Ryan Braun Defends Tim Tebow He Can Make Mets' Roster!

Tim Tebow getting an invite to Mets' spring training is NOT a publicity stunt ... so says Ryan Braun, who tells TMZ Sports the ex-NFL QB has a real chance to make NY's roster!
Of course, a lotta people are saying otherwise ... convinced Tim's only getting the opportunity this year because it draws fans to the Mets' preseason camp.
But, Braun told us out at the California Strong Charity Softball event Sunday he thinks Tim's definitely got the goods to make the Mets' opening day squad.
"I would never count that guy out," the Brewers superstar says. "He's proven that he's the type of dude that can make it in anything he aspires to be great at."
Tim's had a VERY up-and-down baseball career since he gave up football in 2016 ... with the former Heisman Trophy winner having more lows than highs in the Mets' minor league system.
In his four years in the minors, Tebow's batting average is just .223 -- although he did make a prestigious All-Star game during a solid 2018 season.
The Mets appear to be determined to give him every chance to make their roster (this is the 4th straight year they've invited him to camp) and Braun says he wouldn't be surprised to see Tebow finally make The Show this season.
"If you look at the numbers of guys who make it to the minor leagues, it's so difficult to ever get to the Major Leagues," Braun says.
"But, being at Big League camp, being that he's a tremendous athlete -- he's an all-time competitor -- I certainly wouldn't count him out."

Tim Tebow will get yet another shot to play in the big leagues ... the NY Mets just announced they invited the former NFL QB to their spring training camp for the 4th straight year.
Tebow's been trying to make it to The Show since 2016 ... when he decided to quit playing football to pursue the chance of being the MLB's next big slugger.
But, the road has been pretty rocky for the former Heisman Trophy winner ... in the 2016 and 2017 seasons in the Mets' minor league system, he stunk up the diamond.
2018 was MUCH more promising for the ex-NFL first-round pick ... he batted .273 and hit 6 home runs in 84 games -- but his year was cut short because of a broken hand.
Last season, meanwhile, was another down year for Tim ... he batted just .163 in 77 games and was forced to miss most of the season yet again because of another hand injury.
But, the Mets seem determined to give him every chance in the world to make their Opening Day roster ... 'cause the invite they handed down to him Friday is no joke.
Tebow was 1 of 8 non-roster invitees to the Mets' 2020 Spring Training camp ... and the other seven dudes that got the coveted honor are LEGIT prospects.
So, with Tebow being treated like one of the org's best ... could this be the year he gets Big League ABs???
Stay tuned ...

Yankees' Domingo German Suspended 81 Games After Dom. Violence Probe
-
Breaking News

New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German was just hit with an 81-game suspension ... this after the MLB concluded its investigation into allegations he committed domestic violence.
German was placed on administrative leave back in September after Major League Baseball was notified the 27-year-old had allegedly been involved in an altercation with his significant other.
Details of the allegations are unclear -- no police report was ever filed -- but what is known is the MLB clearly found the accusations to be credible.
"Having reviewed all of the available evidence," commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday, "I have concluded that Mr. German violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate."
According to the MLB, German will NOT appeal the punishment ... and has agreed to make a contribution to "Sanctuary for Families" -- a New York-area charity helping victims of domestic violence -- in addition to serving the ban.
Per multiple reports, the 81-game suspension is one of the most aggressive penalties EVER levied against an MLB player for dom. violence.
The suspension is retroactive ... meaning since German missed 18 games for the alleged incident in 2019, he'll only be required to sit the first 63 games of next season.
"Domestic violence — in any form — is a gravely serious matter that affects every segment of our society," the Yankees said in a statement. "Major League Baseball has taken the lead in our industry to make domestic violence awareness and prevention a priority, and we will continue to back those efforts."
"We are encouraged by Domingo’s acceptance of his discipline, and we sincerely hope this indicates a commitment to making a meaningful and positive change in his personal conduct."
German was a star for the Yanks this past year, winning 18 games with 153 strikeouts in 143 innings.

