Michael Jordan Praises Tiger Woods For Evolving Golf Past 'White Guy's Sport'
-
Breaking News

Michael Jordan says Tiger Woods is one of the most important figures in golf history -- crediting him with evolving it from a "white man's sport" into a game for everybody.
It's all part of newly released footage of a sit-down interview with Cigar Aficionado from 2017 ... when MJ was asked who's the G.O.A.T -- Tiger or Jack Nicklaus?
"Obviously Jack won more during the time he played," MJ said ... "Tiger evolved it to where it crossed a lot of different boundaries -- where it's not just a white guy's sport."
MJ says Woods paved the way for other minority golfers to get a shot on the big stage ... which led to a bigger audience and more interest in the game. In other words, Tiger made golf cool.
"Now, does that constitute him being the greatest? Does that mean he's any less than Jack -- I think [the sentiment] is unfair."
MJ noted at the time of the interview Jack had 4 more majors than Tiger (now, he has 3 since Tiger won the 2019 Masters) ... but Jordan says an apples to oranges comparison isn't really fair since they played in different eras.
"I won 6 championships, Bill Russell won 11 -- does that make Bill Russell better than me or make me better than him? No, because we played at different eras."
"So, when you try to equate who's the greatest of all time, it's an unfair parallel. It's an unfair choice. I think those are the demons that obviously Tiger had to live with and he's gonna be challenged, he's gonna be graded upon that but for me, I think they're both great. I would never say one is greater than the other."
There's more in the interview ... Jordan also reveals he smokes 6 cigars every day and tries to play 36 holes of golf almost every day!
That's so much golf!!
Jordan also opens up about his short baseball career -- and explains why his stint in the minor leagues made him a better NBA in the long run.

LeBron James To Rock Kobe Tribute During NBA Restart ... 'Let's Get It'
-
Breaking News
- 10.6K shares
LeBron James will be repping Kobe Bryant when the NBA season restarts Thursday night ... wearing a #24 finger sleeve on his left hand.
Bron has been honoring Kobe with the sleeve since Mamba passed away back in January ... but wanted his fans to know he's keeping the tribute alive in the NBA Bubble in Orlando.
"Stucc in the Grind! The Marathon Continues tonight and forever. Let’s Get It," James posted on IG with a photo of the finger sleeve.
The lyrics are a tribute to another late L.A. legend, Nipsey Hussle.
The Lakers will rebegin their season Thursday night against the L.A. Clippers -- both teams are favorites to win the NBA title.
Kobe and his daughter Gianna died on January 26th in a helicopter crash in Calabasas.
LeBron -- and really most of the NBA -- was devastated by the loss. With several high profile players getting tattoo tributes to honor the legend.
In fact, Bron and his Lakers teammate Anthony Davis got similar Kobe Bryant tattoos on their legs in the weeks following Bryant's death.
The Lakers -- and every other team in the bubble -- will play 8 "regular season" games before the playoffs begin.
At that point, the playoff tournament will run in the usual way.

Here's rapper Jack Harlow showing love for his pal, Lou Williams -- just days after accidentally exposing him in a strip club incident that rocked the NBA.
Yep, it was Harlow who posted -- and then quickly deleted -- a pic of the L.A. Clippers star at Magic City last week which landed Williams in some hot water with the league.
Remember, Williams had received permission to leave the NBA Bubble in Orlando to attend a funeral in Atlanta ... and was ordered to stay away from places with a high COVID exposure risk.
LIKE STRIP CLUBS!
Of course, Williams insists he was only at the club for 20 minutes to pick up some chicken wings -- which are apparently AMAZING -- and didn't put himself in harm's way.
The "What's Poppin" rapper TRIED to lie to cover for his friend -- initially saying the pic was a throwback -- but the truth eventually emerged.
Williams is now serving a mandatory 10-day quarantine so he can get back into the bubble.
In the meantime, Harlow is now in L.A. where he was spotted in Lou's Clippers jersey.
Soooooo .... water under the bridge?!

