HIS WORK LIVES ON

Bob Saget wasn't just "America's Dad," he filled that role in the stand-up comedy community too, always going above and beyond for fellow comics ... according to Adam Carolla.

The comedian and radio personality joined us Monday on "TMZ Live" and talked about Bob's legacy ... the one that was going on behind the scenes at comedy clubs across the country. As Adam put it, "Comedy attracts a lot of broken toys, sometimes ... but it also attracts some really interesting, deep, loving people. And, Bob was just one of them.”

Bob and Adam have a history of performing at the same stand-up events ... Bob also appeared on Adam's podcast "The Adam Corolla Show". And, though Bob's death is a huge, huge loss in comedy and television, Adam says, in a way, he will live on forever.

"I was listening to his last podcast today, hearing his voice as if he was still here ... and I thought in a weird way ... do you really die anymore?” He said in this day and age with podcasts, hours of shows tweets etc., "In a way, you can go back and get to know Bob Saget all over again".

DEEPLY SADDENED

Tributes are still pouring in for Bob from folks like D.L. Hughley, who we ran into at LAX. He reminisced about the last time he saw Bob -- coincidentally they were on their way to Orlando and both staying at the Ritz hotel ... where Bob would eventually die.

Check out the clip, D.L. told us about some "amazing" things Bob did on stage ... and off. He said, "He was a great stand-up comedic and an even better guy".

Bob Saget Talked Recent COVID Struggles ... On Podcast a Week Ago

UNDER THE WEATHER

Bob Saget's recent bout with COVID-19 was fresh on his mind not too long before he died ... this according to the late comedian himself.

BS appeared on a podcast called "A Corporate Time with Tom & Dan" just last week and revealed he had already caught the 'rona. He wasn't specific about exactly when, but it sounded kinda recent, considering he was humorously debating whether he had omicron or delta.

Check it out ... Bob describes the virus as "not good," and cracks some jokes about which strain he might've had. He also explained what it was like performing comedy during the pandemic, saying audiences would often be dwindled down by at least half.

Eerily, he also jokingly said he might die from COVID.

Another topic brought up here is Bob's friend, Norm Macdonald, who died last year from cancer. He said there's dignity in the way NM handled his diagnosis, keeping it secret from almost everyone he knew.

Bob actually sounded ill on the phone, which the hosts noted once he left the chat. It's not clear if he was still under the weather while on the road there in Florida -- this podcast was recorded just after the New Year.

We've reached out to Saget's reps for clarification on when he had COVID, but no word back yet.

So far, there's no known cause of death -- cops say there was no evidence of foul play or drug use in the hotel room where Bob was found.

Bob Saget Dead at 65

Published | Updated
UPDATE

5:59 PM PT -- Bob's longtime friend and costar John Stamos just tweeted the following, "I am broken. I am gutted.  I am in complete and utter shock.  I will never ever have another friend like him.  I love you so much Bobby."

UPDATE

5:03 PM PT -- The Orange County Sheriff's Office tells us, "We have no information on cause of death, and detectives have found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case." They note, "the Medical Examiner’s Office will make the final call on the cause and manner of death."

Bob Saget has died at the age of 65 ... TMZ has learned.

Multiple sources connected to the iconic comedian and actor -- most famous for his starring role as Danny Tanner in 'Full House' -- tell us he passed away Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando.

The Sheriff's Department and the fire department responded to the hotel around 4 PM ET ... after hotel security had found Bob in his room. We're told he was pronounced dead on the scene, but the circumstances of his death are still unclear.

Bob's been touring the country lately, hitting a lot of destinations throughout the state of Florida, including in Orlando, which got started in September and was supposed to take him through May.

On Saturday night, he was in Jacksonville doing a show at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall ... where he actually shouted out the crowd early Sunday morning.

Saget wrote, "Loved tonight’s show @PV_ConcertHall in Jacksonville. Appreciative audience. Thanks again to @RealTimWilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a 2 hr set tonight. I’m happily addicted again to this shit. Check http://BobSaget.com for my dates in 2022."