“Don Larsen’s perfect game in Game Five of the 1956 World Series at Yankee Stadium is one of the most memorable achievements in the history of our National Pastime."
"His unexpected performance on that Monday afternoon has remained unique for 63 years and counting. On a team of many stars, Don illustrated that anyone can make history – even perfection – on our sport’s biggest stage."
"On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and the fans he touched during his life in our great game.”
Don Larsen -- the only pitcher in MLB history to ever throw a perfect game in the World Series -- died Wednesday ... Major League Baseball announced.
Larsen's agent, Andrew Levy, told the Associated Press the ex-New York Yankee passed away due to esophageal cancer. He was 90 years old.
Larsen pitched for seven different teams during his 14-year MLB career from 1953-1967 ... but it was his performance in the 1956 World Series that he'll be forever remembered for.
The right-hander tossed a perfect game -- no hits and no walks allowed -- against the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 5 of the Fall Classic. He was later named MVP of the series.
Larsen ended his baseball career with an 81-91 all-time record, and finished with a career 3.78 ERA and 849 strikeouts in 1548.0 innings pitched.

3:18 PM PT -- Rich Hill just responded to the news about his arrest ... and he says while he still respects law enforcement, he just couldn't stand by and watch his wife get cuffed for trying to bring a fanny pack into the stadium.
Rich goes on to say, "This was all overblown and we are glad to have it behind us." His attorney, Francis T. O'Brien of O'Brien Law Boston, backs his client up by saying things never should've escalated to the point they did, but also gives props to the D.A. for essentially backing off. He calls it a "fair and proper resolution," saying the matter is closed.
Former Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill and his wife got busted by cops this weekend at a Patriots game ... TMZ Sports has confirmed.
Law enforcement sources tell us Hill and his spouse, Caitlin McClellan, were arrested Saturday outside of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA before kickoff ... because they were trying to enter the facility with an oversized bag and then refusing to leave the grounds.
We're told Foxboro PD instructed Hill and McClellan they couldn't come in with the bag they were trying to bring along. Cops are saying the missus tried sneaking in through other gates after repeatedly being told "no."
After allegedly refusing to leave the grounds, cops arrested her for disorderly conduct and trespassing -- and as they were putting her into a car ... Hill himself allegedly got involved and attempted to intervene. He got arrested too ... they were both taken to a station for booking.
Gerrit Cole My Beard's Gone!!! ... Follows Yankees' Orders
-
Breaking News

Here it is ... the FIRST picture of Gerrit Cole as a New York Yankee sans his famous beard -- and we gotta say, IT LOOKS WEIRD!!!
The new Yanks' ace adhered to team policy ahead of his introductory press conference Wednesday ... ditching his face fur for the first time in a LONG time.
You can see the 29-year-old looks about 5 years younger ... and if you saw his reaction to being forced to chop off his scruff earlier this week -- ya can tell he was dreading this moment.
But, Cole does kinda look fresh ... and seeing as he had about 324 MILLION reasons to pick up the razor this week, it was probably a good call.
As for his long hair, doesn't seem Cole's got around to cuttin' that down just yet ... but it looks like Yankees' brass might let it slide if he goes with a little product in it.
By the way, the press conference is still ongoing ... but it's pretty clear the Yanks are STOKED to have the guy in pinstripes for the next 9 years ... GM Brian Cashman even handed Cole's wife a bouquet of roses!!
Oh, and Cole even showed up with the same sign he brought to Yankee Stadium when he was a fan of the team as a kid!!
Welcome to NY!

Terry Francona had BOTH his World Series rings jacked last month ... but cops say they recovered the prized jewelry and just arrested the alleged scumbag accused of the heist!
Back on Nov. 7, the Pima County Sheriff's Dept. says it responded to Francona's Tucson, Arizona-area home after the legendary MLB manager reported a theft.
When officers arrived, they say the two World Series rings Tito won when he was the Boston Red Sox manager in 2004 and 2007 were stolen.
Cops say they discovered a $245,830 check intended for Francona had also been taken and fraudulently deposited by someone else earlier this year as well.
But, good news ... officials say they recovered Tito's jewelry at a sports memorabilia store just a few miles away in Phoenix -- saying the suspect had sold them to the store after the burglary.
And, in even better news ... cops say they arrested the thief late Tuesday night.
The suspect is 33-year-old Jamey Estep ... and he's been hit with felony charges of 2nd-degree burglary, theft and trafficking for his alleged role in the heist.
All total, the guy is facing YEARS behind bars if he's convicted of the crimes.
As for 60-year-old Francona, he issued a statement Tuesday saying, "I am incredibly grateful to the effort that the Pima County Sherriff’s Department has put forth in this."
He added, "Beyond that I can’t comment because it’s an open investigation."

