Ruby Bridges Civil Rights Icon's Mother Dead at 86

Lucille Bridges, who made a historic walk with her 6-year-old daughter, Ruby Bridges, in 1960 -- into a segregated New Orleans public school -- has died.
Ruby announced her mother's passing Tuesday night ... calling her a hero and "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement." Lucille's cause of death is unknown but Ruby paid a touching tribute to her saying, "Today our country lost a hero. Brave, progressive, a champion for change. She helped alter the course of so many lives by setting me out on my path as a six year old little girl."
Lucille -- who gave birth to Ruby the same year as the landmark decision of Brown vs. Board of Education to end racial segregation in schools -- is memorialized alongside Ruby in Norman Rockwell's famous painting, "The Problem We All Live With" ... which shows Ruby carrying her school supplies as U.S. Marshals escort her.
When the NCAAP requested Ruby attend the all-white William Frantz Elementary School as a first-grader in 1960 ... Ruby's father, Abon Bridges, was reluctant. But, according to the National Women's History Museum, it was Lucille who insisted because she wanted Ruby to have the education she herself missed out on. Lucille walked Ruby to school every day amid hateful and racist rhetoric spewed in their direction.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said, "Lucille's strength was unbounded during this period. Lucille insisted, seeing the action as an opportunity to help all Black children, and walked Ruby, with federal marshals, past chanting and taunting white protesters and to the schoolhouse. Mother and daughter both revealed their character and courage."
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
Rockwell's painting came back into the spotlight during the run-up of the presidential election ... with an adapted version showing now Vice President-elect Kamala Harris walking with Ruby's shadow cast on a white wall. The painting's been dubbed "That Little Girl Was Me."
Ruby wholeheartedly approved the image saying, "I am Honored to be a part of this path and Grateful to stand alongside you, Together with Our fellow Americans, as we step into this Next Chapter of American History!"
Lucille had 5 children. Her husband died in 1978.
She was 86.

Murder Hornets Nearly 200 Queens Found in Nest!!!
'Memba those murder hornets, and their TWO queens found in a Washington State nest? Turns out that was just the tip of the hive ... because there could be a lot more queens out there.
The WA State Department of Agriculture now says the nest they recently eradicated near had A LOT more queen hornets inside than they originally thought ... closer to 200 rather than just a measly 2. Big difference!!!
You'll recall that after an initial sweep in late October, the team went out there again when they realized they were short a female hornet ... which they believed might still be inside. They chopped down the tree in question and ended up finding two ladies in the nest -- one new and one old, they say -- plus a crap ton of larvae in different stages of development.
Welp, the WSDA now says there were actually up to 500 live specimens in the trunk -- 76 were fully developed virgin queens, 190 larvae, 108 pupae (next after larvae, almost all of which were queens) ... AND 112 worker hornets. That was the haul from this one job.
One WSDA official is quoted as saying the team got there "just in the nick of time" -- and, yeah, you can say that again. But, it leaves a major terrifying question ... how many other queens (or queens in development) might still be buzzing around, and how far did they travel???
The scientists there aren't oblivious to that -- they say they do believe there might be more nests in the area, but aren't sure where just yet. They also say they're going to scour that area for at least 3 more years to make sure the hornets are fully wiped out.
Let's hope the murder hornet containment efforts go better than the ones for coronavirus did. Just sayin' ...

NBC's Ken Dilanian is the latest victim of the dreaded hot mic ... unwittingly unleashing a stream of curse words on live TV, but he's got an explanation and an apology.
Here's the deal ... Ken was supposed to be doing a live hit Tuesday on MSNBC about new developments in President Trump's refusal to concede and acknowledge President-Elect Joe Biden, and he cursed as Craig Melvin introduced him.
"Oh, s***, f***," Ken exclaimed while looking down at his phone. MSNBC quickly cut away after the profanity.
Ken's already saying sorry for his on-air gaffe ... he's apologizing for using profanity and says it was a byproduct of technical difficulties. He mistakenly hung up on the control room -- hence the four-letter words -- but didn't realize his mic was still hot.
It's pretty funny, and relatable for folks working remotely during the pandemic. Keep this in mind before your next Zoom meeting.