More great news from the NBA ... a 2nd straight week with ZERO positive COVID-19 tests from players and staffers inside the bubble.
While MLB, NFL, and other sports are scrambling to figure out how to proceed safely -- the NBA seems to have it down.
The league claims that 344 players were tested and NONE of the tests came back positive for coronavirus.
There have been some issues with the bubble -- some players have violated the rules to get things like delivery food and strip club chicken wings -- but so far, the league has been able to avoid an outbreak.
There are strict protocols in place for breaches -- mandatory quarantine periods -- and judging by the numbers, it's effective.
The NBA season is set to officially tip-off Thursday night and this is the kind of news that players, staff, executives and fans were hoping to hear!!

Tiffany Haddish Racism Makes Me Afraid to Have Kids
Tiffany Haddish is opening up about the idea of motherhood, but says one thing above all else scares her -- bringing a child into a racist world.
The actress and comedian discussed the topic on NBA star Carmelo Anthony's hit podcast, "What's in Your Glass?," saying everyone's always asking her when she's going to have some babies.
Her answer ... "There's a part of me that would like to do that, and I always make up these excuses like, 'Oh, I need a million dollars in the bank before I do that, I need this, I need that.' But really, it's like, I would hate to give birth to someone that looks like me, knowing that they're gonna be hunted or killed."
Tiffany teared up as she added ... "Why would I put someone through that?"
Carmelo -- who has a teenage son -- said, "It's scary to even think about that" ... and Haddish pointed out that white people don't have that concern.
Tiff attended and spoke at Black Lives Matter protests in L.A. last month, and says the movement's giving her some hope for the future -- but it's clear racism still has her second-guessing motherhood.

Lou Williams Admits Going To Strip Club While Away From Bubble

4:55 PM PT -- 7/25 -- Williams admitted to NBA security he visited Magic City strip club in Atlanta on Thursday night ... while he was excused from the NBA bubble to attend a family member's memorial service.
Williams claims he was at the gentleman's club for a "short time" to pick up dinner after the family member's viewing ... which is when Harlow snapped a pic with the vet.
In other words ... Harlow slipped up and tried to cover for his friend.
Williams -- who has rejoined the team in Orlando -- is now under investigation by the league to determine how long he will have to quarantine.
11:56 AM PT -- Williams just posted a tribute to a family member who passed away last week ... which perhaps explains his reason for leaving the NBA bubble.
Rapper Jack Harlow says he was NOT hanging out with Lou Williams on Thursday ... claiming he has nothing to do with the Clippers star leaving the NBA bubble.
The 33-year-old L.A. hooper reportedly left the Disney campus this week due to "excused personal reasons" ... but is expected to rejoin the team at a later date.
The whole thing seemed pretty normal -- considering several players have left the bubble for a number of reasons in the past few weeks -- until the "What's Poppin'" rapper posted an IG Story with Williams.
"A location U would never guess," Harlow captioned the pic ... tagging Williams.
Jack Harlow posted this and deleted this on his IG story yesterday 💀💀 https://t.co/ZGYt6gc5RV pic.twitter.com/8Y9NOMUJmz
— Ahmed🇸🇴/Justice for Breonna & Elijah (@big_business_) July 24, 2020 @big_business_
Harlow quickly deleted the pic ... which led people to speculate if he accidentally got the Sixth Man of the Year in trouble.
But, Harlow tried to clear the air on Friday ... saying the pic was old and he was just missing his buddy.
"That was an old pic of me and Lou. I was just reminiscing cuz I miss him," Harlow said.
What makes things even more bizarre -- Harlow deleted that tweet minutes later.
So ... what the hell is going on?? Is Harlow trying to cover his tracks, or is it all a misunderstanding??
Either way, the Clippers have lost several guys -- including key players like Montrezl Harrell and Patrick Beverley -- with the season restart quickly approaching on July 30 ... so it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Houston Rockets guard Austin Rivers has left the NBA Bubble in Orlando due to an "urgent" family matter ... but plans to rejoin the team soon, according to reports.
The 27-year-old shooting guard left Orlando Friday and expects to return "sometime this weekend," The Athletic's Shams Charania says.
Of course, Rivers will have to quarantine for 10 days before he can re-enter the bubble ... as part of the league's strict safety protocols.
As we previously reported, Rivers' teammate, Russell Westbrook, tested positive for COVID-19 before the NBA restart and quarantined before joining the team in Orlando this week.
Rivers joins Pelicans superstar rookie Zion Williamson and Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell ... who also recently left the bubble due to family matters.
Rivers -- the son of L.A.'s Clippers coach, Doc Rivers -- is averaging 8.7 points per game, shooting at 41% from the field.
No word on if coach will be leaving the bubble as well.