Saget played the patriarch on the hit ABC sitcom for almost 10 years, landing the lead star role in 1987 and finishing out its first iteration in '95 -- opposite stars John Stamos, Dave Coulier, of course ... not to mention his TV daughters, Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin as well as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who swapped the duties of portraying Michelle.

While his turn as the quintessential family man is what a lot of people will remember him for -- truth is, Saget was a pretty raunchy guy ... especially in his stand-up comedy. BS's comedy contributions were put on full display in his memorable Comedy Central roast ... where a ton of his longtime comic buddies tore him a new one, kiddingly and with love.

He proved to be a good sport ... taking shots from the likes of Gilbert Gottfried, Norm Macdonald, Greg Giraldo, Jon Lovitz, Jeff Ross, Brian Posehn and others. He even had some jokes of his own to fire off ... making for perhaps one of the most memorable roasts in the Comedy Central vault -- speaking to Saget's influence on the craft.

In addition to his stand-up and 'Full House' fame ... Saget will also be remembered as a fan fave on "America's Funniest Home Videos," of which he served as host from '89 to '97, running concurrently with his time/tone on 'FH.' Speaking of Mr. Tanner ... he reprised his role for Netflix's reboot of the franchise, "Fuller House," which ran for 4 years and ended in 2020.

Bob's other notable acting credits include ... a recurring role on 'Entourage,' in which he played a zany version of himself, the narrator's voice of 'How I Met Your Mother,' another sitcom he starred in called 'Raising Dad,' one of the penguins in "Farce of the Penguins," the lead in "Surviving Suburbia," and a standout cameo in 'Half Baked' as a recovering crack head ... among many, many other appearances on film and television over the years.

Lately, he's been getting back to his roots with a podcast series called "Bob Saget's Here for You," and was even featured as one of the celebrity guests on the "Masked Singer" not too long ago.

The last time we got him out was in late 2019, when he was laughing it up with fans and paps outside of Craig's in West Hollywood ... while also taking photos and signing autographs.

LAST TIME WE SAW HIM...

He wished Jeff Ross a happy 41st birthday, and seemed to be in really good spirits.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kelly Rizzo, and 3 children.

Bob Saget Poignant Tribute to Betty White ... Days Before His Death

Published | Updated

In a sad coincidence, many of the things being said about Bob Saget today are the same things he said about Betty White as he honored the late comedic actress ... just days before he died in an Orlando hotel.

Bob reflected on the decades he'd been connected to Betty -- from the first time he saw her perform to hanging out with her -- in an IG post from December 31, the day she passed.

He wrote, "I had a small peek into what a remarkable talent and human being Betty was."

He also joked about one time when they were sipping Bloody Mary's on an ABC Jet ... "We had been laughing for hours -- I looked into her eyes and faux romantically said, 'How ‘bout it, Betty, you and me in the bathroom? Mile High Club?' She answered me before I had a chance to finish the invite -- 'Of course.'"

And, it seems eerie now, but Bob ended the post with some words on the afterlife ... "I don’t know what happens when we die, but if Betty says you get to be with the love of your life, then I happily defer to Betty on this."

TMZ broke the story ... the "Full House" star died Sunday at the age of 65. He was found unresponsive in his room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando. There were no signs of drug use or foul play, according to detectives.

For almost 10 years, Saget starred as Tanner on the hit ABC sitcom "Full House" ... and he also famously hosted "American's Funniest Home Videos" from '89 to '97.

Bob's death came 10 days after Betty's, who was just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday, and was beloved around the world for her career ... most prominently as a star on "The Golden Girls" and the "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

Now, both actors will be remembered for their impact on American television and, of course, the time they spent making others laugh.

Pete Davidson Bob Saget Helped Me Through Rough Mental Struggles

Published | Updated

Tributes have been pouring in about Bob Saget, and how he touched so many lives, but few are as poignant as Pete Davidson's .. who says Bob stepped up for him during some pretty dark times.

Pete does not hop on social media -- period, but he made an exception for Bob, whom he called "one of the nicest men on the planet."

Pete wrote, "When I was younger and several times throughout our friendship he helped me get through some rough mental health stuff."

