Demi Lovato's decision to seek treatment came after she punched a dancer who appeared on "America's Best Dance Crew" ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ ... Alex Welch was on the receiving end of Demi's blow. Welch is a backup dancer on the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert Tour. She was also a member of Beat Freaks, which got the runner-up title on season 3 of "America's Best Dance Crew."

We're told Welch -- who had a pretty nasty shiner from the incident -- has been talking to lawyers and is considering legal action.

Sources close to Demi say she feels "awful" about her behavior and took personal responsibility for it by leaving the tour and seeking help.

Demi Lovato Bullying is the Root Problem

Published | Updated

The issues that Disney superstar Demi Lovato is hoping to tackle in her treatment center all stem from a painful history of being bullied ... sources extremely close to the singer tell TMZ.

We're told Demi's issues with bullies go all the way back to middle school -- where she felt her acting career made her a target. Our sources say Demi subsequently engaged in self-destructive behavior that is a manifestation of being bullied.

In fact -- back in 2008, Demi told Ellen DeGeneres that she was bullied so badly in 7th grade, she pulled out of her middle school and switched to a home school program.

As we first reported, Lovato just quit her international concert tour with the Jonas Brothers ... and admitted herself into a treatment center for "emotional and physical issues."

Warren Sapp Too Aggressive for Miami

Published | Updated

Former NFL havoc-wreaker Warren Sapp was busted by a cop driving a minivan yesterday morning -- after the QB killa got a little too aggressive on the mean streets of Miami.

Warren tells us he was in the far left lane on a Miami freeway when he tried to change into the center lane ... at the same time that a cop decided to change into the same lane.

Warren says he saw the cop and tried to speed up to "safely make the lane change" -- and that's when the cop flipped on his lights and took Warren down.

Sapp was cited for "aggressive driving" and sent along his way ... and of course, the future Hall of Famer went right to his Twitter page and wrote, "Ever Been Pulled Over By a Mini-van? I Just Did."

Stamos: Extortion Case Was 'Celebrity Bashing Circus'

Published | Updated

John Stamos fired off a scathing letter to the judge who sentenced a couple for extorting him -- saying "lying and inventing stories" was their only strategy in court.

TMZ obtained a copy of the letter -- which was read aloud today during the sentencing of Allison Coss and Scott Sippola -- Stamos asked the judge to make an example of the couple ... "This is an opportunity to send a public message that extortion and perjury will not be tolerated."

Stamos added, "They were caught turning the courtroom into a celebrity bashing circus. I was forced to watch the defendant slander me at trial with impunity."

John asked the court for $15,000 for attorney's fees, but the judge shot him down.

Coss and Sippola were sentenced today to four years in prison.

Universal Pulls 'Gay' Movie Trailer

Published | Updated

Bowing to growing outrage from the likes of Anderson Cooper, Universal Pictures has decided to pull the trailer for the movie "The Dilemma" -- and replace it with a new one some time today ... Universal tells TMZ.

The trailer in question begins with Vince Vaughn telling a room full of people, "Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars ... are gay." Sources at Universal Pictures told Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke they showed the trailer to gay rights groups beforehand, including GLAAD, and didn't get any negative feedback.

But after Anderson complained on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," we're told the studio folded like a cheap suit.

A rep for Universal Pictures tells TMZ, "The teaser trailer for 'The Dilemma' was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced. A full trailer, which has been in the works for some time, will post online later today."

Now if only they can make the movie seem funny.

UPDATE: GLAAD tells TMZ they called on Universal to remove the clip from the trailer last month. A rep tells TMZ, "The use of the word ‘gay’ in this trailer as a slur is unnecessary and does nothing more than send a message of intolerance about our community to viewers."

Scott Disick and Khloe jumped into the fracas and in the scuffle, Khloe's ring flew off and skidded across the floor. Our spies inside the club say Khloe literally dove across the floor to retrieve it ... which she eventually did.