Joe Biden beelined it Sunday from church to the gravesite of his beloved son, Beau, who, on his death bed, implored his dad not to give up on public service.
Biden and family attended services at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church in Greenville, Delaware. After church, the group walked to Beau's gravesite.
Beau, who died from brain cancer at 46 back in 2015, wanted to make sure his dad didn't retreat after his death, and although Biden decided not to run in 2016, Beau clearly inspired him during his presidential run.
After Joe's victory speech last night, Coldplay's "Sky Full of Stars" rang out at the venue. It was Beau's favorite song. As a matter of fact, when lead singer Chris Martin found out how much Beau loved that song, he sang it at Beau's funeral.
just saw that coldplay was beau biden's favorite band and that sky full of stars was one of his favorite songs and they played it after joe's victory speech... im crying. i bet he's looking down and is so proud of his dad rn pic.twitter.com/QN78TtpGRR

A group of Donald Trump supporters are up in arms about the mail-in ballot counting process in Detroit ... and they're trying like hell to disrupt it.
A frenzy's been whipped up by several Republican vote challengers at the TCF Convention Center, where workers are trying to tally thousands of absentee votes for Detroiters while having to deal with the madness.

— Salwan Georges (@salwangeorges) November 4, 2020 @salwangeorges
Cops are keeping many of the aggressive challengers at bay due to the counting area being at capacity, but that's not stopping them from banging on the windows and chanting, "STOP THE COUNT! STOP THE COUNT!"
The pro-Trump challengers are apparently claiming they are being kept out, but Democratic challengers are as well. Under the state's election rules ... each group is allowed to have 134 challenges.
As you may know ... the President and his campaign have been making baseless claims about voter fraud in multiple states that carry significant importance to the winner of the election, and clearly, it's sparked outrage among his supporters in Detroit.
For the record ... battleground Michigan has already been projected as a winner for Joe Biden.

Madison Cawthorn Move Over, AOC ... I'm the Youngest Rep. Now!!!
Madison Cawthorn is only 25 years old, but that didn't stop him from being elected to represent North Carolina's 11th Congressional District ... making him the youngest member of the House in modern U.S. history.
Cawthorn -- a staunch Republican who's anti-abortion, pro-gun and shares President Trump's views on immigrants -- defeated Democrat Moe Davis for the seat ... according to CNN's projection.
His first message to his constituents after his historic victory was a sharp jab across the aisle -- "Cry more, lib." It's the kinda football spiking that would make Trump proud.
Before Cawthorn, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's win in New York in 2018 made her the youngest female elected member in modern history at 29 years, 2 months and 22 days.
However, the new NC Rep. isn't the youngest Congressman of all time ... that title belongs to William Charles Cole Claiborne of Tennessee, elected in 1797 at age 22 despite not meeting the constitutional age requirement.
Rules. NBD in the 18th century.
BTW, if Cawthorn looks familiar, it might be because you remember him from a maskless meeting with Trump back in July shortly after the Prez said it was "patriotic" to wear a mask amid the pandemic.
So, Cawthorn will be in D.C., but we'll see if his pal, 45, joins him.

