UPDATE

7:21 AM PT -- 3/12 -- Cristiano Ronaldo has been quarantined as a result of Rugani's positive coronavirus test ... just a few days after the players were spotted huddling together for a pic.

International soccer star Daniele Rugani -- who plays alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus -- has tested positive for coronavirus ... the team announced Wednesday.

The team says the 25-year-old Italian is currently asymptomatic ... but he's been quarantined along with all the people he has had contact with in recent weeks.

Rugani is a rising star in the sport ... and has played for Juventus since 2013.

The coronavirus has spread like wildfire throughout Italy ... with reportedly more than 600 deaths and 10,000 known cases.

Juventus has been one of the many football clubs playing without fans in the past weeks ... and most recently played Inter Milan on March 8th. Rugani posted a celebratory pic after his squad won the match.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

As we previously reported ... the coronavirus has caused all major American sports leagues to limit the media's access to players -- banning them from locker-rooms and clubhouses.

The NCAA tournament and several Golden State Warriors games will be played without fans in the stands.

FEELIN' FINE
Video: Cycling Star Fernando Gaviria Says He's 'Fine' Despite Coronavirus Diagnosis

Cycling star Fernando Gaviria is giving hope to those infected by the coronavirus ... he posted a video Thursday insisting he's "fine" despite his diagnosis last month.

The 25-year-old Colombian revealed he was one of several who had contracted COVID-19 during February's 2020 UAE Tour race in the United Arab Emirates.

0312 Gaviria At UAE Tour instagram

Gaviria confirmed he has been in the hospital and quarantined while battling the virus ... but said in Spanish on Thursday he's all good.

"Hello everyone, there are many rumors circulating in regard to my state of health, but I'm fine," Gaviria said. "I've been here, undergoing regular tests, which have returned positive for the coronavirus, but I'm feeling fine."

Gaviria added, "Thank you to my team and to everyone at the hospital who looked after me to perfection. I'm here to avoid infecting other people, and to avoid this continuing to spread in the way it currently is."

"This is to assure everyone that everything is going well, and let's hope it's all resolved soon."

Gaviria is one of many professional athletes who have revealed a positive diagnosis this week ... with the most notable one, NBA star Rudy Gobert, getting the confirmation Wednesday.

Sports leagues all over the globe have announced cancellations and postponements of tournaments and games over fears of the virus ... with the NBA famously suspending its season indefinitely.

UPDATE

11:02 AM PT -- Duke University has just suspended ALL athletics -- including basketball -- which means the Blue Devils will not be participating in the tournament even if it happens.

UPDATE

9:15 AM PT -- The Pac-12 and MAC tournaments have also been canceled, while the Big East tournament is still underway.

UPDATE

8:50 AM PT -- The AAC, SEC and Big Ten conference tournaments have all been canceled ... which isn't a good sign for the NCAA tourney.

"I think we're gonna have to shut down March Madness until we know more."

That's Charles Barkley saying -- in no uncertain terms -- the powers that be need to CANCEL the most famous basketball tournament in the world over the threat of coronavirus.

Sir Chuck called in to ESPN's "Get Up!" and made his case for cancellation -- despite the fact Barkley works for the companies who broadcast the tournament.

"I think we're going to have to shut down March Madness until we know more." —Charles Barkley pic.twitter.com/hfogDJlYNl

— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) March 12, 2020 @GetUpESPN

"I'm gonna say this and I'm probably gonna get in trouble because I work for Turner and March Madness and CBS ... Turner Sports and CBS need to close down March Madness, man."

Barkley explained ... "Even if there's no fans in the stadium, you can't have these players breathing on each other for 2 weeks, even if they stay at a hotel, they're going to be at different cities around the country."

"I hate to say it and I probably shouldn't say it because I work for CBS, but I think we're gonna have to shut down March Madness until we know more."

Barkley says he knows the players DO want to push forward and play, but Charles says it's bigger than that.

"I know these kids want to play. Think about it, these kids are sweating, breathing, leaning on each other ... that's crazy! Even if you lose, you go back home, you don't know if you've got the virus for a week or two."

So far, the NCAA has NOT canceled the tournament -- they've banned fans from attending games. But, the situation is fluid and can change at any moment ... especially after the NBA made the decision to suspend the regular season for the time being.