The Lakers made their return to the court for the first time in 135 days on Thursday ... but LeBron James had more important things to discuss afterward.
"First of all, I want to continue to shed light on justice for Breonna Taylor and to her family and everything that's going on with that situation," James told the media after a scrimmage against the Dallas Mavericks.
"We want the cops arrested who committed that crime."
James -- along with the rest of the NBA -- is pushing for social justice during the league's return to play ... especially for Taylor, who was killed by 3 Louisville police officers in her home in March.
"As one of the leaders of this league, I want her family to know, and I want the state of Kentucky to know that we feel for her and we want justice. That’s what it’s all about. What’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong."
As we previously reported, Taylor's family is well aware of the advocacy led by the NBA superstars ... and Breonna's mother told TMZ Sports she is grateful for their actions.
"Everyone raising their voices for justice are what keeps this family going each day," Tamika Palmer told us.
LeBron -- who etched ""#Justice4BreonnaT"" on his sneaker for Thursday night's scrimmage -- also weighed in on Black Lives Matter ... clarifying it's not a movement, but a lifestyle.

WNBA's Renee Montgomery Sen. Loeffler is Wrong Fans Won't Abandon League Over Black Lives Matter
-
Exclusive
Atlanta Dream star Renee Montgomery says she straight-up disagrees with her boss -- claiming Sen. Kelly Loeffler is wrong for thinking fans will turn on the league overeats support of Black Lives Matter.
FYI, Senator Loeffler (R-GA) is a co-owner of the Dream -- and made it clear she's AGAINST the league's social justice initiatives that support BLM claiming it will rub some WNBA fans the wrong way.
"I think a lot of people feel that they may not have a place," Loeffler told ESPN ... "They may feel excluded from this sport and other sports that make them feel like American values aren't at the core of what we're doing here."
Loeffler was also critical of the Black Lives Matter organization -- saying it's much different from the BLM movement, which she strongly condemns.
"The Black Lives Matter political organization advocates things like defunding and abolishing the police, abolishing our military, emptying our prisons, destroying the nuclear family. It promotes violence and antisemitism. To me, this is not what our league stands for."
Enter Montgomery ... who played 2 seasons with the Dream -- and responded to Loeffler's comments on the "TMZ Sports" TV show.
Montgomery says it's great that Loeffler is open to having a deeper 1-on-1 conversation about the issue ... but for now, they remain on opposite sides of the fence.
Long story short, Montgomery says the WNBA is embracing the BLM movement -- NOT the group -- and she's frustrated that certain people like Loeffler are trying to conflate them.
Montgomery -- an 11-year WNBA vet and 2-time WNBA champion -- also says she doesn't believe fans will leave in droves because players are fighting for social justice.
"If its gonna bother a fan that much that a player wants to promote equality -- that a player wants to promote the movement -- then maybe [those fans] shouldn’t watch it."
Montgomery adds, "[Loeffler is] saying they're gonna lose fans but I think a lot of people will be welcoming to the idea of inclusion."
Renee also wonders why Loeffler is digging in her heels so strongly to continue to be a part of a league with such different social values -.
"I don’t understand why you would want to be a part of something that has such different beliefs than you."
Montgomery recently opted out of her 3rd year with the Dream to focus on social justice issues -- but hasn't retired and could rejoin the league next year.
When asked if the rift with Loeffler would dissuade her from rejoining the Atlanta Dream -- Montgomery said it would not ... explaining how the organization as a whole has been incredibly supportive.
"I have no problem with the Dream organization at all."
Catch Renee -- our new co-host on "TMZ Sports" -- weeknights on FS1.