MLB Agent Scott Boras On $1 Billion In Contracts ... 'It's a Great Thrill!!!'
-
Exclusive
How do you celebrate closing roughly $1 BILLION in MLB contracts in one short offseason?!?
That's the question we posed to MLB superagent Scott Boras -- and while he's trying to downplay the historic impact of his work, you can tell he's pretty fired up!
FYI, Boras is arguably the most powerful agent in pro sports ... at least judging by the deals he's negotiated in the past couple of weeks.
Gerrit Cole signed a $324 million contract with the Yankees. Anthony Rendon inked a $245 mil deal with the Angels. Stephen Strasburg's getting $245 mil from the Nationals. And Mike Moustakas got $64 mil with the Reds.
So far, Boras' clients are at $878 mil in contract money this off-season -- and with Hyun-Jin Ryu, Dallas Keuchel and Nicholas Castellanos expected to close deals soon, Boras should easily pass the $1 BILLION mark.
"It’s really a great thrill," Boras told us at Reagan National Airport in Virginia.
"The biggest celebration is that you get to call the players you represent and let them know that something they’ve worked so hard for is complete."
Boras has a reputation for being a pretty hard-nosed negotiator -- so we asked if there are teams that are afraid to deal with him out of fear they'll have to break their piggy banks to get SB's clients.
"Oh, I don’t think anybody is [afraid]. When you represent great players everybody wants to talk with you."
There's more ... we also spoke with Scott about Bernie Sanders, who recently tweeted about the deal Boras inked for Gerrit Cole -- "If pitchers can make $324 million, we can pay every teacher in this country at least $60,000."
Gerrit Cole Breaks Silence On Yankees Signing ... Beard Shaving & $324 Mil Contract!
-
Exclusive Details

Gerrit Cole has arrived in NYC -- and here's the first video of the superstar pitcher talking about his new team, his new $324 million deal ... and the Yanks famous NO-BEARD policy!
The 29-year-old was swarmed by fans on the way into the Mandarin Hotel in New York where he signed baseballs, posed for selfies and was super nice to the media.
The questions were rapid-fire ... but here's the gist of it.
-- Cole says signing with the Yanks was a hard decision, which is shocking considered he had 324 MILLION reasons to put pen to paper.
-- Cole explained why he's excited to be a part of one of the most storied franchises in all of pro sports ... "The history. The fans. Competitiveness."
-- And, the beard ... that famous, beautiful beard? He seems to be coming to terms with the fact it's a goner.
We asked Gerrit if he would try and keep his scruff or if he would embrace the Yanks decades-long, clean-cut tradition.
"That's nuts," Cole said ... before saying he would "unfortunately" part ways with his face-warmer. (At least that's what it sounded like he told us. It was super loud.)
The Yankees' courtship of Cole has been one of the biggest stories in baseball ... the guy had a ton of suitors in free agency these past few weeks -- from the Yanks to the Dodgers to the Angels. Everyone was willing to throw insane amounts of cash at him.
Of course, Cole ultimately landed with NY ... and despite him saying it wasn't the easiest choice ever -- he added he's sure as hell happy he made it.
Cole's official welcome press conference is set for Tuesday -- so enjoy the beard while you still can.

That's the deal Josh Donaldson made with his mom ... and when the MLB superstar paid up his side of the bet with the $70,000 whip -- Momma Donaldson's reaction was PRICELESS!!!
The Atlanta Braves stud says he made the pact with his mom a couple of years ago ... saying if she cut out cigarettes, he'd deliver a pricey ride as a present.
Well, sometime recently, she reached the two-year clean mark ... so he filmed himself giving her the Maserati, and the footage is amazing.
