has been all over Kaep -- and the NFL -- telling our cameras he's boycotting the league for it's refusal to discipline the 49ers QB over his national anthem protest.

But it's Woods' name-calling of Kaepernick on Twitter -- where he called Kaep a "piece Of S@#t" and a "dirtbag" -- that has Smith steaming mad.

Of course, Smith and fellow sprinter John Carlos are the OG's of the sports protest game ... creating an iconic image at the '68 Olympics in Mexico by raising their fists in the air for Black power.

TMZ Sports spoke with Smith and he told us the personal insults aimed at Colin aren't fair ... and because of them, he can no longer support Woods' movie career.

"James Woods used to be one of my favorite actors ... but if he thinks he is dirt because of what he did then I am crossing him of my list because he is wrong."

Smith went on to say he totally disagrees with Woods' view that Kaerpernick's protest is disrespectful ... and is urging the Academy Award nominee to take a hard look at the issues.

Marvin Gaye's son is ready to go to war again in court ... this time to shut down the release of a biopic about his father, which he calls pure trash.

Marvin Gaye III tells TMZ ... no one in his family is backing "Sexual Healing" -- the film music mogul Vassal Benford is producing.

Gaye III's got a lot of problems with what he's seen of the film. He says it's untrue, exploitative, with a ton of holes and worst of all ... doesn't "hold the vibe of my father."

He adds the family's attorney has already been contacted, and -- perhaps buoyed by their success in the "Blurred Lines" case -- they're confident the movie won't see the light of day.

As for Benford, he tells us it's full steam ahead, and several superstars will be involved in recording the soundtrack. He even bought a baller ring as a gift for himself ... to celebrate making the movie.