Kings' Richaun Holmes Chicken Wings Made Me Leave Bubble ... 'Won't Make That Mistake Again!!!'
-

Richaun Holmes is revealing the meal that made him risk it all and leave the NBA bubble ... saying he was craving some delicious chicken wings!!!
Remember, the Sacramento Kings forward/center was forced back into a 10-day quarantine in Orlando earlier this month ... after he stepped off the Disney campus to pick up a food delivery.
The 26-year-old is back with the team after doing his time ... and he's breaking down the moment he messed up and popped the bubble.
"I ordered some food, ordered some wings and went to grab the wings and I wasn't really too aware of the borders," Holmes said.
"I stepped out, grabbed the food and came back and they just let me know they want me to be as safe as possible and had to enforce the rules and I completely understand that."
"Won't make that mistake again."
Of course, the league is taking the bubble VERY seriously ... which has resulted in ZERO new positive COVID-19 tests over the past week.
Holmes says he spent the 10 days working out and doing sprints in his room ... even using a punching bag to get out his aggression.
But, the REAL question is ... were the wings worth it?!?!
"We had a little BBQ/lemon pepper mix. it was pretty solid, they were pretty solid."

6:07 AM PT -- 7/22 -- Kevin Garnett is now trying to bury the hatchet with Glen Taylor -- hoping they can end their beef so KG can buy the team.
"Regardless of past feelings with Glen, I would love nothing better than to become partners going forward in this great but massive rebuilding of a city that I deeply love," Garnett said in an IG statement.
"Putting the past to the side/focus on the now," Garnett added ... "*F*** the rest. #Bigfacts #TrueChange Let's goooo damitt."
KG also issued a second statement saying he truly loved Minneapolis and wants to help build a championship team for the city.
"No two people love the city more than myself and Glen Taylor and I look forward to trying to work with him to achieve my dream."
Will the new friendly strategy work? Stay tuned ...
The Minnesota Timberwolves are hitting the market ... and none other than NBA legend Kevin Garnett is part of an investment group gunning to buy the team.
Billionaire owner Glen Taylor -- who has owned the team since 1995 -- confirmed Tuesday he's listening to offers to sell the team ... saying he is "seriously considering" all his options, according to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski and Shams Charania.
KG -- the best T-Wolves player of all time -- is part of a group of investors who are "seriously interested" in placing a bid for the team, the report says.
Remember, Garnett absolutely HATES Taylor ... and it stems from a promise he made with the late Flip Saunders about taking a front office or ownership role with the team.
KG says the businessman broke his promise after Saunders died by bringing in Tom Thibodeau instead ... and brought up his issues with the owner back in April.
"I don’t do business with snakes," KG told Shams at the time. "I don’t do business with snake motherf***ers. I try not to do business with openly snakes or people who are snake-like."
Of course, Taylor had intended on putting KG's #21 up in the rafters at the Target Center ... which the hooper rejected until Taylor was no longer owner of the team.
Depending on who gets the team ... it may be time for that ceremony after all.

Lakers' Alex Caruso Skips Sister's Wedding ... to Stay In NBA Bubble
-
Breaking News
L.A. Lakers guard Alex Caruso -- a fan favorite -- decided to skip his sister's wedding to stay inside the NBA bubble ... all because he didn't want to let down his teammates.
Alex's older sister Megan was set to tie the knot on July 18 at an indoor venue near Austin, Texas ... with more than 100 people scheduled to attend.
Alex says he's super tight with his sister --- telling ESPN, "Megan is as close to my No. 1 fan as anyone could get."
Obviously, Alex WANTED to go to the wedding -- and explored all of his options ... including renting a private jet to travel and finding a "safe house" away from the rest of the guests to sleep after the event.
But, Caruso says he began to realize it wouldn't just be a quick trip -- since he's already inside the bubble, he would need to be re-cleared for entrance into the Walt Disney World environment in Orlando ... a process that could take up to 14 days even if he tested negative for COVID.
Caruso says he ran the idea by his Lakers bosses and teammates -- including LeBron James and Anthony Davis -- and everyone was on board with his plan to go.
But, then ... a change of heart.
Alex says the two superstars "helped me realize how important I am to what we are trying to do here" -- win a championship.
And, with teammates Avery Bradley (opted out) and Rajon Rondo (hand injury) not available for the NBA restart ... Caruso ultimately decided he was too valuable to the team.
"If I was on a team that didn't have title aspirations -- a team trying to hold on to the No. 8 seed or something -- it might have been different," Caruso said ... "But we have worked too hard."
Caruso decided to stay in the bubble -- and people at the wedding later sent him video so he could watch the event after the fact.
Probably for the best ... since Caruso says only about 75% of the guests wore masks -- and it sounds like there was high risk of exposure!
Now, Caruso and the Lakers can continue to focus on the NBA restart -- which tips off July 30.
Hope it was worth it!
