Robert Durst Arrested with Latex Mask In Apparent Attempt to Change Identity

Published | Updated

Robert Durst was apparently trying to change his identity with a latex rubber mask and a new name, and that's when authorities swooped in and arrested him ... TMZ has learned.

According to the search warrant, which we obtained, the mask -- which was recovered in the New Orleans hotel room where he was arrested -- covered his head and neck and served to completely alter the characteristics of his face. Cops also found a fake Texas ID with the name Everette Ward.

According to the warrant, Durst was using the mask and ID to flee the country. And get this ... also included in the docs, Durst had more than $42,000 in cash, but the money was in hundred dollar bills, parceled out in various small envelopes.

Authorities believe Durst wanted to use the envelopes to send money to the place where he was fleeing. Cops even found a UPS tracking number in the hotel, which Durst told them was so he could ship a large sum of cash.

The docs say Durst is worth $100 million and he was in the process of planning to ship a lot more than $42k. Authorities obtained bank records showing Durst withdrew $9k a day for 35 consecutive days ($315,000).

Authorities recovered the .38 Smith & Wesson revolver with one spent shell casing and 4 live rounds. It's unclear where the gun was fired.

And finally, police found 3 books in Durst's Houston apartment. Two copies of the same book titled: "A Deadly Secret: The Strange Disappearance of Kathie Durst" -- chronicling the murder of his wife, Kathie. He had 2 copies of the book ... one in paperback and one in hardback.

As we previously reported, Pierce was initially pulled over around 2AM for speeding -- and then bombed his field sobriety test.

In the report, the officer asked Pierce how much he weighs -- and Pierce slurred, "530." The officer pressed him on it and he repeated it twice before correcting himself and saying, "230 pounds."

While he was being taken to a nearby police station, Pierce reportedly uttered, "Do you know what happened the last time a Ravens player got a DUI? I'm getting cut tomorrow, not like you care."

Pierce was clearly referring to Victor Hampton who was arrested for drunk driving in February -- and was later cut by the team.

Robert Durst Arrested for Murder 'The Jinx' May Have Jinxed Him

Published | Updated

Robert Durst -- the man suspected in 3 murders -- may have let his thirst for the spotlight get the better of him, because he's been arrested for a murder profiled on "The Jinx", the show chronicling his crazy life.

Durst was nabbed in New Orleans Saturday for allegedly murdering his friend, Susan Berman. Authorities believe he killed Berman because she knew something about the mysterious death of his wife Kathleen, who disappeared in 1982.

Susan was murdered in 2000. Two days after her death LAPD cops received a letter from someone telling them where Susan's body could be found. Cops now say they've linked the letter to Durst.

The case went cold, but the LAPD reopened it after the HBO show, "The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst," began airing. Durst participated in the show, and there was an air that he got away with something.

Durst has been this route before. He was tried for the murder of a Texas neighbor in 2001, but he was acquitted after claiming self-defense. He claimed he shot the neighbor in the forehead accidentally during a struggle. Durst cut the body apart and dumped it in a bay. The body parts were retrieved in bags, but the head was never found.

Durst's lawyer says he will not fight extradition and will fight the most recent charges.