-
Breaking News

Tommy Tuberville -- the former college football coach -- is now a U.S. Senator (elect) after winning a seat in Alabama in a landslide.
The 66-year-old ran as a Republican -- and on Tuesday, he defeated Senator Doug Jones by a HUGE margin, flipping the seat back to red.
"Alabama, welcome back to the Republican U.S. Senate," Tuberville told his supporters during his victory speech.
"Tonight the liberals of California, New York and Washington D.C. learned the hard way that Alabama's Senate seat cannot be bought."
"If you allow me to quote my opponent's many campaign ads, they can all go to hell and get a job as far as I'm concerned."
Jones had won the seat in 2017 in a special election following sexual misconduct allegations against Roy Moore.
As for Tuberville, he earned Donald Trump's endorsement after defeating Jeff Sessions in the primary ... despite never previously holding public office.
"[Tuberville] will be a GREAT Senator for the incredible people of Alabama," Trump tweeted back in July ... "Doug Jones is a terrible Senator who is just a Super Liberal puppet for Schumer & Pelosi. Represents Alabama poorly."
Before turning to politics, Tuberville was a pretty successful college football coach -- going 85 and 40 in 9 seasons at Auburn (1999 to 2008).
Before that, Tuberville coached at Ole Miss from '95 to '98.
During his 21 years as a coach, Tuberville also spent time at Texas Tech and Cincinnati.
After declaring victory, Tuberville addressed his supporters:
"I promise I'm going to do everything for you and your family -- for your kids and grandkids -- so that they can have the opportunity of the American dream for years to come."
The victory speech was actually interrupted by a congratulatory phone call from Vice President Mike Pence ... and Tuberville was fired up about it.
Sen. Jones kept is classy in his speech -- saying he will help Tuberville in any way he can.

WHOOOOOPS!!!
A hockey player in Hungary tried to celebrate a goal in a big game this weekend ... by jumping into the protective glass -- and ended up barreling right through it!!
It all went down in Budapest on Sunday, when star Márkó Csollák scored a goal to make it a 1-0 game against the Titans.
The dude was so amped about the goal, he threw himself against the plexiglass barrier ... which immediately shattered into a billion pieces!!
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
The video is crazy ... the player hits his shot, then goes right to the boards, which clearly can't handle his force as he flips over the wall and out of the rink.
Bu,t don't worry, Csollák later said he was perfectly fine following the debacle ... and his team went on to win, 4-3 in overtime!!
The whole thing begs the question ... who pays for the repairs?!

5:11 PM PT -- 50 Cent, who once endorsed Trump before switching course, is even coming down on Weezy.
Fiddy says he would have never taken a photo with Trump like Wayne just did.
Lil Wayne's stuntin' with President Trump, but it's way more than a photo op -- he's also voicing his support for the Prez and his proposed plan for the Black community.
The rapper says he had a great meeting Thursday with POTUS, and shared a photo of them smiling together with thumbs up. He says he's endorsing Trump based on his track record on criminal justice reform, and he's excited about Trump's Platinum Plan.
Wayne believes it will "give the community real ownership." As we've told you ... Ice Cube worked with Trump's team on the plan, which vows to pump $500 billion into Black communities, and provide better access to equitable education and jobs.
Cube didn't endorse Trump, but caught a lot of flak nonetheless, because many critics felt he was being used due to the timing of the announcement ... about a month before the election.
Wayne's meeting, just 5 days before Election Day, might draw the same criticism. It's unclear where they met or what exactly was discussed, but Tunechi says, "He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done."
Trump's endorsement from the hip-hop star comes on the heels of Lil Pump publicly backing him as well ... though Pump's reasoning was all about his personal bottom line.
50 Cent also seemed to be in Trump's corner for a moment, but later did a 180 and denounced him.
It looks like Lil Wayne's more certain about his choice.

HUGE NEWS!!!
Long story short, UFC boss Dana White told CBS Sports' Zach Gelb that he's been in touch with Khabib recently and he believes there's a good chance the Dagestani superstar will return to the Octagon sometime soon.
"Khabib and I have been talking," Dana said ... "He was completely emotional [at UFC 254] when he got through that fight. I have a feeling that he might go for 30-0."
I have 15 minute interview with @ufc President @danawhite that will air tonight on @CBSSportsRadio at 8 PM Eastern/5 Pacific.

