Earl Thomas was facing a MAJOR issue in his first days as a Baltimore Raven ... his beloved #29 jersey was already taken ... and he'd have to cough up some serious dough to get it.

That is ... until Marlon Humphrey decided to change his mind and give it away FOR FREE -- and his explanation is pretty dope.

"I initially asked Earl for money, and later that day I realized that’s not who I am," Humphrey says.

"So I texted him and said he can have it. I respect what he has done and accolades in 29. Didn’t want to alter that for a number I’ve accomplished nothing in."

MH has a point -- Thomas has been stellar in #29 ... winning a Super Bowl, making 6 Pro Bowls and being named a 1st team All-Pro 3 different times!!!

Battles over jersey numbers have gotten expensive in the past -- Clinton Portis famously offered an old Redskins teammate $40k(!!!) to get #26 in 2004 (that ended in a court battle).

Deion Sanders also bought a teammate a BMW to get his number when he joined the Cowboys.

Herschel Walker says the Steelers took a big L in their trade with the Raiders ... telling TMZ Sports Pittsburgh didn't get nearly enough in return for Antonio Brown.

"It's sad because Antonio Brown is a heck of a player. I think everybody knows that. So, I think that's going to be a loss for Pittsburgh."

If you missed it, the Steelers gave AB away over the weekend to the Raiders for just a 3rd-round pick and a 5th-round pick in next month's NFL draft.

It's interesting ... 'cause Oakland got a 1st-rounder for Amari Cooper last year from the Cowboys, while the Lions got a 3rd-rounder for Golden Tate from the Eagles.

Brown is unanimously considered to be better than those two ... which is why Walker can't understand how Pittsburgh didn't get MORE for the future Hall of Famer.

"It's strange because with a guy as talented as Antonio Brown, you assume they'll get something out of it."

David Irving -- the NFL player who quit over the league's marijuana policy -- says he's getting into the weed business ... and he's already brainstorming names for his new company.

Remember, the 25-year-old went to social media last week -- lit up a joint -- and announced he was leaving the Dallas Cowboys and retiring from pro football, despite the fact he's a pretty solid player.

So, what's next for Irving? A lot, actually.

Irving tells us he's doing everything from producing TV shows to working with FUBU ... and, of course, he's already planning to launch his own strain of marijuana.

"It's gonna be that 9-5 OG" Irving says ... referring to his jersey number on the Cowboys.

"It's been going crazy. It's been off the hook. I've had a lot of good emails. A lot of good text messages and a lot of good conversations. There's a lot of options, and a lot of ways I can go."

As for his Hollywood plans, David says he's the executive producer for a new TV show called "Behind The Money" -- hosted by FUBU co-owner J. Alexander ... which premieres on Impact Television Network in May.

Dak Prescott had the chance to prevent his pit bull from violently attacking a neighbor, according to officials ... who say they warned the QB MULTIPLE times his dogs were escaping from his house.

It's all in court docs obtained by TMZ Sports ... where officials allege they told either Dak, or residents of Dak's Frisco, Texas home ... TWICE that his dogs were getting out and running loose in the streets.

They say there's a door near the Cowboys star's garage that doesn't close properly unless it's locked ... so they told Dak he needed to fix the issue to prevent his pit bulls from escaping.

But, the QB seemingly didn't take care of the problem ... 'cause his dogs broke out of the door once again on Feb. 25, tearing into a neighbor's yard and attacking.

As we previously reported ... a woman claims she lost part of her finger when she tried to pry Prescott's dogs off of hers ... telling 911 operators she believed her dog was "probably" injured in the attack as well.

Now, Dak's dog, Icon, is facing a "dangerous dog" hearing ... where if he's found to be dangerous, he could be put down.

The hearing is set for March 20 at 8 AM PT.

Dallas Cowboys star David Irving says he will NOT reverse course on his decision to quit the NFL over their policy on marijuana ... and he's got a message for Jerry Jones in case they never speak again.