Our video shows the Kardashians leaving the club, covering their faces, as they beat a hasty retreat.

One caution: They're in NYC filming their show, so take it for what you will.

Waltman's rep says the wrestler got robbed the night before at a party -- so he showed up at the airport the next day without ID.

We're told the ID-less Waltman had to go through an "extensive search" -- which allegedly turned up one joint.

According to the rep, Waltman was released from custody Sunday night.

Sources tell TMZ the "Jersey Shore" money machine scored a $400,000 signing bonus to be the spokesman for a vodka company called Devotion.

But this ain't no ordinary booze -- Devotion contains a clear protein called Casein ... which can support an increase in lean body mass and a decrease in body fat if the user is also on some sort of weight training program.

We're told The Sitch's brother, Marc Sorrentino, brokered the deal through the company they run together, MPS Entertainment.

As we previously reported, Sitch is expected to rake in $5 million this year -- we're guessin' he'll drink to that.

Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi got together last night to secretly tape an interview that ended abruptly when Jake exploded in anger -- and a source tells TMZ this isn't the first time.

Jake and Vienna were talking about their breakup during the taping when Jake lost his temper -- and reportedly cocked his arm and made a fist in Vienna's direction.

A source close to Vienna claims Jake "has a really bad hidden temper. He snaps all the time, it was just the first time he did it in front of people."

Jake and Vienna had to be separated on the set and the interview was pretty much over before it began.

Jake's rep hasn't responded to calls yet. No word if there will be a second take on the interview.

UPDATE: A production insider tells us Vienna was interrupting Jake constantly during the taping ... "Chris Harrison had to tell her over and over again to let him talk."

The insider also says "Vienna was in such a rage, if there was anyone to fear it was her."

Vienna Stopped Sleeping with Jake on Saturday

Published | Updated

Vienna Girardi packed up her stuff and moved out of Jake Pavelka's home on Saturday -- days before the couple officially announced their split ... TMZ has learned.

TMZ spoke with Vienna's stepmom Lisa -- who Jake tried to "win over" on "The Bachelor." Lisa claims that not only was Jake a total fraud ... but she insinuates that he was only motivated by ratings and not love.

Lisa claims, "I don’t think [Jake] ever really loved her ... I think he picked her because she is a dramatic person and it was good for the ratings.”

Lisa also claims Jake would often exaggerate about his relationship with Vienna in public ... saying, "In real life, they never kissed, didn’t have a romantic relationship and he never told her that he loved her."

Dwyane Wade: 'Foreplay' Lawsuit Is Total BS

Published | Updated

Dwyane Wade claims he's "saddened" and "shocked" by a new lawsuit filed by his estranged wife -- in which she claims the NBA star is damaging their children by engaging in "sexual foreplay" with his new girlfriend in public.

The woman behind the lawsuit is Siohvaughn Wade -- the mother of Dwyane's two sons. Siohvaughn just filed a new lawsuit, on behalf of the two minor children (an 8-year-old and a 2-year-old) -- claiming Wade has engaged in "extreme and outrageous conduct" with his new GF Gabrielle Union in front of Wade's two children.

But Wade tells TMZ, "I am shocked that Siohvaughn Wade has brought this baseless and meritless lawsuit in the name of our children against Gabrielle Union."

Wade adds, "I am deeply saddened and disappointed that Siohvaughn has used our sons once again as pawns and is now lashing out at Gabrielle, who is an innocent party. It is clear that this is a desperate attempt to retaliate against me for seeking sole custody of our children and requesting that the court have her undergo a psychiatric examination."

Wade concludes, "My primary concern is my children and actions such as this only inflame the situation and are harmful to their well being.”

UPDATE: TMZ just spoke with a rep for Gabrielle Union who also rejects Siohvaughn's claims -- and apologizes to the court system for having to deal "with erroneous claims when there are real victims who should be receiving the legal attention they need."