But, it wasn't just a "Hey, how ya doin'" call. Pete says Bob was genuinely concerned and wanted to help ... "He stayed on the phone with my mom for hours trying to help in anyway he can -- connecting us with doctors and new things we can try. He would check in on me and make sure I was okay."

It's one of a slew of tributes to Bob. TMZ broke the story, he died Sunday in an Orlando hotel room at age 65.

Pete ended this way ... "I love you Bob. It was an honor to know you.  Thank you for your kindness and friendship. My condolences to the family."

Bob Saget Life & Career in Retrospect ... After Sudden Death

Published | Updated

Bob Saget's death is spurring a dissection of his life -- and it's clear ... the guy lived it to the fullest, especially on a professional level.

The comedian got his start in showbiz doing stand-up comedy at a young age, and after moving to L.A. as an adult ... he eventually landed a gig on CBS' 'The Morning Program' ... which was supposed to compete with NBC's 'Today Show' and ABC's 'Good Morning America' ... and which eventually became 'CBS This Morning.'

Bob did comedy routines during his short stint there, and before long ... he was cast as Danny Tanner in ABC's new sitcom 'Full House,' which launched him into full-blown stardom.

He played the widowed father of 3 young girls, and got help raising them in San Francisco from good friends played by John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) and Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone). His TV kids were played by Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

'Full House' became a smash hit on the network, and ran for a total of 8 seasons through 1995. At the same time, Bob landed yet another job when he was tapped as the first host for 'America's Funniest Home Videos' in 1989. BS served as the MC for several seasons until he passed the baton in '97, 2 years after 'Full House' went off the air.

It was during this run in the '90s that Bob became one of "America's dads" ... due to his wholesome persona on camera, and actually playing a well-to-do father on television.

Of course, Bob in real life was anything but squeaky clean ... his stand-up act was known to be pretty raunchy. Going into the 2000s, Bob sorta revamped his image a bit, churning out movies and series that reflected his more adult comedy,

That was especially true of his directorial debut in the film "Dirty Work," starring his friend/fellow comedian Norm Macdonald and "Howard Stern Show" staple Artie Lange.

BTK Killer I'm a Good Person Who Did Some Bad Things ... Stunning Documentary Chronicles Murders

Published | Updated

BTK killer Dennis Rader has a take on himself ... he's both a monster and a good guy.

Rader appears on a new, Dick Wolf documentary on A&E -- "BTK: Confession of a Serial Killer" -- in which he chats with a psychologist about his killing spree and the motivations behind it.

The self-proclaimed BTK killer says he is indeed a "monster," but also a "good person who did some bad things." BTK, by the way, is short for bind, torture, kill.

As you know, Rader, a church leader, pled guilty in 2005 to killing 10 people to satisfy his sexual fantasies .... and the spree lasted from 1974 to 1991.

The psychologist, Dr. Katherine Ramsland, spent a decade interacting with Rader. They corresponded, spoke by phone and sometimes in person at the maximum-security prison where Rader will spend the rest of his days.

Dr. Ramsland says Rader's story doesn't line up with the public perception of serial killers ... "Dennis Rader challenges the idea we have about serial killers. He was a family man. He was a churchgoer, even a president of his church congregation. He had a full-time job. He was part of his community. So we have to be careful about some of the stereotypes we form about these kinds of offenders."

She goes on ... "In Dennis’ case, there wasn’t any particular reason in his background. No trauma. He was an all-American boy, the oldest of four boys in his family. He had an intact family and played on his farm. So where did it all come from?'

And, the psychologist says, Rader viewed himself as a victim once he was captured.

Here's how she says Rader processed his deeds ... "He will talk about a monster in his brain. It’s his "Factor X," which is a way to distance himself from criminal responsibility. He thinks, for the most part, he’s not a monster. He certainly was in those instances when he selected a victim and carried through with his crimes. But overall, he doesn’t think of himself that way."

Josh Altman No Open House For Betty White's Crib ... IF It Ever Hits Market

Published

Josh Altman says Betty White's home will never get the open house treatment -- or at least it shouldn't -- if and when her family decides to put it up for sale.