The 25-year-old defensive tackle famously lit up a joint and announced his sudden retirement from the NFL during an Instagram Live session on Thursday night. Shocking, considering he could've made MILLIONS continuing his career in the league.

But, Irving tells us he's 100% done playing pro football -- and now he's moving on to the next phase of his life.

"No regrets whatsoever," Irving says ... "I know what I wanted to do. I've had plenty of time to think about it."

Irving says he's heard the critics who have called him stupid -- and worse -- for closing the book on such a lucrative profession ... but he doesn't care.

"I'm living my life. They can do whatever the hell they want to do in their life."

Irving tells TMZ Sports he consulted with his father -- a military veteran -- before making his decision. David feels strongly he should be able to medicate using marijuana instead of opioids, which he considers addictive and dangerous.

"I'm outta there. I'm not doing this sh*t no more."

That's seriously how Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving announced his NFL retirement Thursday night ... going on Instagram Live to tee off on the NFL's drug policy and quit his job.

The 25-year-old was suspended indefinitely last week after reportedly violating the league's drug policy again ... and now he's letting everyone know he's taking the punishment by smoking weed.

"Basically guys, I quit," Irving said. "They wanna talk about a suspension and all this other nonsense. I'm outta there. I'm not doing this sh*t no more."

Irving has dealt with several injuries during his short career, including a severe concussion that he claims led to a car accident in 2017. Instead of using marijuana to get better, Irving says he was forced to take Rx pills in order to stay within the policy guidelines.

"We got this opioid thing going on ... I'm prescribed all that bullsh*t. I just think it's bullsh*t that we have to deal with that policy."

"Everyone thinks it's about smoking weed. It's not about smoking weed. It's much bigger than that."

Irving also takes issue with how the league has handled Colin Kaepernick ... as well as his old teammate, Randy Gregory, who has also been suspended several times in just a few years.

Irving wants to make it clear that he still has a passion for the game ... but he refuses to continue to "put up with the bullsh*t."

"I love football ... I mean, sh*t, it shaped me. I wouldn't be here without it. However, I don't love the NFL. The NFL is not football."

Dak Prescott's pit bull is possibly facing the death penalty after attacking a neighbor in Frisco, Texas last week ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Prescott's dog, Icon, was quarantined last Monday after it escaped from the Dallas Cowboys QB's home and attacked a woman who was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Icon was supposed to be held in quarantine for 10 days -- which means it was scheduled to be released today -- but there's been a change of plans due to the seriousness of the incident.

Law enforcement tells us ... the case has been referred to the City of Frisco Municipal Court for a hearing to determine if the dog will be, or should be classified as a "dangerous dog."

If found to be dangerous, we're told there are multiple options on how to deal with it -- one of the options is euthanasia.

One official tells us the goal is to work with all parties for an amicable resolution -- but putting the dog to sleep is a real possibility. Another option could be removing the dog from city limits.

Cowboys star David Irving -- who was just hit with ANOTHER suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy -- says it's "bullsh*t" the NFL won't let him smoke weed.

25-year-old Irving was a stud for Dallas the last four seasons when he was actually on the field ... logging 12.5 sacks in just 10 starts -- but, the dude just couldn't stay out of trouble.

He was suspended for 4 games to start BOTH the 2017 and 2018 seasons ... and just last week, the league announced he's been banned once again.

Now, the guy is speaking out on social media ... saying the NFL is a bunch of hypocrites -- and seems to be threatening to sit out of the league until it makes weed legal.

"Once they do that, give me a call," Irving said ... "Cuz it's bullshit how I have Xanax bars n hydros right next to me to take, given to me by the NFL of course. However, we can't smoke the same weed the staff itself smokes."

This ain't the first time the embattled pass rusher has been vocal about the NFL's drug policy ... he's been in the comments of social media blasting trolls over his suspensions for years.

In fact, in one rant just a few months ago ... Irving claimed, "every game you've seen me play in, I was medicated."

David is still technically a Cowboy ... but his contract with the team expires at the beginning of the NFL's free agency next week.