UPDATE

6:36 AM PT -- Hoiberg just issued a statement defending his decision to coach, despite being so ill. He claims he was cleared by a medical professional before the game.

UPDATE

"Please let it be known that I would never do anything that would put my team, family or anyone else in harm's way," Hoiberg says.

UPDATE

"I was feeling under the weather on Wednesday and we felt the right thing to do was to get checked by a tournament doctor prior to our game in the Big Ten Tournament against Indiana. Once that medical official cleared me, I made a decision to coach my team. I would like to thank event staff for their care and professionalism. Also you to everyone who has reached out for your support."

UPDATE

"This is a scary time for all of us. Let's offer our thoughts and prayers directly to those affected with Coronavirus."

Fred Hoiberg does NOT have coronavirus ... Nebraska announced all he's got is a bad cold -- which is great news, considering the head coach looked awful on the team's bench Wednesday.

The scene was scary as hell at the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis ... Hoiberg was clearly ill on the sideline of the Huskers' game against Indiana.

Fred Hoiberg who is coaching the game while fighting an illness just left the court with several minutes remaining in the game. Hope he’s ok. pic.twitter.com/hBwjl9dQ31

— Chris Hassel (@Hassel_Chris) March 12, 2020 @Hassel_Chris

He was rubbing his forehead and looked to be in a pretty good amount of pain ... and with the hysteria caused by NBA star Rudy Gobert's positive coronavirus test earlier in the evening, Hoiberg was rushed to the hospital.

But, he and the Huskers got great news late Wednesday night ... with officials saying he tested negative for COVID-19.

"Hoiberg was diagnosed with influenza A (common cold)," the Huskers said in a statement. "He has since been released and has returned to the team hotel."

It's a huge sigh of relief for Nebraska ... its players were actually quarantined at the arena over fears Hoiberg had the dangerous virus.

Of course, it's unclear if there will be a season to return to for Hoiberg and the Huskers when they feel better ... the NBA has suspended its season and there's talk the NCAA could follow suit.

For now, NCAA president Mark Emmert says the plan is for March Madness to be played in fan-less arenas.

UPDATE

9:25 PM PT -- 5 teams have been told to self-quarantine after playing against Gobert's Jazz within the past 10 days -- the Cleveland Cavaliers, NY Knicks, Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors ... according to Brian Windhorst.

The NBA has just announced it's putting its season on hold ... this just minutes after one of its star players tested positive for coronavirus.

The league said in a statement Wednesday ... Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert had contracted COVID-19 -- and in response, it's pausing its season following the conclusion of Wednesday's slate of games.

"The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic," the league said.

The league had reportedly considered making the move earlier Wednesday ... debating whether to suspend the season or play its games without fans. Ultimately, no decision had been made prior to the tip-off of Wednesday's games.

The Golden State Warriors were set to play their game against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday in a fan-less arena. However, that game will now take place at a later date.

As for how the league is handling the Jazz and Thunder after it was announced Gobert had the virus ... ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski says players from both sides are being quarantined at Oklahoma City's arena.

ESPN had a camera on Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban when he found out about the cancellation -- and it's obvious he was completely shocked by the news.

UPDATE

6:24 AM PT -- 3/12 -- Joel just announced this weekend's services are canceled, saying, "Lakewood's leadership has decided not to hold public services this weekend. Instead, Lakewood will broadcast its services exclusively online ... we will continue to monitor the situation week by week and hope to resume the assembly in the very near future."

UPDATE

The statement continues, " ... we feel that this move is necessary to ensure the well being of all of the citizens of this great city, especially the most vulnerable among us."

Joel Osteen's megachurch services will power through the coronavirus crisis -- which has officially been classified a pandemic -- meaning close to 50,000 people will gather to worship with him this weekend.

Sources close to Osteen and his Lakewood Church in Houston tell TMZ ... its 3 scheduled upcoming services -- one Saturday night and 2 Sunday -- are still on, with expected crowds of 16,000 at each service.

We're told the staff is taking recommended precautions, such as sanitizing surfaces and bathrooms and leaving doors propped open so guests don't have to touch them.

On top of that, our sources say church members and all potential attendees are being advised to stay home if they don't feel well, have traveled to areas affected by COVID-19 or been in contact with anyone who has.

We're told Lakewood's plans could change with the developing news, but as of right now ... it's church business as usual for Osteen and his congregation.