Seagal Witness: Steven Never Touched Accuser

Published | Updated

Ray Charles' granddaughter is under attack from the legendary singer's former band member -- a man who claims he can prove Blair Robinson never had an inappropriate encounter with Steven Seagal.

TMZ spoke with Damien Ross -- a longtime friend of Ray's who claims he set up a meeting between Blair and Seagal at a Memphis hotel back in 2004, so Seagal could interview her for a personal assistant position.

As we previously reported, Blair signed a sworn declaration in support of Kayden Nguyen's lawsuit against Seagal -- in which Blair claims Seagal followed her to her hotel room and expected "sexual favors." Blair claims she told her mom about the encounter and left the next day.

But Ross claims Blair never had a hotel room where Seagal was staying -- and insists he was present with Blair during her entire 10-15 minute encounter with the actor. Ross also claims Blair and Seagal were never alone.

Seagal's lawyer, Marty Singer, tells TMZ, "Ms. Robinson was never employed by Steven Seagal and never received any compensation from any entity even though she claimed to have worked more than six years ago for my client."

Paula Deen: You Defamed Me, And I'm Rich

Published | Updated

Paula Deen's good name has been slandered, and she's filthy rich -- this is what TMZ has learned from a lawsuit filed by Paula Deen Enterprises.

It seems the Food Network star made a deal with Celebrity Chefs Tour to do cooking demonstrations before live audiences in various cities. Short story: Paula's company claims the $150,000 advance she was supposed to get bounced, and after waiting for full payment she walked away, claiming Celeb Chefs Tour breached the agreement.

Paula claims Celeb Chefs Tour defamed her by making it seem she bailed for no good reason.

But here's what's interesting: Aside from the $150,000 advance, Paula's deal would have guaranteed her $130,000 for each event which featured her in two culinary performances.

She wants more than a million bucks for the hassle.

Michael Jackson Estate Inks Record, Record Deal

Published | Updated

TMZ has confirmed the Michael Jackson estate has signed the biggest deal ever in music -- worth up to $250 million with a guarantee of $200 million.

The estate made the deal with Sony Music Entertainment -- the contract is for 10 projects over seven years.

One album will debut in November, which contains never-before released recordings. We're told Jackson left enough material for at least three albums of fresh material.

A source tells TMZ the royalty rate on foreign sales is the key to the deal -- and 2/3 of the sales of MJ records traditionally have been outside the U.S.

And we're told Sony gets a two-year extension for the right to distribute the Michael Jackson catalog -- to 2017.

The deal has nothing to do with The Beatles' catalog -- it's all about MJ original recordings.

The agreement was brokered by John Branca and John McClain, executors of the MJ estate.

Sean Penn Close Encounter At Academy Awards

Published | Updated

There are reports swirling that Sean Penn had a confrontation last night with "The Hurt Locker" producer Greg Shapiro -- who happens to be the current BF of Sean's estranged ex Robin Wright. We've been making calls and here's what we know ...

First, reports that Sean was kicked out of the Governors Ball are not true because Sean was never there in the first place -- by his own choice. We've also confirmed Sean was not banned from the ball.

But Sean and Greg were in the same room with each other at one point in the night -- as reported by E!'s Marc Malkin -- and it was all because of Sandra Bullock.

After Sean presented the Best Actress award to Sandra, both presenter and winner are supposed to go to an elevator which takes them near the press room. We're told Sandra lingered around backstage for a little while -- so Sean went to the elevator by himself.

After Sean emerged from the elevator and was waiting around for Sandra, a group of people from "The Hurt Locker" came up in the elevator right after the Best Picture announcement -- Greg Shapiro was in that group.

We're told Sean was nearby when Greg got off the elevator -- but we spoke to several people who say there was no fight. One insider tells us, "I didn't see it happen ... something could've happened, but if it did, it was minor and only lasted a second."