Randy Gregory's week ain't gettin' any better ... 'cause the Cowboys star is now facing eviction after allegedly failing to pay almost $15,000 in rent and utilities.

26-year-old Gregory had been living in a nice 3-bedroom home in Frisco, Texas since August 2018 -- but according to a letter sent to the NFL player and his attorney on Feb. 5, he fell behind in payments to the tune of $13,674.

Sources involved in the situation tell us that number has now inflated to nearly $15,000.

The letter, obtained by TMZ Sports, demands Gregory either pay the money he owes or "vacate the premises within one day."

According to our sources, Gregory has still not forked over the cash ... and he's still living in the home.

The home is pretty nice -- 3,500 square feet, 3.5 bathrooms, with a bar, game room and a nice outdoor BBQ area. It's also located about 1 mile from the Cowboys practice facility.

We're told Randy had signed a 1-year rental agreement in August -- but stopped paying the $4,500/month rent back in December.

Gregory's made some money ... he signed a 4-year, $3.8 million deal after being drafted by the Cowboys with the 60th pick in the 2nd round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

But, his time in the NFL has been plagued with drama and failed drug tests (reportedly 7 or more) -- with the most recent coming to light this week -- prompting the league to indefinitely suspend the talented defensive end.

Probably not ... but the ex-Cowboys TE joked during a workout Thursday that he MIGHT be -- and the clip is funny as hell.

Of course, Jason Witten just ACTUALLY came out of retirement to join back up with the Cowboys -- inking a 1-year deal to leave the "Monday Night Football" booth for the gridiron.

So, while Martellus was crushing a back workout in the gym ... he decided to have some fun for the camera -- joking about a return to Dallas too!

"The Cowboys need a backup tight end?! Let's go! Let's get the band back together, Wit! Let's come out of retirement together!!"

What makes the clip even funnier is the fact that Martellus has said numerous times he HATED Witten and his time in Dallas.

But, Bennett even addressed that in the vid, saying, "I'm older! I understand now! Let's get it together!"

The pleas to join back up with ex-teammates in the NFL didn't stop there ... Marty put the camera in selfie mode after the workout and even made a pitch to Bill Belichick and the Patriots!!

It seems it's all fun and games -- Bennett clearly appears to be enjoying retirement ... but he did used to be a legit weapon in the league.

Martellus caught 433 passes for 4,573 yards and 30 TDs in his career ... and he also won Super Bowl LI with the Pats in 2017.

More trouble for Cowboys star Randy Gregory ... the defensive lineman has been suspended indefinitely after violating the league's substance abuse policy, the team announced Tuesday.

Gregory -- who has been punished multiple times since he was drafted in 2015 -- was conditionally reinstated back into the league last July after a year-long suspension.

But, the Cowboys say Gregory violated the terms of his reinstatement ... and the league has kicked him to the curb yet again.

Gregory's drug issues started even before he was drafted by the Cowboys ... he was popped for marijuana at the 2015 Scouting Combine.

RG was considered a 1st-round talent, but fell to the end of the 2nd round -- the 60th pick.

Gregory failed 2 drug tests in 2016 -- resulting in 4-game and 10-game suspensions respectively -- and later sought treatment at a facility.

After missing a scheduled drug test, Gregory was suspended for the playoffs in 2017 and the entire following season.

Dak Prescott's pit bull is being held by authorities in Frisco, Texas -- after it escaped the QB's home and bit a neighbor, cops confirmed.

According to the Frisco Police Dept., officials received a call from a neighbor on Monday around 10:51 AM to report a loose pit bull fighting with another dog through a fence.

The neighbor claims she tried to intervene and break up the fight -- but Dak's dog snapped at her -- causing enough damage that she was transported to a local hospital.

Officials say the woman's injuries are not life-threatening.

Cops determined the pit bull -- along with another dog that got on the neighbor's property -- belonged to the Dallas Cowboys QB ... and had escaped his house while he wasn't home.

Investigators determined the dogs got out through an unsecured door.