We got the 'Million Dollar Listing' star on Robertson Blvd. in Beverly Hills, and asked what a potential sale of Betty's longtime home in Brentwood might look like, and his answer is ... it wouldn't look like much to the general public.

Josh says that's because any realtor worth their salt would make sure to screen any potential buyer before setting foot in the home. He says when it comes to high-profile properties, they always weed out superfans just looking to snap a few pics.

Even folks who meet the pre-screening criteria would have some dos and don'ts when checking out Betty's home in person -- Josh says taking photos would be on the don't list.

TMZ broke the story ... Betty passed away at her home on the final morning of 2021, and fans quickly flocked the property to leave flowers outside the gate.

Josh says Betty's home would probably sell for a pretty penny, mainly due to the location ... but he also puts a dollar figure on what her name alone means for a potential asking price. It's a lot!!!

MAKING HISTORY

Amy Schneider is on a roll ... she just became the 4th player in "Jeopardy!" history to rake in more than $1 mil in non-tournament play, and she's still in the game!!!

Amy, the first transgender contestant to qualify for the show's Tournament of Champions, won her 28th game on the show that aired Friday night, taking her winnings north of $1M ... to be specific, $1,019,001.

She was stoked, saying, "It feels amazing, it feels strange. It's not a sum of money I ever anticipated would be associated with my name."

Amy has now won more loot than any other female contender, and she's now the record-holder for most consecutive wins by a female contestant.

She joins 3 others who broke the million-dollar mark -- Ken Jennings, who pocketed $2,520,700, James Holzhauer, who scored $2,462,216, and Matt Amodio, who won $1,518,601.

Amy's had a tough time recently, after getting robbed a few days ago.  She said, "Hi all! So, first off: I'm fine, But I got robbed yesterday, lost my ID, credit cards, and phone. I then couldn't really sleep last night, and have been dragging myself around all day trying to replace everything."

It's unclear if the robber/robbers knew she was on a "Jeopardy!" winning streak.

She also fell ill after the robbery. But, things are clearly looking up.

Amy's back on the show Monday. Good luck!!!

Emma Roberts & Garrett Hedlund Sell Hillside Home for $2 Mil ... Consolidating the Fam???

Published

Garrett Hedlund and Emma Roberts are outta the L.A. pad he bought before they hooked up, as they settle into parenthood in a new hood ... TMZ has learned.

Garrett stands to make a little dough off the 3 bedroom, 3 bath home he purchased in 2017 for $1.6 million. We're told he just sold it for $2 mil and the new owner's getting a charming Los Felix spot -- originally built in the 1920s -- with lots of updates.

The main living area features a fireplace, beamed ceilings, French floors and other cozy accents.

The house sits on a hillside, so the backyard patio is a great area for outdoor entertaining ... with plenty of shade from surrounding trees.

As you may know, Garrett and Emma started dating back in 2019, and last year they had their first kid together ... a baby boy they named Rhodes.

Not long after she gave birth, Emma scooped up a 3 bedroom house in Hollywood, reportedly for just over $3 mil -- and we're guessing this is where the couple will be co-parenting and co-residing, now that Garrett's unloaded his bachelor pad.

Anthony Paradise of Sotheby’s International Realty held the listing on Garrett's place.

'CATFISH' MAX JOSEPH NOT BACK FOR REBOOT ... Despite Nev-Fueled Rumors

Published | Updated

Nev Schulman is not reuniting with his longtime TV partner Max Joseph for the next season of 'Catfish' ... even though Nev made fans think it was happening.

Here's the deal, Nev posted a video on social media Tuesday showing him goofing off with Max and promoting the reality show's upcoming return, leading to a flood of comments from folks freaking out about Max potentially being involved or asking if he was in the fold.

But, our sources tell us Max is NOT returning to the show or appearing on any episodes this season.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

We're told Nev and Max have remained friends over the years and the video was shot Monday night while the duo was kicking it in Los Angeles.