Dana told The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio that he and @TeamKhabib have been talking & he expects Khabib to return & go for 30-0.
WOW! pic.twitter.com/UqAM19Y1SF
When asked directly if he thinks Khabib will come back and fight again, White said -- "I do. His dad wanted him to get to 30-0, and I think he wants to honor his dads wish."
As we previously reported, Khabib defeated Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 this past weekend -- boosting his record to 29-0 -- and after the fight, Khabib announced his retirement from MMA.
Khabib's father passed away earlier this year from COVID complications -- and Khabib said he has no desire to continue fighting without his dad by his side.
They were super close. Khabib's dad had trained him since he was a child.
But, White says he may very well reconsider the retirement -- question is ... who is the opponent?
Khabib has recently said Georges St-Pierre is the only fighter that gets him excited for a fight ... and GSP seemed interested too.
So .... fingers crossed!!!!

LeBron James Producing New Documentary On 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre
-
Breaking News

Next up for LeBron James after an NBA championship? The Lakers superstar is partnering with CNN to create a documentary that he hopes will shed new light on the 1921 Tulsa race massacre.
LBJ's SpringHill Company announced this week it's in the process of making "Dreamland: The Rise and Fall of Black Wall Street" -- a project it hopes educates millions on a 100-year-old tragedy.
FYI -- in May and June 1921 ... a race war was kicked off in Tulsa, Okla. after a 19-year-old Black man was accused of assaulting a 17-year-old white woman in an elevator.
When Black men went to defend the man after some in the city wanted him lynched -- an ensuing altercation with white people ignited a massive race war.
Reportedly, mobs of white people launched an attack on Black people in the city ... murdering dozens, causing millions of dollars in property damage, and displacing hundreds from their homes.
Many historians believe the massacre has since been underreported and even covered up ... and Bron and his company's reps are now hoping to change that with their new documentary.
"We cannot move forward until we acknowledge our past and this is about honoring a prosperous, booming Black community, one of many, that was brought to an end because of hate," SpringHill’s chief content officer Jamal Henderson said.
"We are bringing this documentary together with a diverse crew, including local Tulsans, and making it our mission to uplift voices and people while creating impactful content."
Added CNN Worldwide rep Amy Entelis, "CNN Films could not be more proud to partner with The SpringHill Company for this long-overdue recognition of the tragedy of what happened in Greenwood, and to contribute to the reconciliation that comes with the acknowledgment of history."
The documentary is expected to be completed sometime in 2021.

Humans are going back to the moon for the fist time in a long time ... and this time a woman will be leaving her footprint on that giant rock in the sky.
NASA just announced a new space mission they're set to embark on over the next few years with the intent of getting boots on the lunar ground by 2024 to study water they discovered recently, and see if it's usable.
The thinking is the H20 -- now found could be a sign of life, 'cause that's technically what an organism on Earth would need to thrive. Then again, it could just be mutant space water, so that's what they're gonna check out.
NASA hasn't announced the crew members' names yet.
There's more to this trip than just agua ... NASA says not only is it going to study the water, but the new U.S. moon missions -- dubbed Artemis -- will also try to establish a long-term presence there by the end of the decade, and use it as a springboard to our neighbor ... MARS, baby!!!
BTW, if you're wondering why we haven't been back to the moon more regularly -- the last time we set foot there was in '72, during the Apollo missions -- the space agency has chalked it up to politics, support and funding, or a lack thereof. It wasn't because they couldn't do it.
In total, humans have been to the moon 6 times. Get ready to put another notch in our space belts.

Trump hit the polls early Saturday in West Palm Beach, FL, telling his supporters, "I voted for a guy named Trump."
Trump was a longtime New York voter, but he changed his residence last year to Mar-a-Lago, in Florida. He has beef with New York -- especially NYC -- because he says the Big Apple has treated him unfairly.

Trump said in-person voting was preferable to mail in, but remember -- he has voted absentee twice this year.
Tens of millions of people have already voted, with a huge number expected at the polls on November 3rd. That said, most experts think this election isn't going to be called for days after the final vote is cast.