Here's where things get serious for Dak -- cops called Frisco Animal Services which captured the animal and brought it to a nearby animal shelter where it will remain in quarantine for 10 days.

Cops say the incident is being classified as a Class C misdemeanor -- punishable by a $500 fine.

But, we've seen a ton of cases like this before where the victim follows up with a civil lawsuit -- just look at the Blake Griffin situation in Los Angeles.

Ex-Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle adamantly denied rape allegations in court Tuesday ... saying he didn't commit a crime because, "she never said no."

The former NFL player was arrested last September in Sedgwick County, Kansas for allegedly raping a woman for hours ... and was later hit with 11 charges including rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.

He appeared in court Tuesday to face the charges ... and told a judge he was innocent, saying, "She didn’t tell me. She never said nothing. She never said no. So how am I supposed to know?”

The alleged victim said otherwise ... testifying that Randle had gotten drunk, punched her in the face and forced her to have sex with him.

The woman claims she was able to escape ... and half-nakedly ran to her neighbor's home to call 911.

A Wichita Police officer testified in court Randle reeked of booze when he showed up to the scene.

Randle adamantly denied everything ... yelling at the judge multiple times -- which caused the judge to fire back at the ex-RB for speaking out of turn.

Randle did not enter a plea -- the arraignment portion of his hearing has been postponed to a date later this month.

His defense attorneys argue the 27-year-old -- who's been in and out of jail and mental health facilities for months -- isn't mentally competent to stand trial at this time.

The judge said he didn't agree ... but acknowledged Randle's mental health issues could be brought up in the case at a later date.

More car trouble for NFL wide receiver Terrance Williams -- this time, the repo man grabbed his flashy Dodge Hellcat ... and the pics are sad.

The Dallas Cowboys player bragged about his 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat years ago ... after he pimped it out with a custom purple and lime green, Joker-style paint job.

But, apparently, the 29-year-old had some issues when it came to making payments -- because the repo man came calling this week in Texas ... and hooked it up to a tow truck.

Interesting, considering Williams has reportedly made close to $13 MILLION during his 6-year NFL career.

We reached out to Terrance's camp for comment -- so far, no word back.

It's not the first time Williams has had drama with a flashy whip -- dude's bright blue $200k Lambo smashed into a light pole in Texas back in May 2018.

Despite the fact cops found the key to the car in Williams' pocket -- he denied being behind the wheel at the time of the crash. He was arrested for public intoxication in that case (because cops saw him drunkenly biking to the crash scene) ... but, that charge was later dismissed.

It might just stick ... 'cause the ex-Dallas Cowboys QB-turned-superstar-broadcaster just hit the most INSANE golf shot you'll ever see an amateur hit!!!

Romo's playing in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week ... and smacked his tee shot Friday at the Par-4 15th hole into the course's hospitality tent.

Normally, players get relief -- take a drop ... and hit their shot from actual grass.

But, Romo had different ideas -- and decided to take his wedge out ... AND HIT THE SHOT FROM THE TENT'S CARPET!!!

What happened next was just absurd -- HE STUFFED THE BALL WITHIN A FOOT OF THE HOLE!!!

Jerry Jones should NOT fire Jason Garrett ... and should instead give him a fat, new contract extension -- so says Emmitt Smith, who tells TMZ Sports the Cowboys coach is great!!!

A lot of fans in Dallas seem to disagree ... JG only has 2 playoff wins in 9 seasons -- but, Emmitt is going to bat for the dude regardless.

The Cowboys legend tells us the job Garrett did bringing the Cowboys back from 3-5 to NFC East Champs this season was awesome ... and he deserves a new deal because of it.

"It takes a skill and a special guy to try to keep players motivated when everyone else is counting you out. And he did that with this team," Smith told us at the EA Sports Madden Bowl.

"Got them in the playoffs, got them to a playoff game, and, obviously, didn't finish, but he has a lot to build upon."

As for all the people clamoring for Tony Romo to take over Garrett's job ... Emmitt says he doesn't know if the ex-QB will be a slam-dunk with instant success on the sideline.