Joel's also set to hold a service in Jackson, Mississippi Friday for roughly 7,500.

As for Osteen's "America's Night of Hope" event at Yankee Stadium in May -- which, as we first reported, will feature Kanye West -- there are no plans to cancel or postpone that either.

However, our sources reiterate ... things could change with those plans too.

Buffet-goers in Vegas are outta luck because of coronavirus, but family-style feasters everywhere else in the good ol' U.S. of A. can still get their fix ... for now anyway.

Four of the biggest buffet restaurant chains in the country tell TMZ they have no plans to close up shop amid what is now a global pandemic -- but they're not blind to the concerns about COVID-19. Meaning, they're taking new precautions.

For instance, Golden Corral says it's installed multiple new hand sanitizer stations in most, if not all, of its 500 locations -- and workers are now on a different kinda clock.

A rep tells us GC employees have been instructed to wash their hands a minimum of every 20 minutes, or between tasks. They're also wiping down all guest touchpoint areas every half hour.

The ever-familiar HomeTown, Old Country and Ryan's buffet chains are also following that spic-and-span approach. A rep for Ovation Brands -- which owns and operates all 3 -- says they're going hog wild on the cleaning and sanitizing as well.

Interestingly, Ovation says the reason it's not panicking just yet is because most of their customers are homegrown in the U.S., and not from overseas. That theory seems flawed, though, since there's no telling where those customers have traveled recently.

We're told if things change over the next few weeks -- and it seems obvious they will -- Ovation says it'll reevaluate.

Right now, though ... come and get it, folks!

As coronavirus fears skyrocket and the stock market plummets ... Soulja Boy's making a whole lot of money off a pretty clean gamble.

Sources close to the rapper-turned-entrepreneur tell TMZ ... he's invested in a company called The Soap Shop -- which, of course, sells soap products and the like. We're told Soulja went in on a franchise location in Mississippi last year with his manager, CEO Miami Mike.

Our sources say Soulja's trying to diversify and heard it was a good investment opportunity. What he didn't know is how well-timed it was.

As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has people frantically looking for soaps, disinfectant products and anything that'll kill germs. That all adds up to a massive profit for Soulja and co.

Our sources say TSS as a corporation has gone from selling 100 bottles of cleaning products per month to well over 3,000-plus cleaning products in the last 2 months. That's about a 3,000 percent increase, and we're told it's record-setting production.

Soulja and Mike's specific Soap Shop location -- in South Haven, MS -- is seeing similar results. Our sources say profits have tripled without changing anything.

One last thing, the soap venture actually benefits the youth. Soulja has linked his Soap Shop location to a charity called Bubbles for Cash.

Basically, kids sell his soap products via fundraising, and most of that money goes right back into the community to fund programs and services for those same youngsters. Win-win!!!

7:24 PM PT -- Rudy Gobert -- who has tested positive for the Coronavirus -- was NEVER at the arena Tuesday night, according to ESPN's Royce Young. Both teams are reportedly quarantined in the locker-rooms being tested for COVID-19.

The OKC Thunder vs. Utah Jazz game has been officially postponed after the match-up was allegedly delayed over Rudy Gobert's illness ... and the scene is straight-up bizarre.

The players were seconds from tip-off at Chesapeake Energy Arena in OKC on Wednesday ... when the refs quickly sent everyone back to their locker-rooms.

The fans were left waiting for an explanation for the delay -- the Thunder broadcast claimed it was due to Gobert's health status and the officials were waiting for the go-ahead to play.

But, that didn't happen ... as the PA announcer officially told the fans to head home "due to unforeseen circumstances" ... adding "we are all safe."

The fans were audibly upset ... booing at the announcement.

The NBA has been working like crazy to keep its players safe during the Coronavirus scare ... even banning the media from the locker-rooms and creating barriers for practice interviews.

It's worth noting -- Gobert (who was listed as questionable due to illness for Wednesday's game) completely disregarded the league's set-up and touched every reporter's recorders at practice just 2 days ago.

5:44 PM PT -- Diddy tells TMZ ... “We want to make sure everyone is safe during these times, so we had to make the decision to cancel the in person casting events."

UPDATE

He adds ... "But at the same time, I want to provide opportunity to everyone to audition from their homes. So I’ve put together a team of A&Rs that will be checking #MTBcasting on all social platforms 24/7 to find gems. Everyone be safe!”