TMZ broke the story ... Max quit the MTV show, which he helped create and host for 7 years, back in 2018 to pursue a career in filmmaking.

It sounds like the door is open should Max ever get the 'Catfish' hosting itch ... our sources say Nev would love to have him back in the future, if that's something Max would ever want to do.

'Catfish' is coming back Wednesday night on MTV ... with Nev and Kamie Crawford as hosts, and -- thanks to the pandemic -- the whole season was produced remotely.

Golden Globes 2022 No Audience, Celebs in Attendance Show Will Highlight Plan to Improve Diversity

Published

The Golden Globes are, indeed, happening this year -- but there'll be some major changes ... including where you can catch it, and who will (or won't, rather) be there to bear witness.

A release Tuesday states the Globes are going to be livestreamed this year, where winners will be announced for their respective categories. The big difference, of course, is that NBC will not be carrying the broadcast ... nor will any other major network.

There also won't be a large audience or any celebs in attendance.

You'll recall ... the NBC decision came down last year after some diversity controversy caused by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which many felt hadn't done enough by 2021's show to nominate more people of color -- something they vowed to fix and work on going forward. It even became a running (awkward) gag throughout last year's ceremony.

They've made some strides since then ... but not nearly in enough time to find another home.

During the show, Kyle Bowser, Senior Vice President of the NAACP Hollywood Bureau will break down the "Reimagine Coalition," a movement to increase diversity across the entertainment biz. The coalition is a five-year initiative.

Of course, there will still be COVID precautions in place for the few who are able to attend and present, including proof of vax AND booster as well as a negative PCR test.

Besides that, we're told it'll be host-less and spectator-less ... this despite the fact there are some huge names up for awards. Some notable ones ... Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington, Mahershala Ali, Nicole Kidman, just to name a few.

However, the main focus of the show will be on the orgs the HFPA has worked with and sponsored over the years.

You see, there's a lot of licensing money HFPA gains from broadcasting the program, which it then dishes out to different charities. Because that won't be happening in 2022, we're told HFPA brass is banking on people's generosity so they can continue helping others.

Tyra Banks Sells Pacific Palisades Home

Published | Updated

Tyra Banks ended the year by flipping another mansion in Pacific Palisades ... which is kinda becoming her thing, you know, next to the whole supermodel gig.

Tyra sold a 5-bedroom estate in the affluent coastal community on the west side of Los Angeles in the final days of 2021, with the sale price coming in at $7,895,000 ... which is what she was asking for the pad.

The place is 6,160 square feet and comes with all the bells and whistles ... including a home gym, office and media room with a giant 120-inch projection screen.

The rooftop deck features 360-degree views of the ocean, coastline and skyline, and it comes with its own outdoor kitchen, spa, fire pit and multiple seating areas.

Oh, and there's also an infinity-edge pool with limestone and a cascading waterfall backdrop on the terrace.

It's the fifth place Tyra's flipped in Pacific Palisades since 2018 ... and seems to be the final.

James Respondek of Rodeo Realty and Heidi Lake of Sotheby's International Realty had the listing.

'RHOA's Porsha Williams Fists Fly ... During Brawl With Ex-Fiancé Dennis

Published | Updated

There's certainly no love lost between 'RHOA' alum Porsha Williams and her ex-fiancé Dennis McKinley ... who got into a shouting match that turned physical.

Porsha, friends and family -- including Dennis -- were all vacationing in Mexico during an episode of her show "Porsha Family Matters" Sunday night ... and things quickly went from 0 to 100 during dinner.

The argument first started earlier in the trip after Dennis was called out for cheating on Porsha when the two were together ... but things escalated at dinner when the fight continued after Dennis told Porsha's cousin, Storm, to back off.

While it starts out verbal, things get physical after it appears Dennis lunged at Porsha. Fists fly, and cast members -- including Porsha's friend Simone -- step in to try and separate the two.

However, fans will need to wait till the next episode to see how things end, as the episode came to a cliff-hanger ending before all was resolved.

Dennis and Porsha split in late 2020, but have a 2-year-old daughter together ... seems like it could be a bumpy road ahead when it comes to co-parenting.