The "Making the Band" reboot is gonna be delayed in its search for new talent because upcoming auditions have been called off due to coronavirus.

Sources close to production tell TMZ ... the final 2 open casting calls -- Friday in Charlotte and March 21 in NYC -- have been canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Those would have been the last in-person auditions.

Even more of a bummer -- DaBaby was set to help out at the Charlotte casting call ... and Diddy was going to be at the NYC auditions at MTV Studios. Not anymore.

MTV tells us ... “As a precautionary measure to ensure the health of our production crew, talent and aspiring artists, all public auditions for MTV’s “Making the Band” in Charlotte, NC on March 13-14 and New York City on March 21-22 have been canceled. Safety remains our utmost priority, and we’re continuing to defer to health officials and the CDC for guidance."

The good news ... 'MTB' hopefuls can still submit their auditions online as they have been, they just won't get that up-close-and-personal touch.

We broke the story ... Diddy recruited some big names -- Quavo, Monica and 112 -- to help him recruit potential big names of the future at the open casting call last month in Atlanta.

There were also in-person auditions held last week in Houston, but with the coronavirus fears intensifying -- it looks like that will be the last one.

"Riverdale" is shutting down because someone on the production has a very real concern about coronavirus exposure.

A rep for Warner Bros., which produces the CW show, tells TMZ ... it recently was made aware that a team member from the show recently came in contact with a person -- not on the production -- who tested positive for the coronavirus.

We're told that team member is receiving medical evaluation and out of an abundance of caution, production is currently being suspended. The rep adds, "We are working closely with the appropriate authorities and health agencies in Vancouver (where they shoot) to identify and contact all individuals who may have come into direct contact with our team member."

The news comes shortly after a slew of organizations took extraordinary caution to stem the rapidly-spreading disease. As we reported, the NCAA announced it will ban fans from the tournament.

Similarly, the Golden State Warriors will play their home games without fans for the next 2 weeks.

Jeremy Lin is sick and tired of the racism and xenophobia directed at Asian people over the coronavirus pandemic ... and now he's taking action to combat the hate.

The ex-NBA star -- who currently plays for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association -- just donated $150,000 "towards fighting this virus."

Lin also spelled out on social media why he's upset over "news headlines of racism, xenophobia, attacks on Asians and decaying trust towards people" ... adding, "All heartbreaking and the opposite of God's kingdom."

"But for every fear-inducing headline, I see hope. I see doctors and nurses fighting the front lines in China, Korea, Japan, Iran, Italy and more. I see people helping people in countries regardless of race or background. Talk less out of hate, more out of empathy."

Lin pointed out several inspiring examples of bravery and hope:

-- "Lets talk about the man who made 16,000 meals for frontline workers."

-- "Lets appreciate the doctor who postponed his wedding and then tragically lost his life fighting the virus. He's a hero."

-- "Lets be inspired and demand justice for Meera Solanki who defended her Asian friend against an aggressive man in Birmingham only to be knocked unconscious."

-- "Lets follow suit and take action like Inner Mongolia who sent 2500 tons of potatoes to Wuhan."

On top of his $150k donation, Lin's basketball foundation in China has also donated roughly $150k to get medical equipment to Wuhan, the Chinese city at the center of the crisis.

Lin ended with some good advice ... "Let's all do our part to quarantine, wash our hands vigorously, wear a protective mask to avoid germs spreading and do our part to share facts and preventative measures. Stay together, fight on!"

Truth.

Dr. Phil says folks who constantly fear getting sick are probably more at risk to contract coronavirus than the average Joe ... but not because of the virus itself.

The good doc came on "TMZ Live" Wednesday to talk about what's now a global pandemic and its effect on hypochondria. First off, he dropped some knowledge ... it's now called illness anxiety disorder, and he says people suffering from it are in "their perfect storm."

Phil says the wall-to-wall media coverage of coronavirus not only affirms their worst fears, it actually exacerbates the problem. Watch the clip ... he explains why their immune systems could be compromised by the panic.

Howie Mandel -- who's not a hypochondriac, but famously a germophobe -- showed up for 'AGT' Tuesday looking like most folks with illness anxiety disorder probably feel right about now.

Even more bad news ... Dr. Phil says it's near impossible now to convince them things aren't as bad as they seem.

Yeah, we could all use a big ol' dose o' Hakuna Matata right about now.
